Abs - no longer fun anymore......

Hey gang:

I used to LOVE doing ab workouts, but for some reason I just don't enjoy them much anymore and it's a struggle to do them. Ever since I had my son (7 years ago....) I just don't seem to like doing situps. I do have a somewhat flat stomach (it's the hips/butt that are larger than they should be) but most days it sure is a struggle.

I am very glad that Cathe's IS and BB series does some great changes regarding ab workouts and that sure helps.

Cheers, Marcia :)

Hi Marcia!

I'm with you, to be honest. Abs and abdomen generally are my weakest area and where I "hold" weight. Even though I've gotten pretty strong in the abs and lately in the core, too, the fact is that I really don't like working my abs and have to make myself do it. I think part of this feeling stems from the fact that my abs get sore really easily, unlike the rest of me anymore. It seems that if I take more than two days off between abs workouts, they are just burning by mid-way through my next abs segment.

That said, I look at this like flossing my teeth. I hate that, too, but I do it. :)

Hi Marcia! I hear you totally. I do try to do them at least 2 times a week. I thought by now I wouldn't struggle but I still do!. I wonder if it will always be like that. I hope not. The only thing I can do that is great is to stay in a plank for about 1 1/2 minute, lol.

Would you girls be interested in adding in Pilates or Yoga to your workouts?:)
Although I incorporate this everyday on doctor's orders, I noticed an added benefit by doing so. First, it made the other ab work easier as it made my core stronger. I can raise my torso much higher in the regular ab work now.
Second, for the first time in my life I like my abs. Today for example, I was doing Cathe's ab work from MIS, and I noticed the rippled muscle. I go "whoa, I never saw THAT before." :p
Third, I noticed greater flexibility in my legs. Finally...I can touch my head to my knees. Not bad for a person my age. LOL

This was just an idea to try and make your ab work more interesting and fun. As Cathe says...'whatever floats your boat.' ;-) ;-)

I was just thinking tonight as I was doing the ab section of Back, Biceps and Abs in the Pure Strength series how much I hate that particular ab workout. Cathe does this move which she calls "climbing the rope", which I absolutely cannot do without injurying my neck. There are just too many moves that involve jerking my body around. On the other hand, I don't mind the ab section at the end of the Strong Legs PS workout because the moves are more subtle. I think Cathe has enough variety in her ab workouts that you can always find something that you don't mind doing. The "Ab Hits" DVD is good for that, and I am grateful to those on this forum who recommended it to me.

I really do like AB work, seems the more challenging it is, the better I like it ... I really want flat abs no pouch, I am working on it :7 .... and my kids are 17 and 20 .... Rhonda:7 :7
