6 Month STS Alumni - week of December 13

Runcrazy

Cathlete
Hi Everyone! I'm off to do more Xmas shopping today (hoping to finish today!)

I did Drill Max Scrambled Cardio premix this morning.

Off to the shower - just wanted to get us started!

Hope everyone is having a good day!

I actually slept in till almost 9 this morning and I feel so full of energy. I did the first workout from the December rotation today and it felt great. I really think we all needed that time to sleep in.

Cendrine You must have grown up with similiar temperatures to Canada? What I do is run outside and start the car then let it run 10 minutes before we go anywhere so we don't have to be in the cold long. We have the cars plugged in so the batteries don't die. We have fairly new cars so no trouble with them starting, thank goodness. DH and I did run a few quick errands now we're staying inside the rest of the day.

Good for you for adjusting your eating habits since you're not working out. I know that's something I've had trouble with in the past. When I was marathon training, it's amazing the amount of food that I ate and then after I finished I still kept eating that amount. The snowmen sound cute! Are you doing lots of holiday baking?

Jo A laptop sounds like a great Christmas present! I would like to look at one in the next few months especially as the kids are on the computer so much more often. The Christmas cards always seem like such a big job to me, it's always a sigh of relief when they are done. Hope you finish your shopping today!

Kim

Hi Guys,

we had a busy day at church today. The church that our church rented space from lost their building because they were not able to make payments, so we had to pack up everything in the building to move to a new facility. At the same time it was Christmas parties in every classroom and I had to fit all the kids for their costumes for next weeks Christmas play, while they were all practicing on the stage.... I'm glad it's done now and I have a little break.

Jo, I will have to talk to dh about any plans he may have had on Monday, though I doubt he had any...LOL But please don't come back on Sunday just because of me! I don't want to make the Christmas time more stressful than it has to be! But if all works out we could have coffee somewhere at the mall or something.

Kim, temps in Switzerland in the area I grew up in didn't ever seem to go below maybe - 15 C°, that is a lot warmer than what you have to deal with... Of course I'm sure closer to the mountains it would be colder too, but I lived in the flat part, so it was relatively mild. Switzerland does not have battery plug ins and all that. Does your car have seat warmers? My inlaws got me a nice car that has seatwarmers and I just bet it would be heaven in Canada! I even use it here.... I'm glad you woke up with so much energy, I'm longing to get back to that kind of waking up myself! I don't want to rush it though, because I definitely want to do STS with all of you in January.

Good Sunday afternoon everyone!!!

I hope you are all staying warm esp. Kim and Jo. I just can not imagine temperatures like that! I guess to look at it one way though yall do get all that beautiful scenery! It did not get to 70 today like the weather girl predicted...I do not think it even got up to 60 but that it t-shirt weather for yall and here I set in my sweats.

For the next 2 weeks I am going to concentrate on my legs. I think it is the April '08 rotation...I seem to have a way more defined upper body than lower body and I am going to see what concentrating more down there gets me. I think there is only one upper body workout per week not counting the kickboxing so I am going to see how it goes and if I like it that is how I will finish out the year and hopefully we will have our new workouts for the new year!

I think I am finished christmas shopping. It seems like no matter how hard I tried I just could not get done and then today I got up early to beat the horrible town traffic and just put my nose to the grindstone and got it finished! I love buying people presents ,I just am not very good at it if that makes any sense. It takes me forever to figure out what to get them. I do think I am done though so that makes me happy. Now all I have to concentrate on is baking and not tasting! So that will be next weekend.

Jo-How did your Christmas shopping go? I hope you got finished because Oh what a feeling!!!I too have to do cards. I got the cutest cards at target...They have a snowman frowning and a weeny dog walking away and the snow man has been peed on...The caption on the inside says "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas" I just love that! I can not wait for you to share some of your photos...I am a sucker for beautiful snow.

Kim-Like Cendrine I do not think I could go out in weather like that. If it got below 0 here everything would probably shut down. If it threatens to snow that shut the school down! There yall are just going about your daily lives as if it is normal temps and conditions...You northerners are so tough!

