A nice gentle dish soap

I have a slightly weird question but probably not as weird as Melissa's dog question :7 :7 ;-)

Can anyone recommend a gentle dish soap (I don't own a dishwasher) that will not leave my containers and dishes tasting like soap? I have been using Dawn and Palmolive and I am fed up with my food and drink tasting like soap. Blech! Today's milk tastes like soap despite washing my Nalgene (which is not supposed to retain oder but does anyway) bottle with an itty bitty dash of soap and rinsing for what seems like an eternity. More moo juice down the drain. Yesterday's salad tasted like soap after the same kind of washing. I've even tried different types of containers (everything from the disposables to the over priced Tupperware) and soaps. Blech! Any ideas?

Seventh generation makes a line of non toxic dish and dishwasher detergents. I love them both. Give it a try.

Humm you must be very sensitive to the taste. I'm not sure if they make such a thing, but maybe you could try a perfume free one and see if that would work. I use Sunlight, and I can't taste it...but I never can.
Oh I do know one trick. Take your second sink (hopefully you have one) and fill it half to 3 quarters full with HOT water and one capful of bleach, after you wash your dishes let them soak on the water/bleach for 2 mins....then air dry. This is what they have to do in the restaurant industry if the dishwasher breaks down.
I do this with my kids sippy cups if they start to retain milk smell, and it gets rid of it. So that might work for you.
HTH!:D

I use and really like Caldrea - it's an all natural line and comes in amazing fragrances. (www.caldrea.com)
Also, Method - available at Target, makes good all-natural cleaning products.

I use Seventh generation Dish liquid lavender and ECOEVER Chamomile and Mrigold! I don't like Seventhe generation Dishwasher detergent! It leaves a white film on my dishes! I use Cascade! I hate using toxic!

Another vote for Seventh Generation. I'm using SG Free & Clear, mostly to hand wash my Nalgene bottles and coffe cups that I use every day, and I'm not noticing and residual soapy taste. It also seems to suds up pretty nicely.

Hopefully I can find this Seventh Generation in Hannaford.... in the organic section? I'll also try to Method---I like their stuff as well as the bleaching idea.

Well, I always just use plain old Ivory. But then, I have well water, and everything tastes like iron, so that probably cuts through the soap taste.

The bleach thing will defiantly get rid of any tastes or smells. I highly recommend it.

I used to use Seventh Generation, but it wouldn't remove an oily film on my Magic Bullet cups after I made smoothies. I changed to "Earth Friendly" brand "Ultra Dishmate" and it removes the film and doesn't leave an after odor/taste. I used to buy it in the local health-food store, but I found it for less at a local Rural King (farm supply store).

I like Mrs. Meyer's lavender dish soap. You can pick it up at a health food store. It makes doing dishes by hand a damn pleasure.
