ankle soreness

Cathe,
About three years ago I turned my ankle while I was working out. Sometimes it just starts hurting again. What kindof exercises would you suggest that I do to strengthen this area?
 
I have this problem too. I'd love to hear an answer.

Just a suggestion based on what my physiotherapist told me to do after I broke my ankle and had surgery on it:
Circles with your foot (clock wise and counter clockwise)
Do the alphabet with your foot. Tracing all 26 capital letters with your foot works every muscle in your ankle. I used to do this several times a day during the first year after my cast came off.
Point and flex your foot repeatedly.
I personally increased the strength of my ankle by signing up for 10 different intramural sports in 3rd year university. This cross-training really increased the strength of my ankle, combined with the physiotherapists exercises.
The only time my "bad" ankle now acts up is if the cushioning is gone in my workout shoes...which tells me to go get a new pair.
