45 degree lunges -- position of rear leg

I did STS disc 6 today which introduces the 45 degree lunges. How should the rear leg be positioned during the move? Should the knee be pointed straight back (as if you are doing a regular lunge) and the moving leg is stepping out at the 45 degree angle, or should the knee of the rear leg stay in line with the moving leg?

I tried to search for this but couldn't find any posts on the topic.

Thanks for any help!

The step isn't quite as deep as a front lunge, so straightening it isn't quite possible. But it's a very similar move. The back leg will be probably not a 90 degree bend, but not straight either. Sort of in between. Softly bent. Hope that makes sense.
