5K Run Last Saturday

Hi Ladies,
(I finally got my computer back at home today after not having it for 10 days!). I just wanted to say that after training for 8 weeks (by myself this year) for the Fifth Third Riverbank 5K Run in Grand Rapids (MI) this past Saturday, I beat my time from last year with a time of 23:46 and actually came in 2nd place in my age group (ages 35-39) of 331 ladies. That really surprised me. I was running a lot stronger than I thought! :)

I only run 8 weeks out of the year and give up Cathe workouts during this training time. I remember starting out 8 weeks ago with a 1 minute walk/1 minute run for 20 minutes!! I did continue to play competitive volleyball, lift weights and country dance weekly during this training period but I have to say "Thank you" to Cathe for putting me in such good shape the rest of the year!!

It's time to "hang up" the running shoes now and go back to my aerobics, start biking and inline skating! Thanks for reading!!!

Patti :)

Patti -

Congratulations - that is awesome! 5ks are so much fun - well, actually fun when they are done, lol. Don't know how far you are from Toledo, but check out some races down there - we are at a lot of them. I've also googled races in Southern MI to see what else is out there. So, are you done with running for the summer? With a time like that and a medal in your hand....why stop? ;)

My thoughts exactly!

I have been running consistently for 2 years now and have yet to come even CLOSE to that kind of time for a 5k!

GOOD JOB!!!! :)

Thank you for your comments!

This was my third year running the 5K and start training 8 weeks prior (March). Once the race is done, I wait till the following March to start training again. (I have foot problems and am going to a podiatrist Friday so I don't think running has actually been helping my foot! lol) But I like the challenge of sticking to a training program to start the "spring season" after a long, long winter!

I sure do miss working out with Cathe; though, during this time!

Congrats on the FAST time and placing in your age group! WTG!! Take care of your foot.
