40s week 3/29/10

Cathlete
Hi everyone, hope you all had a good weekend. I did CTX UB Saturday...it was tough, my stomach was still hurting on Fri evening....I think I fed it too much before it was ready, plus I think I was a bit dehydrated and just not fueled up. Then Sunday I did B&G leg blast premix + stab ball abs bonus....that's a toughie and was tough but slowly feeling a bit more like my old self. Today I did BM2 UB premix (minus the abs). Short and sweet.

Getting through the times that remind me (and family) of Maddy are tough as her presence is missed. I know it was best for her to go (as was evident as I read the last couple weeks of checkins). Although I KNOW it was best, I still miss her so much. The heart is having a hard time accepting what the brain knows, just like it was hard for the brain to put her to sleep even though my gut knew (again, rereading my posts and hindsight is so obvious). So, today, I've decided I"m going to go buy me some new jeans (my size 6 is a bit snug for wearing 8 hrs a day at work) and some new summery shoes for work too. If I get the shoes I'll have to post a pic later.

Does anyone have any big plans for the coming weekend? DH's sister's family is visiting on Saturday --- haven't seen her in years --- I just hope I can get a smile on my face before then----

Take care all, and have a good monday

Good morning!

Lisa, sounds like you worked hard over the weekend! I worked out with DH, so was a bit limited in my choices. We did Powerstrike 5 on Saturday, and Push/Pull on Sunday. I also put him through the Art of Strength kettlebell tutorial (with the 7-lb. kettlebell that I bought for the kids). He said it was really hard (and this was just the tutorial!)... I don't hold out much hope that he can -- or will -- do an entire workout. :(

Today was Imax2, which I think is probably Cathe's all-around most popular video. I'm glad tomorrow is my last workout day of the week, though. I'm beat!

We have no special plans for the weekend, beyond church and Easter brunch with the kids. But Spring Break is next week, and we're all looking forward to sleeping in a bit more and rushing a bit less.

Last of all, Lisa, I know how hard it is to lose a pet -- especially in the beginning. It really does get easier with time. You'll always think of Maddy, but it won't be as painful as it is now. Hang in there. And enjoy the shopping.

Well, off to work. I am so, so, so late today... maybe I'll get fired.

Hi everyone, I posted in the wrong place! Did circuit blast this am, I was channeling Lisa on Sun. and did B&G too! Did KCM body training on Sat. Lisa, probably soo good to have DH home again. Hope he gave you a huge hug. Have fun shopping today! Kathryn, how nice that you DH will do tapes with you. Mine says they sound like porno's! He does his own thing. Murphy, how are the sit-ups and push-ups coming? Hi to you Ronne! Have a good day. Mary

Kathryn, how nice that you DH will do tapes with you. Mine says they sound like porno's! He does his own thing. Mary

Porno! Tee, hee! :D

It's sometimes nice to work out with DH, but sometimes not because he doesn't like to learn new workouts, would be happy doing the same, darn thing every time , and doesn't want to do anything with choreography or kettlebells. That he does Imax 2 is a miracle -- and I do more cueing and coaching than Cathe does. (I have a hard time believing that this man was ever a ballroom dance instructor! :D He doesn't pick these patterns up very easily!)

Mary, I just had to comment when I saw your post. It made me laugh!

Mary, it was good having DH home (I might say he wore the same peed on pants on the return flight). He holds in his emotions though so I think it's harder for him when I talk about Maddy. I am not one to stuff my emotions down. He does listen to me when I need to talk and is very sympathetic--- he's feeling sad and blue too so I know he knows I'm feeling it at least twice as much as he is. He is such a dear and told me to go buy what I want.

Retail therapy mission completed. Got 2 pair of jeans (size 10! eek....I think it's the cut), 2 pair of shoes(Sketcher sandals), 2 little T-shirts (really cute), 1 purse, and 1 nice hat to wear in the sun (was thinking of my DS's graduation and thought I better start covering my head). DH told me to wear a scarf! Told him I'd look like an OLD LADY. This hat looks pretty nice (as far as hats go), and it's packable for when we finally are able to take some adult vacations. I had a coupon to save 30% so saved $60!

