Cathlete
Hello Cathe or anyone that may be interested in helping,
I've been working pretty diligently the past couple of weeks doing doubles in hopes to shock my body into dropping the last couple of pounds it's been holding onto before my vacation over New Year's. The plan has worked and the weight is dropping but in the process of doing lots of step and KB, I have ended up with posterior shin splints. I stopped doing high impact a few days ago and joined my local gym for the use of an elliptical and other low impact machines for the next couple of weeks to give it a rest.
My question is whether or not there is a way to strengthen that area so that I don't injure it again? I am pretty sure it was mainly a result of things like wide lunges, lunges in general off the step, jumping jacks, shuffling, etc. There was just a lot of impact going on!
I don't have a treadmill or any low impact machines at home so I've always stuck to step/KB and it's never been an issue until recently when I started doing 2 a day!
Do you think I need to do something special in the future to prevent re-injury or will I just be safe as long as I don't try to do two per day?
Thanks!!
