6 month alumni weekly check in 10/25

OK I survived!!!

First I will tell you about the party...It was great fun. A friend and I sang...I mean yelled karaoke all night and danced to songs and just blew off some steam. I did not know most of the people there so I don't have to worry about making a fool of myself. I think they all thought I was drunk out of my mind but nope...totally sober:D. As for my poor GF, well I think she might be feeling poorly this morning:p. We did not get home or in bed till about 3am and I was up by 7:30...I just can never sleep in. Terrible. So today was thankfully a rest day for me because I would probably not be too coordinated.

Next week we are starting anew job and if it is ready we might be working a lot of hours so I will be in and out again...but I will try to at least pop in and say hello.

As soon as DH gets up...lucky sleeper...I am going to get some pics posted so yall can see us in all our glory!

I want to thank yall for listening and all of your kind words. It is a really complicated situation and I am sure it is only going to get worse from here on out and it is nice to just get it out once in a while instead of just pretending it is not happening.

Cendrine-I do not know how you do it. I mean the struggling with the family issues and then trying to not have the same things repeat in you family. I think this is one of the reasons why I have not had children. I just think I would have a hard time breaking this cycle. I think it is great that you recognize the problems and are trying not to repeat them.
Yes the paternal grand parents are raising the baby right now. They are going to find out next week if they get to continue full custody. They have help because they live in a pretty big house so their daughter and grand daughter live there too. So there is plenty of love in that house for him. I hate to say it, because it is my sisters baby but I hope the Grand parents do get him.
Now I am dying to hear about lunch with JO!:D

Kim-How is your three day weekend? Did you take off after finishing CLX? When are you going to start Insanity?
Thank you too for helping me keep my chin up. There is a mediator involved due to the situation being complicated by my sister and her husbands disabilties...but that is not going very well. You would just have to know my sis and her husband. I wish that in situations like these the state would step in because since they are legally considered their own guardians, they are allowed to make their own decisions. In doing that though, they are potentially ruining so many lives.

OK guys. I do promise you pics just a little later.
I am going to go throw some black beans on. I am going to clean out my fridge. They are going to have everything but the kitchen sink in them. I will let you know what happens...It will be a first.

Rachel

Hi Girls

thanks for starting us, Rachel!
I forgot that today is new check in thread, so I posted about Jo, her friend and my lunch at the old thread.

I'm glad you had such a blast at the party! Can't wait to see pictures. We took the kids to a fall festival last night where they got to do lots of fun games and petting zoo, pony ride, train ride, various jump houses, climbing walls etc, with lots of candy everywhere. DS dressed up as a pirate and dd was a cute little pumpkin. Luckily dd does not like the sour candy, so that reduces her candy stash to half! LOL! Some of it will just disappear as it always does in our house... I'm happy to report that the candy is not posing a temptation for me, all the types I like are not there!

Sounds like everyone has nice times with their lunches and Halloween parties. I did my first Insanity workout today, it was short but intense! Very high intensity, makes you feel sick cardio. :p

Kim, the 'makes you feel sick cardio' was what I was afraid of for Insanity! How long is the workout you did?

Thanks for posting Rachael! What great costumes! What exactly is your DH's costume??

Cendrien, the workout I did today was only about 25 mins. It's the "Fit Test", there is a warm up then 8 pylometric moves, you do as many as you can within 1 minute and record how many you do. Then the cool down. This workouts is done 5 times throughout the 8 weeks to see if you're improving. The first few I felt fine, the last 3 I was getting nauseous feeling.

Ok guys sorry about the super short post but am off to work today. Work out was so so this morning. I think I am still trying to recover from no sleep and then getting up at 4 for the first time in a while...Well I don't think I need to say anymore about that!

Kim-I guess you could call him a cowboy robot. He got some styrofoam blocks and torched them out to get his arms and legs through.

Ok I have to go. Crazy morning here.
Have a great DAY!

Rachel

Hi Guys,

I did Bootcamp Circuit Upper Body from 4 DS today. It was good, but it sure made for some scrambling about to get all the different equipment out for the different rounds. Tomorrow I'm going to do the lower body circuit and then I'll try the LIS and HIS circuits later in the week.

Rachel, you guy's outfits look amazing! I can't imagine how long it took you guys to get that all together! what did everyone else think of your outfits?
Sorry you have trouble catching up with your schedule, I hope you get back into it soon.

Jo, I hope you made it home safely! How was the rest of your visit with Francine?

Kim, I would have had a hard time doing that test too, I think! Is the format 3 cardio days and three weight days? Or how is it set up?

