HI, for all you animial lovers & I know there are alot of us here, please go visit bestfriends.org & whatever donations you can give, please give to them. They help all animals all over the world. Recently they made news because they rescuted 200 animals from MIddle East,

i am a member of best friends and spent a week there this summer. i got a flier from them a few years back and didnt think they were legit. after i found out how wonderful they were, i had a dream to go there. my boyfriend and i got to spend a wonderful week there this summer. i would strongly suggest the place to anyone. (while there, we visited bryce and the grand canyon.) the cottages we stayed in were right by one of the groups of horses. i got particularly attached to roy. i spent much time with him, and actually got a photo of him putting his head over my shoulder as i pet him. i am 6 feet, but even i had to stand on tip toes.

i sponsor a few animals. two are the goats thelma and louise. they are a riot, and love human attention.

oh, by the way. if you go there, you are welcome to have a doggie sleepover. they "rent out" dogs for the nite. great for the socialization. we had a one nite sleepover with the laundry room cats, mrs. bigglesworth and kc. it helped me because i missed my cats so much.

would love to hear from others who have visited. i hope to go back again, maybe early fall.

I donate a dollar every time I am in Petsmart to their foundations and I rescue dogs that are roaming around the neighborhood-not lately though. The last dog I rescued was a Pit Bull and I didn't know until I got to the vets office;( He was smiling though!
I love animals and will do what I can to help. Thanks for reminding us how much every little bit helps.

I hope to get there this summer, I so very much want to go. I have been donating to them for years. In fact, it was a bone of contention between my ex & me . (Notice I said ex) He wanted me to donate to people charities, I prefer Best Friends to any other charity & that is where the bulk of any extra money I have goes.

Thank you all for spreading the word about this place.

Also, you all must read the book Marly & Me, it is one of the best true animal stories I have ever read. Anyone who has ever had a pet will be able to identify with it.

hi karen,

i am half way through marley and me. i tend to read animal stories. i spend my time laughing and crying while reading. i bought a few more animal books from amazon. they all look good.

the accomodations at best friends are great. there are cottages and cabins. i am pretty sure we were in the cottages. they are the bigger ones. very cheap. you will be amazed at how much the people there know about animals. it is very strict, so you cant just volunteer. you need to sign up for a training, and then the dogs have specific collars. green is anyone can go to it, yellow i think is old or medical needs and red is only staff allowed. cats are easier.

check out my pal roy. he is in the "retired" section of the guardian angels. the sweetest horse ever.

i would be happy to email you some photos of the place and/or give you more info for sight seeing (bryce, zion, grand canyon, etc) and where the town is. there is one main supermarket, but some really good places to eat. by the way, your cell phone wont work on the ranch. you have to go into the town to use it. forces you to relax!
