Ab work in kickboxing

When I do a kickbox tape I don't actually concentrate on contracting and heavily utilizing my ab muscles. They never feel sore afterward. I'm beginning to wonder if I need to add more effort in this area OR is just doing the moves properly and in good form enough to activate the abs? Opinions anyone? (I just got my Powerstrike tapes and I have one planned for Saturday :-jumpy.)

Thanks in advance "educated crowd".

(My answers, for the most part, tend to be brief, but that IS the point I was trying to get across - a simple "yes" to your question.

I feel kickboxing in my abs primarily when the moves have you twist a bit, and the moves pull in the obliques(not so much in knee smashes). In CTX kickbox this would be like the cross punches in the beginning where you "jab, jab, cross" or in the end combo of "knee, kick, cross punch". In Cardio Kicks, Cathe has power drills that have a lot of punches that cross the body. Those I feel more than CTX. Maybe it is just a question of sheer volume. I don't think you have to get sore abs the next day for them to have been worked. I imagine the abs get used to this sort of endurance work too. Still, I guess it wouldn't hurt to think about using them a bit more. Jeanne
