I was recently married and we are going through the adjustment period.........(uck).........there seems to be tons of books on marriage and what do - anyone here read a good one on how to compromise, figure out finances, etc?? Any advice would be great or websites too! I am always looking for ways to improve our relationship and set a good ground base for our future...........

Here you go -

1) Getting ready for marriage - Jerry Hardin & Dianne Sloan (this has some Christian references in it. I am not Christian, but it didn't bother me).

2) Financial Peace - Dave Ramsey

Hope these help!

"The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands" by Dr. Laura (can't spell her last name) is a great book!

My mother gave me a copy of "Secrets of a Very Good Marriage" by Sherry Suib Cohen. It is fantastic, and I reread it every year (right around my anniversary).

thanks! I am going to the library over lunch - we are celebrating Valentines Day tonight and I am going on vacation this weekend to go skiing, so it will give me some good reads on the way down! :)

This is probably the best book you can read. The best advice you can get from the book is that the woman sets the tone for the mood of the household. If I am happy, so is everyone else so I try really hard not the be a grouch. Get this book, your husband will love you for it.

Wow, that's a lot of responsibility for the wife! Sounds like several steps backwards for women. It takes two to make a marriage work, IMHO.

I think the key to a successful relationship, marriage or otherwise, is R-E-S-P-E-C-T for each other and a total committment to making the marriage work, by both parties.

I also loved the proper care and feeding of husbands. It is a wonderful book that really helped me to be and show more love towards my husband. And boy, did he ever respond in kind!
