40's - week of 1/20/13

Hello

Roxie - good news on your house. Do you think you can claim back your tax? That smoothie sounded yummy!

Mary - don't these work problems all seem the same? I guess because we're all humans and not robots!! Don't know about DD and braces. Some of her friends are starting to get them. One girl's got to have an operation on her jaw!

Lisa - OK, I used 25lbs which is the heaviest I've got. I've only ever used 20lbs max before so I was proud of myself! A little bit of soreness today but not overkill (a bit like you and the legs)

It's so cold here. Yesterday, I broke out the mini hot water bottle and stuffed it up my jumper!! I won't have the heating on till DD gets home. A bit more snow today as well, but it looks like it is clearing at last.
Today was CLB plus Core 2. Skipped a different exercise in core 2 this time, there's no way I can do them all. But pushed it up to 3 risers all the way through this time - vvvvv pleased with myself!! I am really liking this new series. Feeling good as well.

Hi everyone! Today did CF, even the core section! Ronne, that's funny! Stuffing your sweater! Cold here too, 7! Sat in the care to wait for bus this morning, felt a little silly, but it was sooooo cold! We were both happy! 25 lbs is impressive! I feel better using a barbell when I start getting heavy like that for chest. I always feel like my arms will just fall off if I drop one, does that make sense? Roxie, great news on the house! I will be thinking good thoughts for you! How's the knee today? Lisa, have you ever been to a live spin class? They look intimidating! Hi to Jody and Murphy! Have to run across town to get a book for DS, no bookstore on this side of town has it because he waited until the last minute to tell us he needed a copy for English class. I told him I could get it on the iPad, but he has to take the actual book in, he has known about this for 3 weeks, told me yesterday! Have a good day and no my question did not get answered! I will just fudge around until someone tells me what to do! Mary

Good Morning,

Today I did Xtrain CB&S tried to write my wts down in the book as I was doing the workout but had a problem finding the exercises in the book. Dh and I are going to start moving furniture.

Mary-the knee is ok not perfect.

Ronne-its cold here today so looking forward to spring.

I got my 2 mile bursts in on the elliptical. Also, forgot to mention, I lost .5 an inch from hips and waist! I've stumbled a little bit on diet last couple of days (not too bad).

Ronne, you and I are about same for bench press. My dumbbells only go to 25 lbs, and like Mary, they can be a little unwieldy. I normally do 20 lbs, so I think it was the 25 lbs that may have did my neck in, so when I do venture back to UB, I'm going to be more sensible! That comes with age I guess! lol Impressive risers for you too you youngster, I'm sticking with 1 riser with no regrets.

Mary, I've never been to a live spin class or live class since my 20s! I have my man now, no need to shop for one, lol! No actually now I just like to do my w/o's in my own little world. Speaking of home workouts, did you all do home workouts in your 20s? If so who? I remember Denise Austin (can't stand her, she's been on the Drs TV show, her voice still irritates me), Kathy Smith (I did her's the most), and of course Jane Fonda. I was a gym rat in my late teens until I chipped a bone in my ankle doing aerobics, lost my man in that since I couldn't do anything for months (ended up in cast). I also had gotten down to 90 lbs if you can believe that....it was all from not eating because I lost my gym, model man. Ever since then, it's always been a battle. Oh, and the question must not have been that important to them if they can't get you an answer!

Roxie, I get lazy writing down my weights, I think, I'll remember I'm 5 lbs less than Cathe, of course I never remember. I know there was one on there she used 12 lbs for that I have to use 10lbs for but I don't know which one because I didn't write it down. Once I get back to UB xtrain w/o's I'm going to have to revalidate what I did write down and make sure to write it down!

Good Evening,

Dh and I took a trailer load of furniture to storage along with some boxes and when we came home there was a sign in our yard and a lock box on the front door so hopefully we can sell quickly. All that work made me tired so I hope I get a good nights sleep.

Hi Ladies

Mary - Well done on CF - that's a toughie! Kids! It's always the same isn't it?!! 'Mum, I've got to go to school dressed as a Victorian schoolgirl' When, love? 'Tomorrow!!'

