Alternatives to Front Lunges

I experience pain at the back of my right knee during front lunge exercises. Is there an alternate lunge exercise that works the same muscle groups?

Try doing reverse lunges--same as doing a front lunge except you step backward. Stepping backward allows you to achieve perfect form more easily than front lunges. I also feel discomfort with front lunges but don't when I do reverse lunges. Hope this helps!
 
I always do static lunges because they cause me no knee pain since I can set myself in a comfortable position to start with and stick with it. I assume they work approximately the same muscles...they sure are working something!
