All You in Virginia

Not to send panic, but I heard that gas stations will be closing as of midnight tonight and will not reopen until Tuesday.

The WTOP news website said that was a rumor, but who knows. I have half a tank of gas and every intention of making it last for the next week. If a place isn't within walking distance, I'm staying home.

I guess we got lucky that we cancelled our trip. We were suppose to go to Virginia Beach this weekend, but had to cancel due to gas costs and other issues.

Haven't heard anything like this, but I can tell you, here in Newport News/Yorktown area, cheaper grades of gas are often simply gone. People are lining up to get any gas that is "cheaper" now. We've got both our truck and the van topped off and have cancelled a trip to the Bowling Green area. We are hoping to get deep into next week before refueling. We don't let our vehicles go below three-quarters full anymore.

Guess this means a weekend home, actually resting:)

That same rumor went around here in Maryland too, so much so that apparently the governor had to make an announcement refuting the rumor.

i am in lynchburg,va.they said there is no worry and it was a hoax. in fact two of the pipelines that serve the state are in somewhat operation. one at 60% and the other at 95%. not saying the gas situation with prices and what not will get better but a shortage is not expected at this time and things will look up if they can open up the remaining lines and hopefully opening up some of the refineries that weren't badly damaged.

also i am watching fox news and geraldo is on at the convention center in new orleans and said its pretty horrid site but supplies have moved in and more busses are coming to get more ppl and thank you houston for opening up two more arenas for victims. its said it had to get to this point but it seems there is glimmer. lets just pray, send positive energy and hope all can get to a safe place.

many places are taking cash donations like wal-mart had a jar set up at every register and donating to salvation army in our city. four local stations have raised $460,000 and trailers and busses of food, water, and other neccesities. i better stop before i start crying again. just thankfull all here and all our families are safe and pray for those that are having to go through to find saftey.

Hey Kassia your not far from me I live in WV close to the Va boarder I tuned in to all 4 of the radio stations and was amazed at the response in such a short amount of time.Gas went down here yesterday evening to 2.99 from 3.29.

Well I am sorry if I alarmed everyone for no reason, but I didn't know if it was true or not. Just better to be safe then be out of gas completely. Especially where I live. Not everything is close by.
Gas prices here in Luray were $3.21 and my DD said she seen where it was $2.99 somewhere.

I live on the western side of VA and just topped off my tank yesterday with the cheapest I found around here, $2.99 gallon. Went by the same station last night and the prices were erased from the sign. The tank nozzles were covered. Seems they don't have gas at this moment.

hey charlotte no worry. its good to get things out but we were just lucky to finally get the story straight. sometimes rumors, true or not, are spread like wild fire. i just like to make sure its all good before i panic LOL. but now i am aware that things like can happen if need be.

gas here went up last night 10 cents from the morning. i haven't been out yet but we will see what happens. some places were 2.99 but have jumps to 3.19 being the cheapest and 3.40 the most expensive. its rough but i can't complain b/c there are ppl who have to pay more and i did fill the tank before all this got the proportions it did so i will be good until the 12th maybe the 14th if we watch how much we drive. hubby is working alot so its only and from work and that is almost nothing on car. unfortantley we have metered cabs here and they raised the rates so it would be more expensive for the cab then the car and buses actually don't run to the college after 7pm when hubby gets off work so that doesnt really work for us. we are thinking of maybe a couple ppl who all work on the same day do a carpool to help conserve.

I'm also in Lynchburg, VA. The gas prices here jump about 30-50 cents daily. I'm not currently working so I've gotten to where I just stay home all day to avoid using gas. Wonder if the gas prices will ever come down and then we'll think $3.00 a gallon is a bargain. Can't imagine it but it may well be the case in days to come.

well last year at this time in va gas was 1.79 and now we would think 2.19-30 would be cheap. its been getting slowly worse over the years but when this hurrciane hit it just was a shock to everything. i would have thought at the end of this year it would have remained at 2.30 or so and that would be the norm until next summer's panic on gas. glad i moved to lynchburg b/c there is alot here and don't have to travel far(could even take a bus if need be) unlike where i lived before where it was 10 miles to a store just to get a gallon of milk.
