I'm still in a bit of shock but wanted to let you know that our 13 year old black lab "puppy" Hampton had to be put down this morning. While there was absolutely no sign of odd behavior yesterday, this morning, just before giving him his vitamin and breakfast, we noticed severe swelling in his abdomen area and labored breathing. This appeared to be BLOAT, a life threatening condition which dogs can sometimes get, so we rushed him to the hospital. Unfortunately, by the time we arrived, his condition had rapidly advanced, his vital signs were VERY poor, and our oldest family member was weak and in severe distress. We did not want to see him suffer any longer.
Hampton was a wonderful doggie and lived a very good and long life. We will miss him dearly! I wish I could have witnessed the sheer joy on Dakota's face when Hampton walked across Rainbow Bridge today. I bet Dakota licked Hamptons ear the way he always did with his big ole' tongue and they probably played all morning. By now they had their naps and are romping in the fields again. Bless their little happy souls!
