I'm trying to figure out why I'm not feeling this exercise. You know when you have the weights out at your side, arm length and your legs are straight in the air and you lower both legs to the side in one motion? Why am I not feeling this, and where exactly am I suppose to be feeling it?

The drill you're describing primarily targets the obliques, i.e. the muscles running around the sides of your torso and to the back. If you are not feeling it in this area, it is possible that your obliques are fairly well-developed and need a bit more challenge. If you can do this safely (especially for the lower back), try keeping your ankle weights on as you perform the drill. If you need to slow up the reps, or cut the drill short because of the increased weightload at the end of the legs by all means do so; you can always work up to the reps as Cathe performs them after you've gotten accustomed to the new challenge.

Thanks Annette. For some reason I was thinking I needed to feel them in my lower abs.

Hi, Jennie! In fact, this is one of the few drills that, for me, never makes me feel it in the lower portion of the abdominals; IMHO, this is because the legs return to a vertical position, perpendicular to the torso, and that means the lower portion of the abdominals AND the hip flexors really don't have to do any work to keep the lower back flat on the floor.
