A-jock--5 disc player question

I'm interested in buying one of these and don't have a CLUE where to find one so I can start doing some mish-moshes. I actually got to "meet" you on the trip through the pics that Joanne brought--so nice to meet another Minnesotan(even though I live in FL now)--I miss my midwest people.
Trust me, I still remember my MN colds, FL ones aren't much better:)
Hope you're feeling better!

Mary;)

Hi, Mary! Glad to meet a former-fellow-Minnesotan (I think). Kind of a weird reversal: I grew up in Florida and moved to Minnesota (for which most people think I shoulda been committed) and you grew up in MN and moved to Florida (much more understandable).

As far as 5-disc players go, I got a Sony 5-disc player back in December 2002, so it's a fossil by now. I'm sure they've upgraded many times since then; in fact, I seem to recall on the Video Discussion forum someone mentioning a FOUR-HUNDRED-DISC player. (The potential mish-moshes for that one boggle the mind.)

My suggestion is, go online at Sony and Toshiba and just do a search for DVD players, and I'm sure you'll come up with some good options. They are much cheaper than what I paid (grrr). And/Or go to any big-box gizmo joint like Best Buy or Circuit City (if they have CC's in Florida) or similar store and ask any sales person.

This should not be too hard to find. Good luck, and happy mish-moshing!

Yep, we've got both Best Buy and CC here, so I'm going to hit the internet to look for the best deals.
I'll let you know how "happy" I am with your mish-moshes, they sound pretty killer, so as "happy" as I am, my body will be SCREAMING--LOLOLOLOL

If it weren't for the weather, I'd move back to MN in a minute. Being from Eden Prairie, I've been raised as a Vikings(bad season this year, sheesh) and Gophers(dad, brother and hubby went there--how 'bout that win over Michigan, WOW)fan so I'm keeping my MN roots--LOL.

I think your cold would do better here--it's 77 here in Palm Beach, COME ON DOWN:)

Thanks for all you help!!

Mary:D

How do you know a player will play the Cathe DVDS, Iknow some DVD players have trouble with them? I have asked for a 5 disc player for Chistmas and I want to be sure to steer DH in the right direction.

Hi Mary,

I'm obviously not A-jock (but a loyal follower;)) . About 6 months ago I bought a 5 disc player on eBay. It's a Sony DVP-NC665P. I only paid 46 bucks and minimal shipping costs for it. It was new and still in the box with everything included (even the batteries for the remote!). I think it had been a floor model at one time.

If you do go the eBay route make sure you read the description carefully to ensure that you are also bidding on the remote, the manual, the cords and the player. There are many people who sell just the player and you have to find the other components on your own. Also make sure that the description says that it's working. Some people actually sell broken electronics and it's up to the bidder to get it fixed.

You can create a favorite search in eBay and you can take an option to have them email you when something fitting your description comes up for sale. Before I started bidding I also put a few of the players up for bid on my watch list and kept track of what people ended up paying for them. When I did start bidding, there were a few players I let go by when the price started going higher than what the market had been paying.

Hope this helps.

One thing I like about my Sony Fossil is that not only can you program across discs (the instructions for that have always defeated me), but you can also do your own quick-and-dirty mish-mosh programs each workout by loading all the discs you want into the tray, cycling through them and "marking" the point on each disc where you want it to start and just hitting the "play" button when you've lined them all up. (Weirdly enough, the DVD player "remembers" where you marked each disc for about 5 to 7 days.) This is especially helpful when you want a disc to start in the middle (or wherever) of a chapter as opposed to the beginning of the chapter.

I must confess I am as big a fossil as my DVD player, so what I've recited above is probably a standard feature on ALL players. Please bear with me. However, I will say I have never had a problem with my Cathe DVD's in this player, and my player is ONLY used for my workouts. (Sorry, DH.)

And just in passing - I'm having too good a time watching the Vikings embarrass themselves OFF the playing field with that whole (IMHO grossly overblown but highly entertaining) Love Boat thing to think about their games. (I'm not a pro sports fan, obviously.)

A-jock--you are TOO funny!!
My husband calls me "bandwagon Mary"--aka I'm a Vikings fan when they're winning and not as big a one when they're not.

I'm going to start perusing Ebay--very good idea AND the internet to see what I can come up with.

BTW--that whole loveboat thing was STUPID, first Randy Moss and his antics(too bad he's so talented but seems to like getting himself in trouble, don't know how the Raiders are liking him)and now the boat thing--SHEESH!!

Thanks to you both for all of the info!!!

Mary