Cendrine-Smart thinking getting to get rid of all the goodies! I have a tough time not trying a little of everything I bake and by the end it is a fat fiasco!
It is terrible that your church lost their place due to payment. It amazes me that another church is the renter and can not show some compassion at least through the holiday! I think that is terrible.
You are a Jack of all Trades...even helping make costumes too...You are so crafty.

Oh I forgot...LOVED SJP all the way through. It was my first time for that and it was a lot of fun. Of course I am rythmically challenged but nobody was watching so who cares!

This is my week of workouts...

Mon.-IMAX the original
Tues-Butts and Guts
Wed-PUB
Thurs-PLB
Fri-Low max
Sat-KickMax

So wish me luck!

Have a great Sunday evening...I think I am going to find a good old Christmas movie to watch!

See you tomorrow
Rachel

Rachel, I'm so glad you got all your shopping done! And those Christmas cards sound cute!

I usually do a bunch of baking, since I usually give all the neighbors a plate of assorted homemade treats, but this year I just felt low energy about it so it's not happening this year. I am however planning on making a couple of batches of dh's favorite ginger bread cookies, which is great because those are not a temptation for me...LOL!

Oh, and by the way, our church did not get kicked out by the other church, the other church got kicked out because they could not pay their creditors, and we were renting space from the church, thus we had to go, since they had to go, and we have known for a year that we were going to have to leave, they just decided not to move out until they absolutely had to, and now a new buyer has come forward for the facility, so they want to move in...

But it is not so bad, our church found another chruch to rent from and the two churches' schedules work well together, so it's not bad and we start there next Sunday. It is more of a drive though, I kind of got used to the short drive...

Cendrine, not meaning to put any pressure on the Monday thing! To be honest, I would like to come home for a day! I guess we'll wait and decide based on weather. If we leave from mom's, it's a 12-13 hour drive; if we leave from here it's 8-9. Of course, either way, we have to go over 3 mountain passes. Last time DH and I did it from mom's we hit a terrible snow storm over 2 of the passes and ended up getting there at 2 in the morning - it tooks us 15 hours. Anyway, we can play it by ear...if we're here and you're there and available, we can do it! I guess I'll know next week.

So...yes, I finished shopping today except for DH! And, I know there's couple of things he wants that we can just order on-line. Whew...I'm glad to be done! I'm with you Rachel, I love to buy presents but have a hard time figuring it all out! I'm excited about a couple of presents I got people because I came across items I know they'll be really excited about! For example, I didn't know until this last year that my sister really loves anything with butterflies. I found these beautiful hand blown glass magnets and a paperweight with butterflies in them (not real ones!). I know she'll be excited to get these! They're beautiful!

Kim, I'll bet if felt good to get back into the swing of things with your workout! I thought of you today when I saw some runners. They looked cold but happy! :D Okay, Xmas cards are next....

Rachel, your workout sounds great for the week! I have a rotation (on my other computer somewhere) that I used to do for targeting my legs and I always got results. If I can ever get to it, I'll share it. You are going to have some happy legs!

Cendrine, speaking of cookies. Your post reminded me I'm supposed to make cookies for cookie exchange later this week. Ughh...when will I do that? I'll bet you had fun working with the kids! Sounds like a good time!

Oh, and I bought myself these cool gloves. I'm one that gets really cold (I'm part reptile). Anyway, went to sporting goods store (REI) to get big gloves (for snowshoeing, etc.) for my step son. I found these gloves for me that are waterproof/windproof/lightweight and fleece lined. They are really cool. I have really heavy gloves but they are bulky when trying to shovel snow, etc. These will be good for doing things like shoveling, or walking or whatever! They also stretch so fit very snug and are targeted for outdoor winter sports. I'm excited - it's a little present to me! I ended up getting me, DH and SS all a pair and then I also got SS the pair I originally went to get him!

