Ab Scissors Movement question/opinion

When doing ab scissors (lying on back, one leg straight out an inch or so above the ground, the other straight up in the air, switch legs every so many seconds), I sometimes put my hands or even just fingertips, palm down, underneath my hips. This seems to keep my hands in a place where I don't use them for leverage. I wonder htough, is this making the move easier or harder or turning the focus away from the abs?

Thoughts?

It's actually a position that is recommended to help support the lower back. I don't think it takes away from the ab focus at all.

Yep, I do that too because it makes my lower back feel so much better. I think my abs get the same workout, but it doesn't matter to me because it is so much easier on my back.

I do this on the P90X Ab Ripper workout. It seems to lower my "panic" threshold of worryong that I won't be able to finish te exercise, if that makes sense. I can do more if I do what you're doing.
