Good Morning Fellow Fitness Lovers!

Just getting us started! I'm finishing my coffee and am anxiously getting ready to go do Disc 13 and use my new TOWER!! Yippee Yikes!

So....with that said...I'm off and will check back later!

Jo enjoy that new tower! I'm excited to see what you think!

Rachael I"m so glad that you have a few days to recover!!

Cendrine Is your brother still there? Did you decide on any new workouts?

I did the first workout from the third phase of Chalean and it was definitely harder than the other workouts ( and a little longer). DH and ds are at hockey so waiting to hear what happens. DD and I are going to a wedding shower for a cousin of DH's that I really don't know that well. But I feel obligated to go for awhile. Nice to have dd to take along for company.

Chapter 7: Amping Up the Neurons.

Short review of this chapter because I'm not sure if I understand it all:eek::eek:

-When we eat food rich in sugar, fat, and salt, we stimulate neurons, which are the basic cells of the brain.
-neurons communicate with each other to create feelings, store info and control behaviour.
-neurons respond to rewarding foods by firing electrical signals and releasing brain chemicals
-a single food can also stimulate many different neurons. For example one set of neurons may fire at its sugary taste while another fires in response to its creamy texture, and still another is provoked by its aroma
-the cumulative effect of all this is that sensory stimluli (sight, smell, texture, taste) canuse the neurons to fire more and the message to eat becomes stronger.

-the most powerful sense is taste but sight and smells of food also motivate us to eat.
-Taste is the only sense that is hardwired to brain cells that respond to pleasure. It prompts the strongest emotional response.
-when we put a highly palatable food in our mouths, taste buds in the tongue respond by sending a signal to an area of the lower brain . When the lower brain receives that signal, it activates the neural circuity that contain natural opioid molecules. The opioid circuits enable the body to perceive a rewarding experience. From the lower brain, the sensory experience of taste travels though the midbrain, reaching regions where the sensory signals of food are integrated and relayed to an area of the brain that is a center of reward.
-the opioids prodcued by eating high-sugar, high-fat foods can relieve pain or stress and calm us down. In the short run, they make us feel better,we see this in infants who cry less when given sugar water.

Hey Yall:D

I am finally getting to relax and it feels great!
Today my brother and him 2 kids came for an early dinner or a late lunch...Whichever. It was not too healthy at all but since I have been living on sandwiches for dinner and soups from the hospital cafeteria for lunch, I thought I would splurge a little. We had Paula Deen fried chicken mashed potatoes and green beans with gravy and whole wheat rolls <----I know. But it was all so worth every caloric bite.! Tomorrow I am back on the workout train starting with Gym Style legs. How was that one Cendrine, seeing as how you just did it?

I am looking forward to the doms I hope to have tomorrow.

Kim- How did the hockey thing turn out?

Jo-Tower, thumbs up or thumbs down? Or do I really need to ask? Where did it end up living in you house? Hopefully in front of the tv you workout with.

OK...I am off to spend some time out side with the dogs. I missed them so much and one is getting old so I feel like I need to spend all the time I can with him.

Have a great Sunday evening.

Rachel

Okay, remember how I wrote that location can be a cue to make you desire a food even when your not hungry. So is that why everytime I sit down to watch tv I want something salty like popcorn and chips?

And I always want something sweet with my afterdinner coffee while watching the news.

But how do I break those habits?

Hi Guys,

it was rest day for me today but did feel doms from doing pure strenght legs on Saturday... so even though I didn't feel my best that day I must have worked it right... Sorry, Rachael, I don't have Gym style, you confused it with pure strength which is what I just did. Gym style is on my wish list.
I'm glad you get some time for resting and recovering from your marathon work schedule! Enjoy!

Jo, are you still alive after using the tower...?LOL! We all want to know how you liked it!
Thanks by the way for all the info on the Kindle, sure sounds like a fun and useful gadget! I'll have to check into it some more!

Kim, any news yet from your son and what team he made?
My brother left today with his friend who arrived yesterday from vegas. They were off to san fransisco and will be back here in a week to fly back. I'm honestly glad the visit is over. I don't make a good host for people who stay over. I love to host when people leave at the end of the event and I am also getting more and more aware of some boundary issues my brother has that I am not quite sure how to address... All that said, the kids had a blast with him but I am glad to have the house to myself again...
My brother did want to get me a gift card from Cathe but ended up giving me cash. I am going to wait to order until I have enough for free shipping... I can't help it, I just always try to get away without paying shipping if I can!

The location thing and eating is definitely something I get too. Breaking it is going to take a lot of hard self talking... I only read a summary of your book in the magazine but the points that were given, none of them were easy... This could be a challenge we could do together, when you get to it and if you are interested.

Okay...GET IT BUY IT I LOVE IT! What a difference it made having this wonderful wonderful piece of equipment! Uh...did you get that that is a big

!!! Okay, where am I putting it? I dunno! I just kind of keep moving it around the bedroom and maybe if I keep it out of DH's way he won't notice it's still there! :p:cool: We actually have a landing on the stairs that can't be seen from the living room, so I may put it there but I know DH will complain and then I have to move it up and down one flight of stairs each workout. But it only weighs 30lbs. There's nothing but our room and dressing area on the top floor so no one would see it.

I didn't get back to post earlier as we ended up going to Costco and besides loading up on fruits and vegetables...bought new queen mattress for the guest bedroom. So then came home and ended up moving bedroom furniture, washing bedding, cleaning baseboards, vacuuming...you know the drill. Then I made kale soup which has now become Jo's Tuscan Fish Soup with Kale! DELICIOUS! I put chunks of cooked cod in at the end.

Back to my workout...well...I used the same workout card from our original beginning week with Meso 2. I made it through chest but struggled a little; had to drop weight on all the shoulder exercises and dropped weight on one of the tricep exercises. I think next week I'll be back up to where I was, but having been inconsistent over the last month has taken a little toll! I'm not disappointed or disillusioned! And, just like the first time we did Disc 13, I could barely get my arms over my head to blow dry my hair after my shower!

Kim, thanks for continuing to post the book info! I'm really enjoying it! So do you think this next phase of Chalean will be better? Or, just harder? What happened with ds?

Cendrine, I'm with you on having people stay. It can get taxing and it's nice to get back to your regular scheduled programming! :D:D Glad you got DOMS! I know I'll have them tomorrow!

Rachel, oh my gosh! Paula Deen fried chicken!! I can only imagine how good that must have been! At DH family reunion this year, one of his aunts made a Paula Deen ooey gooey dessert and I could only eat a 1/2" square but it was the most decadent and delicious dessert I've ever had!

Oh one last thing about the Tower - I'm anxious to see how it works for me for the pull-up/chin-ups since I was using the tubing with door attachment before. Stay tuned....that workout will be Thursday! :D
