Our department just hired a 22 year old part-time intern and yesterday was her first day. It was also my day off, so I wasn't at work. The IT department has not received the intern's new computer yet, so our director set the intern up in my office. OFFICE - not a cubicle. Now, not to sound as though I have any sort of power trip going, but when you see an office of cubicles with actual door-supplied offices on the perimeter, don't you think that those people inside the offices are a bit more powerful than those in the cubicles? (I'm not saying that I actually think of myself as more powerful, because I'm not and I have no delusions that I'm better than anyone in the cubicles. Well, maybe one of them...) Anyway, if I was a 22 year old who didn't know anyone, I would DEFINITELY have a little respect.
I came in this morning and immediately noticed that my office had been used. The shade on my window was drawn all the way down. That's a little pet peeve I have - if you use my office, leave stuff ALONE! Then I turned my radio on and after a few minutes, I realized it was playing the completely wrong genre for my station. That little miss-all-that changed my radio station!!!!! If I was using someone else's office, especially someone whom I've never met, I wouldn't even turn the radio on, much less change the station!
The only saving grace to this is that I have one of those auras about me that is unintentionally intimidating to people who don't know me. I don't know what it is, because I'm friendly and am actually very laid back. So, I know that she'll be scared of me when she meets me. But unless she's super cool, I'm not going to make any effort to make her feel less intimidated. Change my radio station...grrrrrr!!!!
