Amy Bento - 1st time and didn't like it, anyone else ?

Hey,

I am pretty used to Cathe's style and will be sticking mostly with her workouts but I did try an Amy Bento workout All Pump and didn't like her style and felt some of her moves weren't all that "safe" like the curtsy squats, maybe its just me. Does anyone else feel this way ? It seems like she Whew's to much and I feel like she copied Cathe. Maybe its just because its my first time doing it but I thought I'd get other thoughts on her. No offense, if you like her that's fantastic!

Laura, I didn't like her the first time I did her workout either. I thought that although she clearly caters to the advanced exerciser, her cueing left a lot to be desired. I actually like her individual 'moves' and her routines, but I think her cueing is confusing and the workouts have a bit of a 'crazed' feel to them. I still occasionally do her workouts (hi/lo) because hi/lo stuff is hard to find. I think she has potential to be really good though. I do prefer Cathe and Kimberly Spreen.

I tried out one of her step videos a few months ago (can't remember what it was called). I also didn't quite click with her. She was a little too cheerleader-y for my taste, and I agree that it didn't seem that safety was foremost in her mind when she created the workout. It was by no means the worst workout I've tried, but I didn't enjoy it enough to want to try her out again.

Amy's first set of workouts, which include All Pump, weren't her best, IMO. I too felt like they were a little bit of a Cathe copycat. However, her Xtreme series is great. I feel like they are original and hard! Lots of fun too. Also the "whew factor" is majorly toned down.

Laura,
I don't have an opinion on Amy but I just wanted to tell you how incredible your before and after pictures are!! What an inspiration! You're gorgeous!

Oh, yea I didn't think of the Extreme series, I might try some of those before I judge her altogether, I feel everyone needs a chance, I guess Cathe seems more "real" to me like she really cares!

Hi,

The first time I did High Low Xtreme and Kickbox Xtreme I did not like them. On KBX, when she does side jump kicks, that does not feel right to me and I do forward jump kicks. Her form isn't the best, but I try to keep mine in check. I waited about a month and tried them again and now I actually love them - good alternate cardio. I did the premixes of APX and did not like that at all - too much equipment and not hard enough (I even went heavier) - I like Cathe for strength.

I have a step workout by Amy and didn't like it at all when I first did it. I set it aside for a couple months and when I dug it out again, I found I liked it much better. In fact, right now it's one of my favorites. I'm not sure what happened in the interim. I'm expecting great things from her with experience.

RE: Amy Bento - 1st time and didn't like it, anyone els...

I actually viewed her kickbox extreme that my friend had purchased and was shocked by the lack of cueing and her moves which many seemed to be very spastic and dangerous. For example the jump kick to the side which she doesn't call she just says jump kick and not to mention the beat is extremely fast so not only are you performing an extremely akward move but you are also doing it very quickly.
Me personally I hate her and all of her workouts. I have been a fitness instructor for three years now and as another poster said her cueing and her form leave much to be desired.
I also previewed her other workouts and like some other people were saying I just didn't click with her. I find her boring, unoriginal and even dangerous.
My friend didn't even perform the whole video because she was so mad after trying to follow her weird choreography with no help from amy herself. She has never done it since and her or I have no desire to ever purchase anything from Amy ever agian.
Maybe she will get better with time but for right now she is one that I will never workout with.

Hmmm, maybe I'll get out the hi/lo tomorrow. I have only done it once and didn't like it, but since a couple of you liked it the 2nd time, well I'll give it another try. I'll let you know if I decide to love it.;-)

I understand your frustration but we should really try to keep things civil here on this forum. I just don't think it's necessary to be so harsh.

