Amy Bento

Ouch, I felt that spank!

I still can't get over the EXACT SAME OUTFITS!! I'm curious to hear reviews as they roll in, but I guess I am a Cathe snob.I guess I'm guilty of being- meooowwwww, CATTY! (I kinda want to see this thread hit the 3 grand mark too!)

In fact I spent nearly every free moment this weekend trying to view potential advanced workouts by other instructors, but still can't bite the bullet.

Let's stop and think about this one ladies...

A new instructor is dropped into our midst by a post that's kind of odd, but intriguing. We spend 81 posts bantering back and forth over whether not Amy Bento is worth buying (myself included!), part of those posts are spent over complaining about her methods of releasing her videos... She should sell through Collage Video, offer free trials...

Um, why? I just realized that she already has the people who will do her workouts all hot and bothered by her (at this stage in her game, ANY press is good press - name recognition is key here). There's already a review - a good review - on the VF forums saying how challenging she is... For marketing a brand new instructor I think she did a pretty darn good job without spending costly advertising $$$. The people who would buy her videos (aka the Cathe crowd) certainly knows who she is! I have to say, I'm pretty impressed. If her videos are as good as her marketing, I'm in!

Great post!

I had a huge post ready for submit, but decided your's was perfect, and more tactful.

I do want to add,

Who here, after years of preparation and hard work, would dare to put out their own workouts to the advanced exerciser, knowing full well, you'd get slammed/criticised for ways of advertising, dialog, voice, hair, breathing, whooing, tan, clothes, mannerisms, form, set, music, website, backgrounders, cueing, arrangement, weight choice, exercise choice, creativity or lack thereof, etc. etc. etc.?

I'd rather drop a bowling ball on my toe than go through that kind of pain.

No wonder we have so few advanced instuctors to chose from.

I hope Amy has all kinds of success with these workouts.

I'm jumping back in to this thread because it hit 3000 hits!

;-) ;-) "Whoooo-Whoooo-Whoooo" ;-) ;-)

And so agree that Amy Bento got herself ALOT of free publicity and some orders to boot by posting on these fitness websites with her site link. }( }(

Gotta give her a BIG LOUD..."WHOOOOO-WHOOOOO" for pulling that off!:p

Well i just looked at these.
What is with the wooo wooo.
She does kinda immitate cathe, but not even close.
The music is probably what is available to all producers at a certain cost. I have heard the same music in alot of tapes. It is what is in and reasonably priced at the time.
AS FOR ME.
NOT BUYING THESE.

Hi
I ordered Pump on Saturday and it came this morning so I did it. It is great. A good variety of exercises.
Warm up
Step ups using a 10 inch step with arm raises.
squats traveling with side lateral arm raises.
Squats 3 sets of 16 with curtsey lunges (killer)
Lunges with front foot on a dumb bell
Biceps sitting on your step leaning back.
tricep pushups
push ups with one hand on the step.
kick backs
rows
you use the stabiliy ball for some abs
roll in bent knees
roll in plank position
There are a few more exercises I can't remember them all. All and all very good workout. Amy is up beat there are stretches where you need them.
This one is a keeper and I will add it to my rotations.
It is one of the first non Cathe DVD's that I really like.
I found out about it through this post. I am very pleased.

Susan

Thanks for the review Susan. It sounds great.

I was wondering, for those of you who ordered, did you receive any kind of shipment notification or tracking number? My credit card has been charged but I haven't received an email or anything.

Thanks,
Jacque

I thought her form was good. Remember this is an advanced/intermediate dvd so you need to have knowledge of working out. Any Cathe fan no problem following her moves.

Got my order in today bootcamp and allpump.I previewed and am really impressed. The only thing cathe like is the music and the intensity. The moves are fresh at least for me.
The core work is mostly standing and a added twist for hip raises by putting your feet on a step. Her form on the bootcamp workout for squats is perfect they are one legged with your wt on one leg.along with that exercise the legs consisted of lunges to the side with stability ball concentrating one leg at a time-lunges with dumbell going across the body-bounce squat on the stabilty ball-the tlt move with paper plate except she uses a towel and a barbell for balance. The only thing I didn't like was the omiting of chest and back. The triceps are worked two times ,shoulders three, and biceps once.
It is however for me a well produced and put together workout. She also shipped fast and by fedex.I look forward to doing it hopefully tomorrow.

Hi all,

Feedback on videos

On her A-Team Bootcamp Video she is off beat which is annoying right off the bat, her shoulders are rounded forward and the a-team is not in sync. Her rocket jumps are taken directly from Cathe's Imax videos, she just changed the name. The pike ups on the ball are also from Cathe's CoreMax video. I wouldn't buy again, I'm happy to wait for what Cathe has next.

Her step moves are more original, didn't see anything like what Cathe does, but again her form isn't great, shoulders rounded forward, she is off beat, she doesn't teach on a 32 count, her music is way too low, her team seems unable to keep up and is not in sync all the way through. The workout itself is too complicated even for the seasoned stepper, it's boarderline dangerous. I barely broke a sweat because I was trying not to break my leg! I much prefer Patrick Goudeau, fun original moves but in the same respect, safe, with a real professional. I felt like she was trying too hard to be hard and it felt dangerous. I wouldn't buy again.