Roxie - some kind soul has done a spreadsheet for Xtrain so you can fill it in yourself. I can't upload it for you for some reason, but if you have a search around on the forum I'm sure you can find them.

Lisa - I'm finding it really useful making a note of everything. I know what I struggled with and where I can go a bit heavier. The only time I've been a regular gym bunny was my early 20s for a few years. Then nothing for about 12 years till I discovered Karen Voight, etc.

Hi Jody!!

Well, today I did a double: BS B&T plus HS cardio only. I wanted to get both workouts in so I can take a rest at the weekend. It worked out fine. I definitely need my weighted gloves. I did 15lbs on bis and could probably go a bit heavier but not a whole 5 lbs. I could not do those tricep overhead things at the end with the tubing, it's going to take a bit of practise.
40 mins till the heating comes on - I'm hanging in there!

Good Morning,

Today I will do Xtrain legs. I am physically and mentally exhausted and just want some semblence of normal back into my life again. I wasn't religious about working out when I was younger because I had a hard time keeping wt on 83lbs my jr. year of high school but I guess after the girls were born I should have. I had Jane Fonda and Kathy Smith.

Hi girls! Today did disc 5, legs, I added the barre and hip thrusts. Hopefully will be able to walk tomorrow! I wore my weighted vest for the standing portion, gave it a bit more. I just love that workout! Roxie, you and Lisa were tiny girls! I used to go to jazzercise classes when I was younger, then I gave it up for a bit and found Jane Fonda and the Firm. Ronne, how cold is it by you? We warmed up to 17 today! Jody, how's school? Lisa, you at work today? Good job on the inches lost! I wish I would have thought to do that, measure! How's your neck? Hope everyone has a good day! Mary

Yes at work will try phone post. No w/o's yet hope to do bs bi/tri tonight, doing the walks at work totalling about 2 miles. No work but thought I should show my face.

Personals---I can't remember what was talked about. May have to turn this into many posts so I can go look

Mary, you have the cold weather that was here. Nice now so that should be coming your way soon. Neck is good and I'm ready for some UB w/o's.

Ronne, I must admit I don't like many of the tubing exercises, especially that one else. I think those strain my neck somehow. I'm going to replace some with weights where I can. I can never lift for overhead triceps extensions as much as Cathe.

Ronne, are you being cheap like Mary and me with the heat?

Roxie, I was never little like you, just during my phase of losing boy and pain in ankle, so I slept to escape the pain otherwise I was a healthy 135.

Good Evening,

No workout for me the realtor called and they wanted to show the house but DH was making cookies so they are going to show it tomarrow night so spent the evening cleaning and hiding stuff.

Lisa-I wasn't healthy my tonsils were to big so I couldn't hardly swallow had them taken out when I was 16 and it was downhill from there the wt just kept coming I tried to stay in a size 7 but I really got out of control for a while and that is when I found Cathe and kicked it into gear, of course finding out I had high cholesterol helped too.

Did BS Bi/Tri, I feel a little weaker, hopefully neck didn't get strained too much. Also walked at work for about 2 miles (festival walk).

Roxie, I had my tonsils out when I was 21, right after I got married! They never were right After getting mono when I was 19. I think it was marriage that added my weight, then take it off with dvds, then each kid, then take it off with walking. I think I knew I had to do something when walking wasn't working anymore (and I wasn't as active with the kids since they were older). Enter Jari Love, and then found Cathe. House showings are a pain in the butt!

Yes firms too.xtend class and. 4 mi run. SleeeeeepypS I wore long sleeves plus a jacket for the run because it was freezing. 65 degrees yuck

Hi all

Lisa - I'm a complete meanie when it's come to heating. I pile on the layers and won't put the heating when I'm working at home during the day. It has to get really cold. So what sorts of weights are you lifting on B&T?

Mary - I was watching the weather forecast last night and they gave the temp in F for a change and I realised you're much colder than we are here. We're about 15/20 I think in F. And it's forecast to get milder thank goodness.
Impressed with the weighted vest!! Legs as it is, is plenty for me, thank you very much!

