Actually, from what I understand, all 12 finalists already have a contract with AI, which they sign the moment they become finalists. Maybe AI releases some of them from the contract when they don't win? So they can't totally control what they want to do. But I agree with you, and so does Randy Jackson! He said it's better for BO to come in second, because he would otherwise be forced to tone down his rocker style to make it more acceptable to a wider audience (as THE American Idol). (And if you win, you could be stuck with crappy songwriters like Reuben is--unless it's just his bad taste at picking songs. But then again, you could get good songs, like Kelly Clarkson.)