When I got home I seeded 3 pomegranites. I bought a box of 9 at Costco. I LOVE them and put them on my oatmeal and salads when they are in season. Okay, off to relax a little. Last thing, I made myself a delicious salad (everyone had eaten when I got home) with romaine, kale, yellow peppers, onions, tomato, walnuts, grapes, clementines and pomegranite and of course, pico de gallo for dressing! Oh and of course...the most important ingredient - black beans!:D:p

Talk to you all tomorrow!

Okay, since Rachel posted her workouts, here's what I'm going to do this week (inspired by Rachel!):

Sun: Drill Max Scrambled Cardio Premix
Mon: Butts & Guts
Tues: PUB down premix, 4DS LIS
Wed: Low Max
Thur: Rest
Fri: Muscle Max
Sat: Imax Xtreme

Okay, now that I finally have that figured out, I'm off to bed!

Good Monday Morning Everyone!

I am a rock I tell you! I was a machine this morning as I plowed through Butts and Guts! I WILL be feeling it! I know this for a fact as I had to take the elevator this morning at work as I could no longer move my legs up the stairs (this with carrying my laptop, lunch, snacks, water, 20 lb purse, etc.).

It is a balmy 38 degrees out! I'm so happy we finally got above freezing! Okay, lots of work to do! Just wanted to check in!

Have a good day everyone!

Hi, my part reptile friend! LOL! I think we must be related! Sounds like you were a busy little elf yesterday! I got some progress to report as well, all the gifts that I can think of are wrapped and labelled, I enlisted ds to stuff all the envelopes with the Christmas cards and had him put return labels on the envelopes. I finished the Christmas letter and need to print, fold and put them in the appr envelopes with the cards, then ds can stick address labels on (as soon as I print them) and seal the envelopes as well as put stamps on. This is the first year I have been able to get him to help with stuff like this, it is quite a time saver!

Rachel, how are your legs today?

Kim, what workouts are you going to do this week? I'm so glad that I'm finally catching up with you as far as Christmas readiness goes...!

I have more therapy at the chiropractor today, looking forward to it, since the wrapping of the presents wasn't easy to do with good posture... as I'm sure you all know from experience!

Good afternoon guys!

It sounds like everyone has been real productive...I bet Kim is wondering what took us so long since she was done with Christmas a month ago:p;)

DH and I had a great day at work. It is always nice when things do not turn out bad. We knew this one was coming up and it is sort of a repair because they have had moisture problems in the slab. DH was dreading it and I just kept telling him that it might not be as bad as he thinks and what do you know...I was right!:p We are having no trouble and flying through it so we might even be done tomorrow or early Wednesday. That would just be great!

This morning was IMAX and boy I had to talk my body into it. I guess because I am in the middle of TTOTM and I feel a little tickle in my throat, that I am just a little tired but I pressed through it and gave it more than I had to give so that is all that counts. Tomorrow I will get to do butts and guts so I will be right behind you Jo.

Jo-Your work out this week looks good too. So now I am going to have maybe throw that one on the last week of December. We will see. I can not decide if I was to take a week off before we start our sts thing or not...Decisions decisions!
The gloves sound like something I would like. Even down here, my hands are always freezing!

Cendrine-Glad to hear you are out of the baking duties. I love to do it but I am low on time this year so I am a little stressed over it. I feel like the people in the office kind of expect because I have done it for so many years in a row. If I can not get to it this weekend I am going to forgo it.
How was therapy? I hope things are progressing for you. Iforgot to ask why yall are going to Seattle?

Ok I am off to eat dinner and enjoy the little extra time I have!

Have a great night!

Rachel

Just finished Body Max 2 cardio only. I'm really enjoying this December rotation, I'm glad that I decided to do it.

It's still minus a million here. Super cold, a little west of us they set an all time low with minus 58 Celsius. I was talking with some patients that were down from Whale Harbour up in the Arctic (Inuit people) and they were complaining about how cold it was here:rolleyes::rolleyes: This frigid arctic mass (as they call it on the news) is supposed to break on Thursday so keeping fingers crossed. I park about 2 blocks from the hospital and goodness, it was a painful walk. It was so cold that the car radio was frozen and wouldn't work.

