A question about the Troy lite barbell

Right now I am using a barbell with the threaded ends, and I want to switch to the Troy lite. Can I just buy the bar and use the plates I already have? Or do you have to use the Troy bar exclusively with Troy plates? TIA, Pam

i believe our own pinky has mentioned she only bought the bar, but from which site she would have to tell you. but yes i believe you can just buy the bar

Yes, I did but just the bar from fitness1st.com. I already had some old plates and couldn't justify buying the whole Troy Lite set. I got more plates from Wal-Mart as my weight load got heavier.

If your plates are standard 1" plates, they will fit the Troy.

But if your plates aren't rubber-coated, like the Troy, you might want to pick up the Troy plates. They are SOoooo nice! My old, non-rubber-coated plates started to get rust on them (very humid here in summer). Also, Troy at least used to have 1.25# plates, which are nice for microloading (adding weight in small increments to make going up in weight easier), and would be nice to pick up (if they still make them).

I just bought the entire set, and it is well worth it, as the plates that come with it are encased with rubber. I really like it, and I plan on eventually buying ten pound plates for it.

Hey, just curious here...I saw this set on a website for $50.00. Does that seem right? It sounds like it should cost more, especially when you consider that body bars cost about that for just the bar alone.

Just wondering...

$50.00 is about right...BUT that cost does not include shipping...