Roxie - looks like we're all on Legs this week.

I did Legs as well today (Premix 1 with Rear Delts). Much better than with the barre last week which really finished me off. That final floor section is really tough tho. One more workout tomorrow and I will have finished week 2 of the rotation!! A quiet weekend planned, bit of housework, not much on. Sick of January now! I've been doing quite well on the diet front, cut back on crap and I haven't had a drink for 3 weeks! Doing the rest of January.

Good Morning,

Tonite for me will be the legs I didn't get done last night. I will get Bis and Tris in tomarrow along with whatever is scheduled.

Jody-I would be thrilled with 68 degree weather, its 23 degrees here but I heard its suppose to warm up next week and we might get some much needed rain.

Ronne-congrats on the no alcohol thing I had a drink last night while I was running around cleaning.

Well, I really aggravated my neck with that UB last night (should have gone lighter but then I don't feel like i'm doing enough). As I laid awake in pain last night I tried to figure out what the heck the problem is (DH says I need to quit lifting for UB, uh, not happening). Wondering if it's the humidifier that seems to blow right on my left side that is adding to the problem. Normally I can crack my neck and get it back to right (feels like a pinched nerve, my elbow hurts to even put on the desk at work ---I'm bony there but not that bony! I have to cushion it at work). So, I'm moving the humidifier (even though I moved it last week for a night because I got tired of the cool mist blowing on me, but my sinuses was bad and woke up with a headache). Once I go to UB again, will have to go with low weight, high reps. If I can't get this resolved I may have to resort to a chiropractor but I don't like them. If I could only crack my neck! It's right on the left where the spine enters the scull ... old car accident injury I believe as I have problems with it off on on my whole life. Anyways, I did get in Step Blast and SJP abs, it seemed so hard! These older step workouts are harder for me .... age?

Ronne, I started out at 20lbs like Cathe, was hard, but I remember doing it with that last time, but dropping to 15 was too light, so I wrote down 18...that's one I'll be doing with my pace weights on the end of my dumbbells. I think it's the biceps that are aggravating my neck, who knew (and probably others, but triceps seemed ok). Triceps I used what Cathe did. I'm the same way with the heat, but when my toes are frozen I figure it's time for some heat!

Roxie, I've been wanting some wine, but I'm really sticking to this eating plan I'm doing. I'd much rather splurge on chocolate than wine! I'm looking at making some recipes from a healthy site for little nuggets of goodies. I must remember, even though it's clean, I can still eat too much!

Jody, 65 freezing, lol! We call that perfect here! If I could have 65-75 yr round I'd take it!

Mary, are you able to walk? I couldn't imagine using a weighted vest! That first part of the standing on the legs disc gets me breathing! And the floor work has you about to cry at the end!

Hi everyone! Today did BS CBS, tried to go a bit heavier, tried is the operative word! Ronne, I keep the house chilly also, I just tell them to our on some more clothes! Impressive with no cocktails! I do like my beer on occasion! Roxie, good luck with the showing today! We are supposed to warmup next week also, to the 50's? How do we go from 7 to 50 so quickly? Lisa, that tubing exercise with the band for triceps is hard! I use dumbells, I don't think my tubing is long enough for me, that's my excuse anyway! Jody, 65 sounds lovely! Hi to Murphy if you are lurking! Basketball heavy weekend! Have a good done! Mary

Hi all. Just popping in to say that I have been sick - yes, sick again. WTH! This is the third or fourth week of January and it is the second time I have been sick this year! W T H!? I am feeling better, but I have not done any Cathe and it is beginning to show. My head is still stuffy but not nearly like before, and the mucus has thinned, which is a good thing. The rest of my family has been pretty good, maybe a day/night here or there, but not like me. Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know where I have been. Do some exercises for me. Stay warm - with the windchill factor, we are close to single digits. A few days again it was below zero with the windchill. Next week it is supposed to be in the mid-low 40's- like last week!

Murphy