Cendrine How sweet that ds is helping you with the Christmas cards! DH was supposed to be stuffing the envelopes for me on the weekend and then he realized that I was sending cards to my cousins who we have a fun rivalry with as our cities are big football rivals. Then he started writing silly football things on the christmas cars so he wasn't much help!
What a busy time at your church especially right around Christmas! Are you kids in the Christmas play? Are they doing the Christmas story?
(Oh, yes I love the seat warmers, most people here have remote car starters but I haven't got one yet)

Rachael So if you finish the job by Wednesday do you get a few days off?? This will be my baking week as well, we just have lots of family get togethers over Christmas so nice to have some stuff in the freezer and the kids will need stuff for the school parties.Yay, at getting the Christmas shopping done, what a nice sigh of relief for you!

Jo What kind of gloves are they? I have really been wanting to buy a pair of sheepskin gloves, they're so nice and warm but so expensive. I've bought them for gifts but never for myself. Good for you for getting that shopping done. It sounds like everyone will be baking this week.

My coworker bought Cathe's 4DS and did bootcamp for the first time this week. She was very impressed with Cathe and couldn't believe the weight that Cathe lifts. SHe was complaing of sore biceps today.

Rachel,

I'm glad your workday was a good one! And good job pushing through it for the workout!

I know what you mean about others coming to expect something because you have done it for so long... I feel that way too and some years it just doesn't feel like keeping with the 'program', right?

About Seattle, we are going there because dh's family lives up that way, gonna spend Christmas with them.

By the way, Jo, I checked with dh, Monday is fine for us if you end up being in town, but like you said, don't bend over backwards to make it happen, if you're in town that would be fun, if not, we'll catch you next time!

Kim, I didn't mean to ignore you! I didn't see that the page had already switched to two pages so I missed your post when I wrote...

Remote car starters! What a great idea, and what will they think of next? Remote radio defrosters, I'm sure.... wow, you had towalk 2 blocks in that weather? I bet it hurts to breathe, right? Get yourself some nice gloves for your own present or manipulate someone into getting them for you..., you will definitely be putting them to good use!
The kids are in the Chrsitmas play, dd is an angel singing a lullaby to baby Jesus, the little ones are just adorable, and ds and his age group are shepherds singing silent night with handmotions, then older groups do the rest of the story. It looks like a nice production, last year's was a lot less thought through.
I'm glad you like the rotation, maybe I'll use part of it to get back in shape before STS if I actually have time to get back in shape before STS, that is....

Here's a link to the gloves - read the comment from the review!

http://www.rei.com/product/758402

If the link doesn't work, cut and paste it! After reading the comment, I'm even happier!

Kim, you need these if you're going to walk in frigid weather!!! LOL!

Cendrine, hopefully the weather will be warmer when you're here! (I'm sure it will be but you'll need a coat!) You need these too!

Rachel, you should have these "just in case!" LOL!

Well poop! Grrrrrrrrrr....I just typed and LOST another giant post with my personals to you all! Well it's partly my fault...I'm trying to watch Oprah with Whitney Houston and message you guys!

A couple of things I'll try and recapture but it's not as cute and fun as what I wrote (boohoo!):

Butts and Guts - to me, that is one of my most favorite perfect workouts. I love the warmup, every exercise and the stretch! There is something about that warmup, that even if I don't feel like working out, it gets me going. I simply LOVE IT!

Cendrine, sounds good about the 28th...I'll let you know what we end up doing before we leave next week. How fun to have your helper with the cards! It sure makes it go fast when you have help and ds probably had fun helping you!

Rachel, I'm glad you had a great day at work! I can tell you're a good support for DH! I'll bet you are a great team! And good job on Imax! You're a very good girl for talking yourself into it!

Kim, I apologize, but I had to laugh when you said it's still minus a million! It was so nice that it warmed up a little here - it's pouring rain right now and I like that better than snow!

