ACE

Can anyone give me any details about getting a personal trainer cert by ACE. Is it hard?? How does it compare to AFAA?? Do you need a college degree in any related field?? How are the tests?? Thanks!!!

I can not speak from experience but I have heard that ACE is one tough test. TONS of information!!! It is, ofcourse, one of THE BEST, if not THE ABSOLUTE BEST cert out there though so if you are willing to put the sweat and tears into it, then it would probably be worth it.

I am going for a PT cert myself but I chose to do it with AFPA. My SIL is cert'd with them and is doing well as a trainer in a gym. I wasn't prepared to START with ACE but may choose to cert with ACE down the road at some point...

Good luck!:)

Hi there:
I got an ACE certification back in 2001. I have a degree in Exercise Physiology so that actually helped out quite a bit because I had learned the information previously. There is a text book that you definitely have to review and study, but ACE also has seminars and various other tools to help you learn the information. I think the test took me about 2 hours to complete - at that time it was just the written test, they might now require a hands-on component to the test - I'm not sure. I think if you really want a personal training certification then ACE is certainly worth the efforts.

I got ACE certified to be an Aerobics Instructor. The test was multiple guess, and quite difficult. I passed on the second round. Buy the book, get as much info. as you can. Also, I had no previous experience or education in this field of study either. It was a personal goal of mine to get certified and the knowledge alone was worth the time and money.

Thank you for all your info. A friend of mine owns a gym and wants me to pt. She got me all the info on ACE and I nearly fell off my chair when I saw how much detail was in the textbook. I am wondering if I should switch to AFAA??? But it seems that ACE is the better of the two. oh boy,

Hi Jane! I took the exam almost 2 years ago and it did seem a little tough. I would suggest going to a 2 day review done by exercise etc. It was SO helpful and I think their pass rate for those who take the review is like 90% or something. Everyone who took it with me passed and some hadn't really studied from the book. It was expensive but IMO, WELL worth it. You could go with AFAA as I think they are good at teaching you how to teach. But they're not going to give you the good information you'll learn with ACE. The more knowledge you have about a subject, the better you'll be at it. So I would opt to take the harder, more credible exam.

Carolyn:)