Hi Everyone!
Just wanted to let you know I got back late last night so haven't had a chance to go through the posts! I'll be back to catch up later!

Glad you made it back Jo!

Ok You know sometimes you hurry and hurry and then find out it was all for nothing! Well that was today! I guess I could have finished my workout!

It is just raining and raining here so we could not get any material to the job but at least we got to go look at it. Today was just basically a bunch of driving. I like getting to see the job and meet the people running it. At least you get to see how things are being done and know what to expect. Finally that anticipation of wondering is over.

So this morning was the start of my circuit rotation. I liked the one you posted Jo but I did not have enough of the dvds to not have to sub almost everything. I kind of like sticking close to what she has. But I guess I really do not have enough of the circuit workouts to do that.
Today was Step Jump and pump and I was so tired it was hard to even get going. I made it through the step part but I only got to about the fourth round of the hi/lo and I don't think I had near as much enthusiasm as they did! It is the first time to do it from the beginning and I thought it was really fun but I will have to give it another try. I think it will be worth it!
I think I have step blast on for tomorrow. I need to get some more circuit style workouts I guess. I was waiting for shock cardio to come in but since it will not be the circuit style w/o's there should be no reason to wait! Maybe in a couple of weeks;)

I have to now go back and read the post about lunch so I will be back later!

Rachel

Wow! I missed a lot!

Kim, are you feeling better with the sniffles? Well you must be somewhat better since you started Insanity but it made you feel sick? That's my kinda cardio! Just kidding!

Cendrine, do your write for the Cathe site! You have a great story to tell and I really want you to get TERMINATOR! LOL!

Rachel, Rachel, Rachel! What an ordeal! I'm so sorry to hear what you and your family have been through...and what's coming! My goodness! We all have our own unique situations, don't we? Just different flavors!! Like Cendrine, I got it too! In my family it's alcoholism and I distanced myself from that. I don't know about you guys, but I find myself looking at situations like these and ask: What am I supposed to learn from this (besides the should I be involved or not)? I think you're doing the best with a very challenging situation and I'm sure you fight the "how should I be involved, should I be involved" and feeling guilty because you should or shouldn't do something...just because you're family. But no matter what, we're here for you and will support you in what ever way we can. That's one thing I love about all of you...I can count on you! And, Rachel, we are here for whatever venting you need to do. So blow off steam with us, your friends, but most important use your fitness as a vehicle to help you manage this stress. My fitness has gotten me through divorces, deaths, illness and other numerous challenges in my life. Use it as your meditation to keep control and balance with your emotions. Big humongous HUGS to you!!!! I wish we could all get together and have a big sleepover! LOL! Rachel, you're very brave and courageous and it sounds like you have a wonderful DH to support you! No matter what...things will continually change (thank goodness!) and be positive the outcome will be best for everyone.

Okay, regarding STS Cardio...I'm hoping we can all jump on the STS rotation together in January assuming we have Cardio!

Kim, can't wait to hear how Insanity plays out. Okay...I'm going to do another post so I don't lose this one.

Okay...Cendrine and I had a really fun lunch (my GF was there also!). Cendrine is everything you thought she was...cute, fun, healthy, glowing, a big beautiful smile, and exactly as I imagined her to be! I only wish we could have spent more time together! I told her next time I come down, we should spend $10 or whatever and go workout for a few hours (or get an all-day pass) at 24-hour fitness which is very close to where we met. Cendrine, I forgot to tell you, when I was working down there, my building was next door to the 24-hour fitness there on Sunflower and I went over and worked out there every afternoon. I hope sometime, we will all have an opportunity to be at the same place at the same time! It is so much fun to finally meet someone you feel you already know really well!

The rest of my weekend was really fun! Francine and I walked Balboa Island (she lives across the canal from it) Saturday night and then Sunday morning, we got up and did it again and then went and worked out in the gym at her complex. We ate really healthy - she is just beginning her fitness journey and I got to enjoy the 75 degree weather! I also just veg'd a little and read some more of The Lost Symbol (I'm about 70% complete) and just had some good girl time!

So at her complex, I did chest, tri's and shoulders which would have been my Disc 19 today, so I skipped that workout today and slept in.

Alright...got to go...BBL!

Oh...sorry, one more thing.

