American Idol Finale - What A Show!

BAM

Cathlete
I didn't really follow this season of AI but I'm glad I saw the finale. They seem to always have such enjoyable performers. I so enjoyed Seal, Donna Summer, ZZ Top, Bryan Adams and of course, George Michael, who had a cold, but it was still great to see him! THAT was entertainment! I just felt so good watching it. I say kudos to AI, Dancing with the Stars, and other entertainment shows that bring pure pleasure without any smut. It's nice to go to bed with a smile on my face from watching television. It didn't matter to me who won as they are both winners and will do amazingly well in their careers. Hope others enjoyed it as well!!! :) :) :)

Well, I missed the first 30 minutes, but all I really wanted to see was who won! I do find it interesting that the last couple years they really haven't had any current big-name singers on the finale. I mean, I do love Donna Summer, ZZ Top, Bryan Adams, etc. but none of those people have had a hit in years, it's like an eighties round-up! I'm sure the kids watching the show don't have a clue who these people are. I would think since it's probably one of the highest watched programs of the year they would get people like Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Usher, etc. on the finale. Just my opinion. Although I did love seeing George Michael again. :)

I'm thrilled David Cook won, although I wouldn't have been extremely disappointed if it was David Archeleta. I swear, David Cook has made me cry probably half a dozen times this season. He has such an amazing voice. He just seems so sincere and grateful for the opportunity, and is truly talented. I really have no desire to see the Idols tour (as that would mean listening to all of the others, many of whom I'm not crazy about!) but I'll definitely be looking for David C's solo CD and would love to see him alone in concert.

It's just nice to see good things happen to deserving people! Now that Idol and The Office are done for the season, what am I going to do with all that spare time? :)

I agree wholeheartedly - the show was great. Good performances, comedic acts...the whole show was awesome. I'm so happy Cook won, but as the judges said, both of them have it made. I found it interesting that Simon apologized to Cook for going overboard Tues. night. I really thought this season was the best so far.

Admittedly an AI junkie,
Heidi

i love cook but wish archuleta would have won. i think archuleta really fits the AI mold. they could really make a star out of him. i feel like cook is more like daughtry and is not reaally a "pop" idol but a true artist who can do well without being under the wings of AI. i think the best thing that ever happened to daughtry was being voted off. he went on to have the best selling album of 2007 (and believe me, it is AWESOME!!!). now, cook will have to play the AI game for at least a year and i believe they will have control over his debut cd. he may not get to show who he really is as an artist.

archuleta would do very well under AI's wing as i think he is still figuring out who he is as an artist. he has an amazing voice and really brought his "A" game to the finals. he's a great singer. i think that might be the difference. cook appears to be an artist and archuleta more of a singer at this point. archuleta needs time to grow as an artist and i think AI could help him do that (after all, he is only 17).

i hate to say it, but i wish cook didn't win and could just do his own thing. then we could see how good he really is. like i said above, i didn't realize just how amazing daughtry was until i heard his album. he wrote the songs and it's a constant in my cd player. it's GREAT!

just my two cents.

I know exactly what you mean about the AI contracts and the control they have over the stars. But I thought after making the mistake the year of Kelly Clarkson, they decided to make the top 10 sign contracts?? I'm pretty certain Archuleta will still be under AI wings for the next several years. He will do great. I just know it. I

I'm glad Cook won. He's already a recording star. I've already purchased all his songs on itunes. His voice is amazing.

I was glad to see David Cook win. I think he much more marketable than David Archuletta. They both will do well. My favorite part of the show was with Gladys Knight and her Pips. That was so funny!! I loved Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. That stole the show IMO.

I feel the same way.

David A. should have won AI (and 'needed' it more), but David C. would have the bigger career no matter what, IMO. In fact, I worry that winning AI can sometimes stiffle an artist who doesn't fit the pop mold, because they may be more locked into something they don't want to do (like singing the 'official winner's song'--usually a piece of dreck).

With the exception of Kelly Clarkson and (the blond country singer?), I've never been interested in any former AI winner or their music (Ruben? I heard a couple of really bad songs from him on the radio, one with pretty much the repeated lyrics "I'm sorry." Fantasia? Never liked her from the beginning, and they way she always did some kind of "whao whao whao" at the end of each song drove me nuts).

Lorie, I agree completely with your post. That said, I think they both have big careers ahead of them. I can't wait to buy a David Cook CD!

Taped it to watch this weekend, but saw the last couple of minutes for the winner. I was surprised but not disappointed that D. Cook won - I think they'll both do just fine. Little David is already the heart-throb of the the teeny-bopper girl set, so I'm sure he'll be right up there with Miley Cyrus in no time.
