50 and over week of January 17 check in

i get it. all this time i've been doing it wrong. but, how do you figure out the met value? and i don't have a HRM, so cna't figure the calories either.

This is how SNM explained MET:

Met value is number used to measure the intensity of an exercise or activity. The higher the number the more intense the exercise is. A complete rest is signified by a MET value of 1. Step aerobics on an 8 inch step has a Met value of about 8.5. We use this number in the Workout Manager to determine calories burned.

If you look back at the calendar page I posted - January 27 the icon CrossTrainer does show when added as a workout. Or am I misunderstanding again. Gosh, I am just not good today -;)

Good evening, Y'All.

Linda, I had not read your post until just now. I am so sorry that you are going through this. I perfectly understand, I went through something very much like it when my father passed away. I did not want anything to do with the hospice nurse or any of that. I tend toward depression anyway, and I cried most of the time that I was not around him. Wish there was something I could do for you. I am including your Mom, you and your family in my prayers. God bless you!

Happy Birthday, Cathy! How sweet of your dil! Sounds like you are blessed with a close family. Hope you had a wonderful day.

Well, I missed working out today, but back to it tomorrow.

Everyone have a great evening.

Hi ladies,

{{Linda}} I have no advice. Just do what's best for you. My mil is not hospice but each episode the doctor tells us she won't make it. This has been going on for 3 years. At least 3 of her strokes has caused her to fall.
Two broken ankles and the last time a broken leg. They never even set the leg because they thought the stress of the operation would be too much. She recovered(except for being unable to walk since leg wasn't set.) She should get out of the hospital tomorrow- back to the nursing home. This time she was bleeding internally because of the blood thinner. She had a blood transfusion and her blood can now clot so we will probably have another stroke soon.

Happy Birthday Cathy. I have to change Met value on all Cathe dvds to about half of what she has. According to my GWF I don't burn as much as some people do so I know my met value is less. If I burned as many as she says I would be able to lose weight a lot faster or at least eat more.

Magnolia Glad you had good new about dil.

Jann What is Step Forward?

I did an hour off and on with the Wii , disc 6 and disc 7 without the pushups. Most of the Wii was just stepping off and on while I watched Burn Notice on tv. It's not much of a step wo but it kept me moving for a half hour and I didn't feel guilty about watching tv. It works even when you change channels.

The Wii is nice because it weighs you and automatically records when you wo, how many minutes and how many calories burned. It is very good for balance exercises. It was telling me that my center of balance is a little to the right. Hopefully I can get better posture out of this. I would not have bought the system but I will use the fit plus just to keep track of those minutes between clients when I get a chance to wo.

Good morning.

It's tough being our age. All our parents seem to be or already have been through difficult times in which we have to watch and can do very little to help them. My heart with prayers goes out to all of you.

it's not you , jann. LOL! i'm sure i am not explaining well.
ok, that helps alot, so actually , it is kinda like the rate of perceived exertion chart.
got my new step forward that doesn't have the glitch in it. gonna do it today. than go and take g/kids to park. gonna be 77 here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!

magnolia, GOD has blessed beyond measure!!!! He is soooo good to me. and , i am so undeserving! we had a beautiful day. and it was a beautiful day . almost 80 here. texas is so weird. 2 wks ago it was 14 and now it is in the 70's!

My new Step Forward played fine. :)

I did disc 8 and the last 1/2 of disc 9 today. I am kinda glad I split disc 9 this week -- I would have Never been able to get through the bonus legs as it was my butt was on the floor for the paper plate "t" and the last one legged lift
I liked that I burn so many calories during legs its a real plus on back and triceps days when I hardly burn any. :)

Good afternoon, Y'All.

I had a crazy busy day today. Lots of errands. So I parked in the middle of a large parking lot and walked to each of the stores I needed to visit. I'm worn out again, not enough sleep. But at least I did something.

Well, as Scarlet O'Hara once said: "Tomorrow is another day."

Have a great evening everybody.

Magnolia

I love Gone With the Wind!! I quote Miss Scarlet a lot! :D I hope today is not as crazy for ya!

My hamstrings are so tight today (good ol'disc 9). I am suppose to do MMA Fusion - I may just get on the treadmill and then stretch - :)

BBL - Have a great day.

Hi ladies,

No wo yesterday-only housemax.

Phone was out yesterday so no dsl. They had to run a new line to the house. It's actually perfect timing if it had to break. Next week you would have heard me screaming even with out computer if I didn't have business phone.

BBl with wo.

Joan

good morning!

I used my Saturday morning to do the other half of the weight routine and really enjoyed it! I started with the second half of legs 9 and this time even did the bonus work, drank a protein shake and did disc 8. That was an hour and 35 minutes ago and my polar watch says 693 calories!!!! Yeah!! I am going to tackle part of MMA Fusion but only till I drop.

Jann, try to do some yoga or something- I did hot yoga twice this week and I think it is why I am able to cope with the tightness. I like weights becasue I imagine my muscles building and the fat around them being sucked into the energy it takes to do the weights, but I don't like to let them get too thick and chunky.

Linda, I am so sorry to hear what you are going through. My heart goes out to you. My own parents are still doing well but if I think about that eventual situation, I can not even process the emotion. I hope the exercise helps.

Cathy, send some sunshine this way--we have had a weird winter in Florida.

Hi Magnolia, hope your energy is coming back.

Joan, I think a day without communication would be like a snow day in school!!

Thanks Beth -- I love the way you describe muscle/weights :D very good. I wish I had a place to go for yoga. I had signed up at a local place near me for pilates a while back, they canceled the class because there was not enough interest. :( The little yoga shop we have does not offer much. She is trying though. I am on her list if enough people get interested.

I ended up just stretching today, that really helped. DH and I went out for lunch and did some errands so I got some good walking in.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the kind words....I'll be visiting my Mom tomorrow to see how she is doing.

I did Disc 9 yesterday and even did the bonus leg workouts and my butt is sore. Those paper plate exercises were impossible to do...so I pretended.

I did not do a workout today. Just felt really tired and took a 2 hour nap. I hate this time of year and know without a doubt that I suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder. I feel so sad and irritable from the middle of January through the end of February. I've noticed this pattern ever since I got my masters degree in counseling back in 1994.....my own supervisor at that time suffered from SAD and would go to the bahamas every February to get the much needed sunlight. When Spring comes around, I'm fine and feel totally rejuvenated. Might need to invest in those sun lamps one of these days.

Thank goodness for exercise and those endorphines!

Happy Saturday evening, Y'All!

Those paper plate exercises make me nervous, so I stay in beginner mode for them. I'm always afraid I'll pull a groin muscle!

No time for a workout today, but got in a good walk at the mall with DH. I have an early day tomorrow, so guess I'm going to bed early tonight.

Have a great evening, everyone!
