A word of warning to all the aspartame addicts...

This is not posted in order to argue but to state something that is on the other side of something Maverick said about chemo. I agree that it does "do something" to the body when used. BUT, my mother would have been dead better than 10 years ago had it not been for that option. She had breast cancer that was fairly advanced when found.

I agree that staying "natural" is the way to go and even when I am sick with a cold I do not take antibiotics. I do try to stay away from aspartame even though it is not completely proven to cause harm. I also stay away from caffeine...just a personal choice. I have to take thyroid medication or I would not be able to function.

So, I don't believe you can completely (in every case)stay away from things such as medication or additives. Everthing in moderation and you have to make decisions for your own personal situation.

Just a thought re: the chemical vs. natural debate. I think both elements have their place. For example, I must remain on the birth control pill, not to prevent pregnancy but to save my life! Without it I would not ovulate or have periods and eventually this can and does cause uterine cancer. I know, my sister ignored her symptoms until she was in 2nd stage uterine cancer. Also, I became pregnant and had my beloved twin boys with the use of fertility drugs which are a combination of natural hormones and synthetics. My point is I guess that I think there's room for argument for using both the synthetic and natural to achieve balance. As for aspartame and spenda and the like I think we must be cautious and use common sense. Remember Sweet N' Low. For years "they" said it gave you cancer and now they say no way. You know what? I don't think anyone really knows for sure about some of these things. I always think that sticking as close as we can to real food is the way to go. Thanks for letting me e-babble.

Another thing to think about in the aspartame issue is the fact that almost all sugar substitutes have encountered the same scare wars: the first that I remember was cyclamates (sp?) back in the late '60's; then the saccharin scare in the late '70's; and now the aspartame scare. The testing design of saccharin as a possible carcinogen was especially bizarre: done on rats, and I think it was determined that a person would have to dring 400 cans of diet soda a day to get the equivalent dosage the rats were getting.

I don't use aspartame in anything except my little 3-pink-packets in my morning coffee, and my few swigs of Crystal Light in the evening, so I doubt that that dosage is gonna trigger anything. But as everyone here agrees, everything in moderation.

BTW, speaking of natural . . . I've read that you can get high by licking the back of a specific breed of toad in the Southwest. Is that acceptable?

I believe that frog-licking would be an acceptable natural activity, provided that you don't grab the wrong frog and lick a poison dart frog (ie: instant death).

Also, as a vegan, I must ask that your activity be limited to licking, which would not harm the frog, and which might even pleasurable to him/her...no chewing!

Did you hear in the news a few days ago that pills increases the risk of getting cervical cancer BIG time? Pills may be good with some things but I think it does more harm. I stopped taking the Pills. It's not worth getting sick over. If I get sick, I get sick. I don't want to make myself sick.
By the way, congrats. on your twins. Is fertility drugs expensive? I don't know anything about it so I'm curious.
