Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ‘Wow - what a ride!’ — Peter Sage

Well, I'm not sure what it says about me, but I'm only interested in 4 of the books and none of the DVD's. I never was one to fall in lock step behind the rest of the crowd. Okay, I'll admit it--I'm just plain weird!

Nah, I'm not interested in any of the DVDs either, but I did watch one yesterday not on the list that makes a wonderful gift. It is called "Extraordinary Visions" with Dewitt Jones. Using his stunning photographs with National Geographic as illustrations he inspires you to touch your own passion and creative potential.

Okay, Michele, tell me which four books and I let you know if I guessed them correctly!! :D My top want from that list is the Political Genuis of Abraham Lincoln. I think my bro is getting it from Santa though so I'll pinch his copy. :D

As for the DVDs, I'd want the sci-fi ones.

Here goes:

1. 1776 by David McCullough - I love McCullough and everytime I read his books I can hear that fabulous voice! I adore his narrations.
2. Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln (hope Doris did her own work this time)
3. Chronicles of Narnia because I love it and don't have the whole set
4. The World is flat by Friedman because my SIL, the BIG lib, challenged me to read it
5. WTH - I'll throw in Rachel Ray because she's adorable!

March of the Penguins is on my son's Christmas list. I was actually wrapping that one up last night.

There's only one book in the list that I'd like to have and that's the one by Joan Didion.

Well I only got one wrong, the Narnia boxed set :D.

Have you read any other Friedman? If not I recommend his From Beirut to Jerusalem as well.

Pinky,

I've been intrigued by this book and I've heard great things about it. I tend towards depression this time of year and I'm afraid something like this would push me over the edge. I don't want to feel so sad. I'd love to hear your critique though.

Sparrow,

My gosh, am I that predictable--LOL! I'm curious about the one you got wrong.

I haven't read anything by Friedman but have always meant to. I think of all the NYT correspondents, he's the most reasonable--and William Safire is a great columnist. Have you read Safires "lend Me your Ears"? It's a collection of great speeches and very inspiring.

Predictable only in the sense that everyone who hangs out here knows you're an intelligent, well-read woman! Plus, I remember from another thread you don't enjoy most popular novels :p

I had Rachel Ray in there instead of Narnia. :D

I've not read much Safire. I'll add him to my ever-growing "to read" list. Sometimes I wish they would stop publishing books until I can catch up!

Sparrow,

I know what you mean. I have a stack of books about 3 feet high that I haven't read yet and a huge wish list on Amazon. I made a pledge that I would not buy another book until I finish what I have. ;(
