ankle problem-HIIT

just trying out some hiit on treadmill--not sure if this is correct--

after warming up--- 2 min-- walk/jog fast as i can, recover for 1 minute--- keep doing this for 20 minute-- then cool down.

i always have done steady state walking--- now trying to "jog"- is hurting my ankle-- any suggestions?

i like the concept of less time on the tm--- but don't want to deal with ankle issues.

If it's bothering your ankle - don't do it! It could be a number of things including you may need different shoes. Have you had an ankle problem before? Have you ever jogged before? What kind of shoes are you wearing? Also, if you're new to jogging (even if they were short intervals) you may have done too much too soon.

i wear new balance running shoes...albeit, they probably need replacing. i've never jogged before---i guess i can"wog" if that still serves the purpose of hiit...i just don't like cardio anymore--- have done it for years--- all different types--- just want something short and sweet!

I had an ankle issue towards the tail end of my marathon training--it got so bad that I was seriously doubting whether I could even do my marathon :(. I went back to the running store where I got my shoes and had them look at my form again. The only time they'd ever fitted me for shoes was 4 years ago, and I'd been using the same brand/style ever since, so I thought maybe my stride had changed over the years and I'd need a different shoe.

Sure enough, we discovered I was no longer a pronator, and the shoe I was using was "too much shoe." This was causing me to land in a weird way, causing stress to my ankle and I was developing tendonitis as a result, because of the high mileage I was putting in. They switched me to a "neutral" shoe (i.e. a shoe for people who don't pronate) and after a few weeks, I saw steady improvement. I went on vacation for 10 days following my marathon and gave my ankle a chance to rest, and I went running for the first time last Thursday--I felt great! I felt great after 5 miles on a trail run on Saturday, too.

I really do think the shoes make a ton of difference.

Of course, now I seem to have developed a hip flexor issue while on my trip, but that's a whole 'nother story and a whole 'nother thing that's gotta get checked out *sigh*.

I agree 100%. Shoes provide your feet with the proper support. If you have a specialty shoe store I'd start there. They cost more but a good shoe store will be able to reccomend a shoe for your needs. I also agree that if it hurts you should probably stop. Excersizing on an injury can just lead to more injury and longer recovery. Hope you feel better.