On meeting Cendrine: so last week I got the zit on my nose before going to CA. Well thanks to healthy eating and juicing, I got rid of it before I got there! My GF, besides being in real estate, was a hair dresser. So she says...don't bring any hair products (to save on packing) I have anything you need. So first thing, I wake up Saturday morning and my right eye is completely swollen on top and below...I'm like WTH is that? I can't go meet Cendrine with a swollen eye! So put a cold compress on it and was able to get rid of it (same side as where I have the sinus problems and I had an ear problem flying Friday so I think it was all related). So I get rid of the swollen eye. I go shower and am getting ready, and I say (mind you I have very fine hair), okay, I need some mousse. GF says, oh, I don't use that, I don't have any here. I say, uh okay, well I won't have much volume and then I say. Just give me some hair spray. Guess what? She doesn't use that either!!! So it wasn't horrible, my hair looked less stellar than I would have liked but my cardio and juicing glow was so bright...you couldn't see my hair anyway! (I should have worn a hat!) Needless to say, my hair looked nothing like my avatar and more like limp beagle ears hanging around my face! Cendrine did get to see my purple glasses however which were dazzling!

Okay, NOW I must go!

Okay...so one of my employees son's was diagnosed with H1N1 over the weekend, and now all 4 of them have it (ages 6, 4, employee and his wife). Then another employee's husband was diagnosed with it today but he is not severe.

So...in my attempt to keep everyone healthy, I found this recipe for a juice called Sgt Pepper and it is especially for colds/flu and prevention. Here's what I made:

1 large red pepper
1 large yellow pepper
1 large orange pepper
2 clementines (recipe called for one orange but I didn't have one)
threw in a bunch of fresh mint leaves (I think equivalent of about 1 tbsp if I had chopped it)

It made about 18 oz of juice. DH, our friend and all had had it and it was good! DH said he got a boost like he'd just had 4 shots of coffee! I didn't feel that, but I did feel energized! I probably shouldn't have given it to him in the evening!

So there's your juice for the night...hope everyone stays healthy in my house and yours!

Oh, I also wanted to add: there wasn't hardly any pulp from this. You could probably make this in the blender - it was very orange like carrot juice.

Hi Everyone!

I did 4DS bootcamp lower body circuit today. Boy was it hard! I think I'm going to be tired today... But it felt good to work hard!

Ok, Guys, I completely forgot to mention Jo's purple glasses, they look fabulous on her! And by the way, her hair didn't look close to what Jo made it sound...LOL she looked great and you can tell that she is eating super well because she really was radiant! Couldn't tell the swollen eye episode from that morning either. You are a bounce-back-quick kind of girl, Jo! By the way, Jo, that STS shirt looked so great on you I think I'm going to get me one too!

Also, since we are talking H1N1 are any of you getting the shot? One hospital dh has to work at sometimes requires it for all its workers.
My chiropractor recommends Grapefruitseedextract from nutribiotic (it is antifugal, antibiotic, and antiviral) to prevent or treat any flu symptoms. I got the drops a week ago and had dh rinse his sinuses with it when he came down with a sinus infection. He rinsed two days in a row and hasn't had a problem since! He usually can't shake it without antibiotics! You can take the extract a few drops in your drink for prevention or you can take it once you feel symptoms. I don't think I'm going to do the preventative stuff but I like to have it for when I have something and see if I can kill it with this before resorting to drugs.

Did any of you look at the roatrip pics from Daytona? Makes me want to go with all of you! It looks like they had a great time!
Jo, if we end up going to the San Diego one, we will probably get a beach workout too!

Ok, gotta go and clean some house!

Oh, I forgot to tell you, Jo, I did order the calendar yesterday and I'm most definitely getting the terminator with the coupon! LOL!

Cendrine, I'm glad you ordered the calendar! If nothing else but for the discount! LOL! And get an STS shirt too! I do love mine! Thanks for saying it looks good; I do like the way it fits. Also, thanks for the reminder about the grapefruitseed extract...I'm going to go get some! I can't decide about the vaccine. Maybe Kim can chime in with her opinion. I talked to my employee today that is sick and he's not suffering nearly as bad as his kids, and I'm a ton healthier than he so it doesn't seem to be as bad as I envisioned (for us adults anyway). He did say his kids are pulling through but were pretty sick over the weekend. The other employee's husband was uncomfortable but is improving also so that's good news. Anyway, I guess we'll wait and see if they actually get the vaccine here before we all get sick anyway!

I got up and did Step Blast today. And, yes, it was a BLAST today! I had lots and lots of energy! Since it's been getting so cold, I'm sleeping longer and buried in my flannel sheets so am having trouble getting up! But I'm really sleeping good! I do love the fall/winter for getting good night's sleep!

I haven't had a chance to see the pictures yet but will go look later. Yes, wouldn't a beach workout be FUN?!

Okay, BBL later!
