A Groin injury ?

Bernard

Cathlete
Hi Everyone,

I am just wondering if anyone has any advice about groin injuries ? I think I have one, but I am seeing my Doctor next week, so I guess I'll know more then. About 3 weeks ago, I was lowering myself onto the floor to chat to my Sister on the phone, and something just went in my right inner thigh. It was agony, and the following couple of days were painful. Then it didn't hurt for a while, for about 2 weeks. I've been walking daily in this time but have avoided exercise in general. This week the pain in my right inner thigh (which is right under my hips, right at the top of my inner thigh) has been really bad, to the point where I can't lie on my right side at night :(

In the meantime, until I see my Doctor, I am wondering if anyone out there has suffered with something similar ? How long until it heals ? My new Cathe vids are due to arrive at the end of the week, and I think the only thing I'll be able to do is watch them :( I am worried I may not be able to do work outs ever again ;(

Thanks for reading, and any advice would be great :)

While running one day (just cause i was late!) i hurt my hip flexor. Ouch the pain. Pulled something. Pain went away and then came back... what did i do. Gentle stretching. Daily. At first it didn't help (or so i thought) but the more i did (gentle, gentle, gentle) the better it got. Sometimes it still bothers me, but hardly anything like before and doesn't stop me from doing Cathe anymore. Have you tried ice? That usually helps and stops the bleeding (if there is any). Let me know what the doc says... thinking of you x

Hi, Anna, my groin acts up at times and it is just awful! I have lots of problems with my feet and wear orthotics and have done every type of treatment and therapy to correct the problem. While this may not be the case with you, it bears looking into because feet problems can lead to a myriad of troubles all over your body. Look into leg length descrepancy. Until you see your doc, you minght rest and ice the area and strengthen hip flexors, inner and outer thigh muscles once the pain is gone.

Hi Wayne and Bobbi,

Thanks for all your advice, sorry its taken me ages to get back, been really ill :(
I am still resting my right thigh, I saw my Doc today, and she advised me not to workout for 6-8 weeks from when the injury happenned. Then to start off with 'gentle' workout, and if I feel ANY pain to abstain for another 4 weeks. I described what I did and it sounds like I have torn the muscle (worse luck ;( ). In the meantime, she advised me to use ice and/or warmth, and I have been using an aromatherapy blend of oils to help ease discomfort. So far so good :)

Many Thanks

Anna :)

I've had the same problem as you... About a year ago, it happened the first time... a groin muscle AND a hip flexor at the same time... Yuck. The first time it took one month flat to heal while going to a chiropractor 3 days a week for various treatments (thank goodness for insurance). Very fast... and I was running better than I ever had in my life... Then about 3 months later, i did it again... to my other hip flexor it took over 2 months that time, and it bothers me still. I have run very very little since for that reason. Advice I was given was to ice it when you work out, don't OVERSTRETCH. That will make it worse. Stretch gently and then massage gently if it's tight.
I hope it heals soon. Those kinds of injuries are very annoying :(

Anna,
HANG IN THERE!!! How are yo feeling?? Groin injuries are bad ones...The good part is that once they are healed, you will not have to deal with it for the rest of your life unlike something such as tendonitis. So, hang in there!! NFL players can play on broken bones and sprained ankles, but when they have a groin or hamstring pull - they are completely sidelined. It is just an area we need for every movement we make.

So, I wish you a fast and healthy recovery! Now is a great time to reflect on how amazing you are! Here's to your healing.