Those are the two I got. All in all it just seems very ammature. I am a new participant in this forum, but not to Cathe or her webstie. I have been buying Cathe videos for many many years and I have to say no one comes close. All of Cathe's videos are exciting challenging and professional, she makes you want to keep going. There is just no comparison between the two. It would be like comparing Hedi Klum to Joan Rivers.

Again, someone made a reference to her (Amy's) studio, I'm pretty sure it's a living room. If you look at her gallery, in some of the pictures there is just junk in the background. It looks like they put a whole bunch of furniture there to get it out of the way. I understand she is a new comer but I agree with most of you all if you want to break into this business do it right, don't try and get free publicity (which she did fantastically) do it right or it may come back to bite you.

I'm bringing this back up because I just finished Powermax for the first time, and you know, Cathe does an awful lot of whooping in this workout;) Maybe you just eventually grow out of the whooping:p

Shelley! I have that dvd but haven't used it yet...please don't tell me it is littered with "WhoooWhoing and Whooping"?!?!!! Ack!

I have grown accustomed to Cedie's Whooooing in Bootcamp but I still want to put my fist in her mouth every time she does it, so yes...perhaps it is a 'beginner video star' type of thing?!!

Ack at Powermax though. Now I'll drag my feet before I do it. x(

FORGOT to add...this thread has 4000+ hits!!! Can she make it to 5K? Amy Bento should send us all a free workout for talking about her so much. ;-)

Perkiness and Whooping

I like instructors who are perky but not too chatty. I do like instructors who talk a lot, but I want to hear encouragement and form pointers (not idle chatter). Funny remarks that make me laugh are always welcome. I appreciate a good sense of humor. I love Jen’s personality, but Leslie and Denise are too much for me. I love Cathe’s personality, but I watched clips of Amy’s new workouts and think she is a bit too hyper for my taste too. Perkiness and whooping are like salt and pepper. The right amount enhances the flavor, but too much is overkill. Of course, the “right amount” is a matter of personal taste. Cathe in IMAX2 is just the right amount of whooping for my taste. That is a “whoop worthy” workout, and I am right there with her. :7 I love Cedie and never notice her whooping in Boot Camp. I am very passionate and excitable. I can be very hyper myself at times. I think that is why instructors who are more balanced appeal to me. I am drawn to warmth and encouragement for sure. Not clinical. Not hyper. Just energetic and enthusiastic without driving me nuts! Is that too much to ask?! ;)

I have read that Amy is planning to edit out some of the whooping and raise the volume of the music in her hi-lo workout. That is the only one I might possibly be interested in anyway. I will still wait for a video clip and reviews. Hopefully, Collage will carry it as well so I can send it back if it is not my cup of tea. As I wrote in my earlier post, there is a lack of good floor aerobics workouts these days. It would be nice to find someone to provide them. Cathe favors step workouts, and Kari Anderson is not planning to film any new workouts as far as I know. For right now, I have my hands full with Cathe, Kari, and Jen. :7

I just bought Power Max last month. I have only done it once, and I have not been drawn to it again. I did not notice the whooping. It was all those lunges in the warmup that got me! There are a lot of fun moves in Power Max. Cathe spends more time breaking down the choreography in this workout, and it is not as complex as Rhythmic Step (my personal favorite). I was ready to cry over no mambos, cha chas, or pivot turns. Thankfully, she cools down with a Latin section that includes some of these and is a lot of fun to do. It is actually my favorite part of the whole workout! I had fun doing the 360s too! What a super fun move! The ponies with the party arms are fun too. Actually, it has a lot of fun moves. It is just different and will take some time for me to adjust to the style. I would like it better with IMAX2 music. I am also very visual, and Cathe’s newer sets are much more appealing to me. I prefer her personality and relaxed camera presence in her newer videos (from the Slow and Heavy Series forward). Power Max is a great workout without a doubt, but Cathe has definitely gotten better (and more beautiful!) through the years. I feel the same way about Kari Anderson and Jen Carman too. I think I would actually use Power Max a lot more often if I had it on DVD. It would be fun to do the step segment of Step, Jump, & Pump then add on my favorite Power Max combinations. Okay, I am going to check out the Power Max whooping now. ;-)

Blessings,
Heather B.

Power Max

I just watched the first 20 minutes of Power Max. First, the good news. There is no whooping during the first 10 minutes of the warmup. Between Cathe and Cedie, there is quite a bit of whooping after that. Like I wrote before, I did not notice it the one time I did this workout. Cathe is actually pretty cute in this workout. It is fun to see how she has matured as an instructor. Her body is a lot more muscular and defined now too. She looked fit back then but is in awe-inspiring shape now. I think her Power Max figure is actually attainable for those of us who are not as genetically blessed. Well, her arms and legs are attainable anyway. ;) I will always have hips and a bubble butt. Try Power Max once, or at least preview it just for grins. :7 It really is a fun workout. :)

Blessings,
Heather B.

To Whoop or not to Whoop, that is the direction of this thread as it builds to the big 5K!!!!!

(I think we're all a little itchy waiting for another great workout)
