Hi again Lisa, and everyone else.
Yeah, what Rockette said in the previous post (when will I feel pregnant). Different doctors do things differently. The practice I'm going to likes to do a sonogram a lot earlier than some. Insurance companies around here typically only cover one sonogram, if that much. The doctors where I'm going feel like - if you only get one, early on is better just to make sure the kid is in the right place to begin with and the heart is beating okay, also to verify (or change) the due date. Of course, if there seems to be trouble later on, they go ahead and order more.
Looks like, provided all goes well, I'll end up having four total. The two I mentioned at seven and eleven weeks (the doctor didn't charge for the second of those since the first one didn't yield enough information to confirm a due date) were the standard sonograms everyone who goes there gets. Or just the one if they can determine a due date as early as week seven.
The other two are because DH & I decided to try to determine the gender of our precious little hobbit so we had to pay $75 out of pocket since insurance wouldn't even think about covering it considering sex determination is not a medical issue. The reason we'll get one more down the road is because the doctor who's doing the sex determination likes to double check, especially when he thinks IT'S A GIRL!! Yep, looks like a wee lassie in there, couldn't find anything that looks like a fifth appendage, plus there were some other signs that point to her being a girl :7.
Hey, we just love little guys, they've got a truly brilliant set of charms all their own, and if we do have another we'll certainly hope for a boy next time, but until now my mum has had two grandsons and no granddaughters so we're quite happy to be able to offer a little more variety to her grandmothering experience! Really though, we kind of wanted a little girl so we're really pleased. She's going to be such a daddy's girl, I just know it, and I won't be at all surprised if she's a rough & tumble tomboy (like her mummy) to boot ;-)!
By the way, this particular doctor obviously loves doing sonograms, I think he was having almost as much fun as DH & I! He also used the opportunity to take lots of measurements and look at all the organs and the spine and everything he could possibly have a look at just to make sure she's well put together, and I'm more than a little thrilled to say that everything looked great!! Incidentally, this was done at week 19. I'm week 20 now, right about halfway there!
Oh my, I do ramble on! I just get so excited when I get started on the kid. I can't help it, this new addition to our family is absolutely my favourite topic of conversation these days !