I'll talk to you all tomorrow and not watch TV while I'm typing!! I don't know what key I hit to make me lose it all! Ugggghhhh!

I think it is so cool that yall (Jo and Cendrine) might get to meet up again...How crazy that your paths are crossing once again!

I have to be quick so DH and I can get off to work...I meant to ask something the other day but of course I forgot...DH was heating up a hot pocket (I know horrible right) in the microwave and he put it on the time it was supposed to go in and he always leaves it because he lets it cool off...Well I was cooking and we were smelling something burning and I thought something had gotten stuck to the bottom of the pan but to make a long story short...I opened the micro and his hot pocket was smoking and solid black...we have no idea what happened but now my micro smells like burnt crap:p...Any idea how to get that smell out?

OH I for got to, last night DH was making me watch "Stay Hungry"...It has Arnold in it...As he was coaching Jeff Bridges through a work out he told him "he had to feel the burn, that the burn is what makes you grow"! I let that statement push me through Butts and Guts this morning...I think I did better than ever!

Kim-Since we have dropped in temps again I will try to send that 30 degrees we lost up to you and maybe that will get you closer to freezing;)~~~

OK I have to go make my bed and hit the door!

Have a great day!
Rachel

Hey all. Sorry yet AGAIN to pop in and out. Busy busy, as are you all! I'm still here and working hard, just juggling it all and trying to stay on top of it all without forgetting a kid somewhere or something like that! :D

I'm getting psyched to start STS, and am thinking about re-doing 1RMs starting later this week. We'll see what I decided. Sorry, gotta scoot, but I just wanted to let you all know that I've been thinking about you and that everytime I come to the boards to post to you all, I get distracted on the OD and other forums then run out of time....I'm NOT ignoring you! PROMISE!

MISS YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gayle

Hi All! PUB this morning. For some reason it really wiped me out meaning my body is working okay but my brain isn't! I just got off a conference call and I was interchanging words and couldn't think! (Oh maybe it's the menopause!)

Rachel, I have 2 possible solutions for you: cut up a lemon and squeeze it a little and put it in a couple of cups of water and boil for a couple of minutes. The other is to put baking soda in some water and boil. See if one of those helps get rid of the smell. I've done both to get rid of popcorn smell when DH has overdone it! You may have to do it a couple of times depending on how bad the smell is. Another one I've heard but never tried is to put some coffee grounds in a cup or bowl in the microwave and let them just sit in there (no heating). It eventually absorbs the smell. So you just keep putting them in and taking them out depending on your need to use the microwave.

I second the lemon, that was my first thought as well. Hope any or all of them help!

Sorry you lost your post, Jo, that is so frustrating! The gloves sound wonderful!

Not much happening here, I'm gonna head out and brave the lines at the post office this afternoons to send off all the christmas stuff. Jo, ds did like helping. the funny thing was, he had earned himself a couple of consequences and I had no idea what they were going to be until I though of the envelopes. I hadn't planned on him liking it... kind of defeats the purpose...LOL! But it was helpful, so I'm going to let it count.:D

Kim, any change in the temps yet?

Hi Gayle!

Cendrine, I had to say how funny right off, that your ds enjoyed his "consequences"....here we call them punishments but I like calling them consequences way better! It makes so much more sense.

I am going to try the lemon solution tomorrow. I have the day off to get my baking done which I am so thankful for because we have been invited to another Christmas party and DH accepted, which is fine but it is on Saturday and that is when I was going to do the baking. So tomorrow is going to be a long day of cookie making! Maybe it is better that it falls in the middle of the week. I do better on not indulging on the weekdays.

Jo-Did you get DOMS for butts and guts...I am already feeling it! I love that! Thanks for the suggestions on the microwave...The burnt popcorn is the worst but this hot pocket has to be a close second!

Kim-I hope you haven't frozen to death walking back to your car from the hospital! A 2 block walk in that kind of temperature has to murder!

Well I am off to plan my baking schedule for tomorrow...Rythmic Step tomorrow...yea I love that one too!

Have a great night

Rachel