I bought Amy's Hi/Lo Xtreme and I like it a lot. I usually do half of it at a time because I'm into half hour cardios these days. (Really looking forward to Cathe's 4 day split!) HLX also divides quite nicely into 2 half hour segments. I also bought it because there was a ton of footage from the All Pump Xtreme DVD included in premixes. However, when I tried one of the premixes I found I did not like her style when it came to lifting weights. There seemed to be too many equipment changes, plus my knees were killing me and I don't have bad knees. I think it was the curtsey lunges and the Hack Squats (I think that's what they are called) with your heels elevated on the back of a step. They were just premixes with portions and did not include all the APX footage so I might not be giving a fair assessment of that dvd but it soured me towards her weight workouts. I prefer Cathe for weight workouts. However, I do enjoy Amy's enthusiasm and energy on HLX. I happen to like hi/lo workouts and find that there aren't a lot that have simple athletic choreography (which I need 'cause I'm a klutz.)

Okay hate is a strong word and I agree that was too harsh. I guess I have just become accustomed to things like cueing when necessary especially for more complicated and riskier moves as well as saftey cues. It is really not so much that Cathe is the only person I will work out with, I also teach kickboxing and body sculpting at two gyms. Amy truly has terrible form in many of her moves. I guess I just don't see the value in her workouts.
Sorry if I stepped on any toes but like I said my friend purchased the kickbox extreme and has never done it all the way through or had any desire to ever try it agian. I watched it with her and I couldn't agree more.

I have Amy's Hi/Lo Extreme and have done it a few times, but it never really "clicks" with me. Cathe's personality is just so much more fun, so I find myself never reaching for the Hi/Lo DVD . . . .

I actually pulled out KBX and did that tonight with weighted gloves - concentrating on my form, punches and kicks. Where she did side kicks in the first interval, I do them forward as it's more natural to me. Once you know the workout, the lack of cuing is okay for me. She's not Cathe, for sure and I love Cathe's workouts, but this is a nice change. Glad I saw this thread as it gave me the idea to do this and I had a great workout (was supposed to do KPC), followed by 500 jacks and 10 min jump rope (Jan 06 rotation).

i have 3 from her first series and i rather enjoy it. i haven't tried any others yet though. from her clip of KBX it wasn't that great but i am really want to give APX a try. i am also getting her boot camp in a trade. i didn't think she was cathe like. nobody can even hold a candle LOL. i think she is unique in her own way. she is also so generous. on her presale she is giving forum members free shipping and last week we got a chance to win her 10 min. solution dvd in a trivia game. i won WOOHOO!! she is so nice but the great thing about workout videos is that you can always put it up for trade or sale if its not for you.

different workouts makes the world goes round LOL. i would give something from her extreme series a shot, alot of reviews says she toned down a lot and they are much better production, and well though out routines.

I have hi-low extreme. I have done it several times. I so wanted to like it, but I guess I am "spoiled" by Cathe!!! I find that I just don't look forward to doing it the way I do with Cathe's cardio workouts. I will keep doing it for variety, though. Its in the "Cathe" appreciation category!!!;-)

RE: Amy Bento - 1st time and didn't like it, anyone els...

I've only done her Hi/Lo Xtreme and I really liked it. There aren't too many good hi/lo routines out there. This one was easy to follow and really kept my heartrate up throughout the workout. I liked the music and the workout went by really quickly for me. It was more athletic choreography. I will definitely be doing this one again. I think she wooed a lot more in her first series than the Xtreme series. I also have her Advanced Step Challenge which I haven't tried yet. I know this one's only 40 mins. but I'd like to start doing shorter cardio sessions that really work me hard.

RE: Amy Bento - 1st time and didn't like it, anyone els...

I love Hi/Lo Ex. In fact, it's the only hi/lo workout I like! The premixes are great too. I also love her Bootcamp workout. There's quite a bit of whooping on it, but I've been able to tune it out because the workout itself is kick butt and has some interesting weight routines. She's new to the field and there are some Cathe comparisons, but I feel eventually she'll make a name for herself. There were lots of negative reviews on her extreme workouts when they first came out, but many people who initially felt cold towards them discovered they liked them after a few tries.
