Alert! dh in the kitchen!!!!

Cathlete
does your dh cause horrible events in the kitchen?? mine does! i try to keep him out of it at all costs!!! he boils things over, he spills, drips, leaves crumbs and burns things!!! the worst ever was the time he used the frydaddy!!! he had just finished making fries and he wanted to cool the grease so he could put the lid on (i'm guessing) i was sitting at the bar talking to him, and suddenly i hear a loud explosion and he is runiing toward me (away from the fryer) yelling and it's raining grease!!!x( ouch! after i collected myself, i asked what the hell happened???!!!! he put ice cubes in the grease! he's an engineer! sigh. it gets worse. i tell him that he is cleaning that one up on his own! there was grease all over the floors, the wooden cabinets, the counters, everywhere!!! i leave him to it and when i came back to check his progress, much to my dismay, the man is using windex!!!!:* i ended up having to do it myself! that was almost 4 yrs ago and it's still not very funny (except for the look of horror on his face as he ran}( ) needless to say, he is not allowed to fry anything!

so , tell me a story about one of your "dh kitchen clalmities"

Keep a can of pepper spray handy in case he starts to sneak in! }(

I don't have a dh, just an xh and he never cooked! I would have suffered the disasters just to have someone else do the cooking back then.

Oh man Jes, where do I begin. Well about two weeks ago I was at the kitchen table eating my dinner. DH decided to make a pot of coffee. He pulls out the coffee filter with moist grinds from the previous pot. As he pulls it out, the entire filter flys towards me. I had that s*it in my hair,in my ear, down my bra and all over the kitchen floor leading to my carpet in the dining room. I was cleaning up that mess for about 2 hours including myself for another half hour. He is also the cook in my house, so I get a mess every night. I find grease on my kitchen window and food on the walls all the time. I will go grab a fork out of the drawer & will feel some sort of food or grease on the knobs. I clean that kitchen for about 45 min to an hour after we eat dinner. I don't understand how he makes the mess that he does!

LOL Jes...sorry, but I just had to laugh at that one! :+ Though I must say if it were me, I'd probably have come darn close to KILLIN' my DH coz we all know men can't clean worth a !@#$!!!! That must have been a horror-scene to clean up after. OH MY!

My DH never caused a DISASTER though he IS quite messy when he cooks. He knows his "limits" in the kitchen though and does not try to exceed them. I guess that's a good thing, huh? lol He tops out at making hot dogs and mac and cheese and blts...that's about his best work.

Have a great work out!

I had an xh who "cooked": That is, he took dry spaghetti, put it in a pot, put cold water in the pot, and put the whole thing on the stove to cook. About two hours later he had a pot of glue, basically.

Aila,
I would love it if my Dh cooked every night. I really wouldn't mind cleaning up after him...or make the kids do it. he he :7

Wendy,
I've heard that gay men are clean freaks. Is this true? My DH (who is not gay, btw) is a clean freak but doesn't do much around here but complain about how clean it should be. Uh...yeah, that's right.

LOL Aila.

Men are just inherently more messy then women I think AND not nearly as good as cleaning up the mess afterwards...or atleast that is what they want us to believe!

Ever see the episode of Everybody Loves Raymond where Ray is accused of faking his inability to cook and clean, etc., just so that he wouldn't have to do it? I think there might be some truth to that for some of these guys (including my DH!!!)!x( LOL

Have a great work out!

Well good! i'm glad i'm not the only one!

Aila: gross!!!!!!!! i would have been livid!!! i did read the other day somewhere that coffee grounds (used) can be rubbed on cellulite to make it vanish!!!! i though about saving mine, but .....nah;-) i swear! your dh must be a good cook for you to willingly clean that up every night! goodness!

Bunbun,

That's the way I cook..lol! I have done that with Kraft mac and cheese for my kids. I had to cook up a second box because I overcooked the noodles.

Aila

Oh my gosh .I thought i was the only one that goes thru what you go thru . funny thing with my hubby is hes a Chef.Oh his Kitchen at work is differant then mine ,thats the part I dont get LOL}( }(

Shirely,

I think you might be right on the gay men thing...goodness knows they are always dressed wonderfully and NEVER have a wrinkle on them! I'll be you anything they keep a lovely home!:)

If your DH is a clean freak...then why doesn't he clean? Clean freaks usually LIKE to clean...or so I thought...

Have a great work out!

Wendy,

I love that show, but I can't remember that episode. My son is going right in his dad's shoes with the messiness too. I think it's a man thing too.

Jes,

I am really lucky that coffee didn't stain my rug! My rugs are a really light gray and you can see everything on it. It was a really nasty mess. DH is an amazing cook, so it is definitely worth the mess. I just have to inspect my kitchen every night before I go to bed to make sure I didn't miss anything.

I hate when my DH cooks. Tonight I had tacos on the menu (dd likes 'em) and he got in there and started cooking the meat before I even got a chance to get my sweat pants on after working out. That creep put huge chunks of onion in the taco meat! #1) a 4 year old girl does NOT want onions in her taco; #2) this 37 year old girl does NOT want onions in her taco. And what's worse - he KNOWS that. I just find that so rude. I wouldn't knowingly put something in a dish that I liked when I know he doesn't. He puts onions in everything. And that's why he's not allowed to cook.

oh, dear donna! i personally love onions,, but dh doesn't like em, so i use the onion powder and he never notices...i think it's the texture he dislikes! i can see why that would piss you off though! maybe he just wanted his way tonight!? so did dd eat the taco meat or did the two of you up and go out to eat and leave him alone with his onions???

jes

I picked most of the onions out of hers and hoped she wouldn't notice. She did find one though and gave the ol', "what's this? I don't LIKE onions!". He can have his onions, but he shouldn't add them until we've taken our share. Actually, in all honesty, I didn't mind them. I didn't even taste them at all. :) I didn't tell him that though.

Can you believe this? I left Game of Thrones on my desk at work tonight and I won't be back until Thursday! I was really planning on getting a good chunk of that read tonight. I'm so mad!!!!!

Which is exactly why I'm teaching my to darling boys to cook AND clean.

First time they cleaned the kitchen after they cooked (a simple macaroni dish) it took them two hours to do it to my satisfaction. The second time it only took them 45minutes! And now they tidy up and start cleaning while cooking. You can really teach them how to do it and how to do it efficiently.

When the day comes that I have to hand over my sons to a girlfriend (or boyfriend, who knows?) they'll even know how to separate dirty washing, stitch in a zipper and what to look for when shopping. Noone is gonna blame me for adding two messy and lazy men to this world :)

Dutchie

My DH is abit messy in the kitchen too, but there has only been a few ocassions as he doesn't cook too much, instead we just go out for chinese, etc., if I am not feeling up to cooking. I prefer it this way anyhow! We will be married for 18 years this September!:)
