*77

my dad sent me this email that if u r driving and a car tries to stop you and has no markings on his car that he is a cop dial *77 on your cell phone for a state trooper. there was a short story about a woman calling *77 instead of being pulled over. the man was a convicted rapist. the cops came and surrounded his car.

According to Snopes.com it is not true that dialing #77 will connect you to a state trooper. If this is not true I would hate to feel safe having a cell phone thinking I could dial #77 in an emergency and get help or send it to anyone.

I don't know how accurate Snopes.com is, but I try to look up things when I have a doubt about them.

If you are driving and any car tries to stop you DO NOT EVER STOP! Keep going. I know a girl that was gang-raped that way, and I am not kidding.

If it's a cop, he'll have special lights to flag you down, or he'll call a marked car.

i assume you can call law enforcement or even 911 to be sure? there are numbers you can dial(have seen signs on major highways) but i think it differs state to state. so this has partly true but whether its actually *77 might be relative to the area you live in.

I read this too, and according to snopes, in some places *77 connects you to the highway patrol, but in other places it's another number. The snopes entry went on to say that 911 is the number to call in this kind of situation.