Hey, here's the T's I got. I really like them, DH says I can get more.....so I was refreshing my memory on what other colors they had.

I got this one in the turquiose color

And this one:

I got these initially to go with some knit/sweat pants I have, but I really like them with the jeans I got so plan to wear to work. hmmmm, what other colors should I get?

Lisa, very cute, youthful, summery stuff! Bring on the warmer weather -- I'm sick of being bundled up and freezing!

I'm glad that your shopping trip was so productive, and that you had a discount on everything. It's so nice to get things on sale! Also glad your DH is back. Mine went with me when we put Bonnie, the cat, to sleep. He tried to hold in his emotions, but I heard a sniffle or two. Me, I was sobbing. Bring on the waterworks!

Is it warming up in Colorado? I saw in the news that you had a spring snowstorm (I remembered that you posted it), although it's probably all melted by now.

It's been in the 40s to 50s here, but is supposed to warm up -- a lot -- tomorrow. That's what it's like in Georgia -- wild temperature swings, wild weather swings... wild weather period. I've taken refuge in the basement more than once for tornado alerts.

Well, on to the workout. Today DS and I did Art of Strength Providence. Yes, he actually did a kettlebell workout with me! I give him a lot of points for trying. His hip snap needs work  but at least he did it. I really need my day off tomorrow!

Okay, off to roll DS out of bed -- he has a field trip today. Have a great day to all who follow!

Hi all

Wow, it's been busy round here.

Lisa - glad you got some therapy shopping in. It's nice to have a bit of colour to brighten things up. And don't worry about the sizes, don't you know it's all part of the patriarchal conspiracy to keep the sisters down?!!:p
Hang in there, it's going to be tough for a while.

Kathryn - your description of DH made me a smile. He was a ballroom instructor?! Wow! I'm impressed. Is he still light on his feet? ;)
DD and I watched Zathura on Friday night. We both really enjoyed it, she was squirming all over the place which is always a sign she's involved in a story. Thanks for the recommendation.

Mary - pornos?! well, that certainly gives me a fresh perspective when working out!! :D

We've got no big plans either for Easter. DD breaks up for 2 weeks on Thursday. We'll have the usual egg hunt in the garden on Sunday and we're all going out for the day on Monday. I'm going to work the first week of the holidays while DH is off and then I'm taking DD up to my parents for a few days in the second week.

Managed some good workouts over the last few days. I did MMA Fusion for the second time on Sunday. It was better the second time, I didn't struggle as much. It is the hardest one of the three. Then yesterday I did the CST premix from 4DS and today I did a Kickbox Surge premix with abs.

right, better get on with work!

Hi everyone, today I did KPC, I had cramps last night and this morning, ugh, hopefully after that's gone I'll feel a bit more like my old self.

I never told you all that my sis went with me to the vet that dreadful day. I could have had my DS18 go with me, but I wanted to protect him from that (and I didn't want his last memory of Maddy to be that). My sis was ok, she did impart on me that "I would have put her to sleep a long time ago", and then when I questioned the vet as to what treatment would be, she said " just tell them you want to put her to sleep, why do you need to give them an option to treat". I told her that I wanted to know all my options so that I felt good about my decision. The more I think about it, she's one that seems to give up when the going gets tough, but the more I think of it, I think it's a protective mechanism for her as in "the end is near, so therefore I don't want to get any closer so end it now because I (she) doesn't want to endure any more heartbreak than needed". Oh and, even she shed a tear. I think she cried as much in that vet's office as she did at our parents funerals.

