Eat a handful a day for good health. How many is that? Do they mean a small handful which to me would be about 6 whole natural, or a larger amount? Anyone know the answer?
 
I find that it's easier to measure mine out. I usually eat 1/4 cup as a serving which is about 2 handfuls for my relatively small hands.

I usually mix almonds, brazil nuts (high in selenium) and walnuts (omega 3) and take a bunch and throw in yogurt. Delicious. Haven't gained any weight eating lots of nuts.

I was told years ago by an nutritionalist/herbalist to have 10 almonds a day. I got a good chuckle watching 'The Devil Wears Prada' when they showed someone counting out almonds during a montage scene.:)

The package of almonds I have sitting on my desk says a serving size is 1/4 cup. That's 190 calories, 5 grams of carbs, 4 grams of dietary fiber, and 8 grams of protein in case anyone's interested. ;-) I love them!
 
About how many is that? I don't have a measuring cup at my desk. Just a can of Blue Diamond Whole Natural Almonds.

Raw, soaked almonds are actually better than roasted (roasting/heating denatures the oils, destroys enzymes, and makes nuts harder to digest). I take raw almonds, soak them overnight in the fridge (to activate enzymes that help with digestion of fat and protein and reduce the enzyme inhibitors present mostly in the skin of the nuts, then let them air dry (I've also dried them in a dehydrator, which makes them crunchier).
 
I love almonds they have become new afternoon snack. I mix them with some dried cranberries and a couple of choc chips. Keeps me feeling good for a couple of hours.

When you soak the almonds, how much water to almonds do you use. Does it change the flavor of the nut? Thanks~deb:)
 
I eat 6 almonds every, every day. I figured that this amounted to 1 point on my weight watchers thing. Some people eat vitamins every day, I eat almonds.

What an excellent idea! I am going to have to try that. I already eat dried cranberries which I usually put in with my carrots and blackbeans in the morning, but this might stop me from eating all my sweets in the afternoon.
 
There are about 28 almonds in a serving.

Just use enough water to cover. And rinse them when they're done soaking (6-8 hours).

The almonds change a bit in flavor, maybe a bit sweeter. Everyone I've had sample them thought they tasted good. If you can dehydrate them (at 118 degrees or below), they get nice and crispy, and you can even add spices to make different flavors.
