A new Peak Fit Cardio Strength....

For all of you Michelle Dozois fans and those fans of Peak Fit...

I just saw this yesterday that she is coming out with 3 new workouts....

A new Peak Fit Cardio Strength, Cardio Interval Burn and a third one...which I forgot the name of....but it looks interesting. I will get the new Cardio Strength for sure and probably the one I forgot the name of too :eek: But the Cardio Interval Burn I won't get...I have so much plain cardio stuff!

Now, for the life of me I cannot figure out why she decided to call this new series "Remix" because it is not a remix of old videos but whole new workouts!!! Someone should have caught that...because at first I thought she was just taking segments of her old ones and putting them together to form a new dvd.

Also, she is having a bit of a pre-sale...but what's the point of a pre-sale without a good amount off the price? If you get just 1 or 2 of them you get nothing off...if you get all 3, you get 10% off. Whoopdeedoo! It really does not entice me to get it early... But I will get them! I don't like to be critical...but I just don't understand some of the thinking behind this. I guess I am used to the way Cathe does things....such as having a pre-sale where it's worth your while! Still, I really like Michelle and wish her the best.

Also, my fav is the Cardio Strength they are so good, combining tough cardio with weights, which always works best for me....

I was all ready to get Cardio Interval Burn Remix since I have and love Peak 10 More Cardio Interval Burn. Then I saw the clips on Collage and was underwhelmed by the pure cardio one and was surprised at how interested I was in the Cardio Strength clip. I'm going to wait for a longer clip at Mary's site, but I am leaning towards just getting Cardio Strength.

The third one is called Body360.

I find that there's not a lot of "strength" going on with these DVDs. Michelle moves so darned fast, she's constantly switching up the moves, I keep finding that the weight I had at the start of the move was just fine, but then she goes and changes it after, say, 3 reps, and the weight is no longer a good one, so I have to keep pausing the DVD to pick up a different one....etc, etc, and on it goes. After she does what she calls "strength" for a minute, she then drops it and goes back to pure cardio again for the actual peak climbs, so I find the DVD title something of a misnomer. There's not enough repetition of each move for any kind of strength building to be going on.

I find these DVDs endlessly frustrating and cannot use them. I also dislike her brand of cardio, which is basically nothing more than a return to hi-lo, and I don't want to be doing all the jumping up and down constantly.

When I want a metabolic burn type DVD ("cardio strength"), I go to Kelly Coffey Meyer, Cathe, Toby Massenburg, Patrick GOudeau, Paul Katami, Mike Donavanik. They al do this type of workout so much better than Michelle. Sorry for all those who love these and swear by them. But.

I just had to check these out. Patrick Goudeau and Mike Donavanik look like something I might want to try. How advanced are they compare to Cathe?

They compare favourably. They'll make you sweat just like Afterburn, Athletic Step, Crossfire, etc. You can check out clips on totalfitnessdvds.com and if you use coupon code 10off you'll get 10% discount. Mary is a great person, she accepts returns if you hate DVD.

Speaking of Patrick Goudeau, I was thinking about getting Extreme Calorie Burn when I get the new Michelle Dozois. Do you have that one? What do you think of it?

I'm also a fan of Mike D. I don't have his latest one, but the workout of his that I do have is great (the 2nd DVD, can't remember the title right now).

I really like Michelle's Peak 10 workouts and her PeakFit system. There is something of a dread factor at times because they are so @#$%& hard--but they definitely do the job. I will be getting these new ones for sure!

I have never tried Mike D, but I have his workouts on my Amazon wishlist. I think I will get at least one if his the same time I order Michelle's new workouts.

I sort of know what you mean, Clare. I've got the first two (Cardio Interval Burn and Peak Strength). I'm always planning to do them but they gather dust and never quite make it into a workout week. For me, the main thing is they're too long and there are no premixes. I love stuff like TTM, AB, AT, CRF so I'm not afraid of working hard. Also I don't want to repeat five minute chunks. I know there's some repetition in those Cathe ones, but the sections aren't as long so it doesn't feel so bad. I think if the format were tweaked just a bit they'd be great. I don't think I'll be buying any more.

I completely understand someone not like a workout...However I have to say that while I am not a huge fan of Cardio Interval Burn because to me it's just another cardio workout....I like and have done Cardio Strength and More Cardio Strength many, many times and in every workout and with every set she is very careful to do at least 6 to 8 reps on every side each time. There are not "3-reppers". Maybe it seems that way because you find it so frustrating

Obviously, personally, I think they are good workouts and yes, she does move quickly, but honestly, sometimes Cathe moves so quickly too in between changes that I have to stop the dvd to catch up with her. I just did one of her workouts on this May 2013 rotation where I was scrambling to get what I needed (I can't remember which one...the days blend together!!!)...and I love Cathe!

Again, we all have preferences....just thought I would give my perspective!

Best wishes

Jen,
I totally relate with the dread factor because they are so tough!

Hi Tracey:

multiple perspectives are great!

I couldn't classify these workouts as tough because the frustration level is too high for me to get much out of them. C'est la vie......

Enjoy them once you get them,

Clare

I feel that the cardio strength workouts are more metabolic weight training than pure strength workouts--in the Afterburn tradition. I find the cardio strength ones very hard. Since you use a set of light and a set of heavy dumbbells, I use 8 and 12 pound dumbbells and sometimes they seem too heavy! But I stick with them and never have to pause or change weights in the middle of a block.

In her program PeakFit Challenge (since it's been re-issued she has altered the name--but I bought it the first time it came out and that was the name), the rotation calender has you doing cardio strength workouts the day before and/or the day after a pure strength workout--so she clearly considers the cardio strength workouts MWT, too.

I find the cardio strength much harder than the cardio interval workouts. "Base camp" is the recovery period. It is short, but in the cardio interval workouts it is a real recovery--of maybe 15 seconds, but recovery nonetheless. In cardio strength workouts? In your "recovery" you immedately grab dumbbells and just do a slower or modified version of the strength move you will be doing in the "ascent." So it feels like an hour of non-stop intense cardio.

Just writing this post is motivating me to want to pop in a Peak workout again! I've been doing nothing but Cathe workouts for almost a year--I need to start mixing things up.

I know what you mean Jen...I have been on a "Cathe-fest" this last little while (except for my Horizontal Conditioning)...but yesterday I actually did Ilaria Montagnani's Powerstrike 5 and it was really good and I actually sweated. Cathe is definitely great and my fav...but it is good to change it up a bit!