Now onto personals:

Ronne, the jury is still out for me on MMA Fusion, I've only done it once I think, sounds like it grows on you? KPC is finally growing on me :) Remember, I'm the one that doesn't really like kickbox. I also HATE high jogs and low butt kick jogs.....seems unnatural to me (I'm much rather run normall), plus I feel parts of my body jiggling I don't want to jiggle! :)

Kathryn, we have springy weather this week ---might get up to high 70s today (and yes we had a foot of snow just a week ago! - It's basically all gone except the northern shady areas. You description of DH cracks me up. I was doing the stretching on KPC and envisioned porno....especially when you lay on back and bring knees up to chest, and open them while pressing down with elbows (hope that describes the move)....I always hope no one walks by when I'm doing that

Hellos to Mary and Murphy, you girls must be busy.

I'm off to the dermatologist today but before i get there I think I'll do a little bit more retail therapy and pick me up a couple more of the shirts, in fact I'm going to wear my new spring outfit today.

Lisa, MMA Fusion grew on me, but I still have a hard time with the get down/get up sections. Low blood pressure -- I just about pass out. I don't think it's a matter of fitness as much as it is not getting enough blood moving that quickly. But if you don't like kickboxing, you may never love it. I really enjoy kickboxing, and do mostly non-Cathe kickbox videos.

No offense toward you sister, but "I would have put her down a long time ago" is not very helpful! My sister and I have a strained relationship. It's hard to explain why, exactly. Being with her is sometimes like being stung by a jellyfish. You can't see what it is, but all you know is it hurts like heck and you want to get away. It's the little comments, small slights... I just don't understand her. I wish things were different, but we just can't seem to be close. Good thing I'm very close with the other sister. She's easy and fun! :D

Okay, how is this for porno moves: In one of the ab workouts, you lie on you back with your legs in the air (spread -- how lovely), as you reach through with your arms and crunch. Also love that ball-between-the-legs exercise from Push/Pull. I'm really glad I don't work out in public!

And speaking of work.... maybe I should do some. Hope you feel better. I guess the rest of the gang is busy, but "hi" to all who check in later.

Kathryn, I will forever have visions of a jellyfish when I see my sis...somehow it seems so appropriate.....emotionally and physically....nuff said. I have another sister but the problem with her is different.....she knows it all. Geez, thank goodness for friends with the family I have! You all always give me a smile. ;)

I was looking at people's photos of the Road trip, oh, how I wish I could get together with my Cathe friends, it would be a blast! If she's ever in Denver (maybe she is planning it, can't remember.....you know, I'm 40+ that's to be expected), anyway, if she's ever in Denver, all of you are invited to stay with me at my place, as long as one of you will drive to Denver (I'll let you take my car)....I really hate to drive.

Hi girls! You all have been busy today! Haven't done a w/o yet, I need to get busy! Lisa, I will drive you to see Cathe! I would love to meet her one day! I would love to formally meet all of you someday, too! Being an only child, I was always lonely, now I hear all your stories about siblings.... I'm sorry she is not more supportive of you. Cute clothes! I do love to shop, I love to find a good bargain! Kathryn, I know what you mean about the getting up and down in Fusion, sometimes I get a little dizzy, have to wait until it passes, then I am totatlly off beat! Ronne, sounds like you will be busy for the holiday, We have church, brunch with DH's family, then dinner with mine, I better get some good w/o's in this week! Did I miss Murphy? Well, need to get busy, the house is a mess with the kids home, and I have track tonight! Have a good day! Mary

Hi everyone

So Lisa, did you get some more stuff? Hope you had a good shop! And the weather is spring like enough for you to wear it. We've reverted to winter again here! The temperature has plummeted and it's really windy. So miserable. I've been wanting to take DD to the playground after school but the weather just hasn't been good enough.
I think you either love kickboxing or it leaves you cold. At least you've got your lovely cardio coach!
I'm holding out for Cathe doing a European road trip! Can't see that ever happening somehow
How did the dermatologist go?

Kathryn - Did you get your taxes done or is that a dirty word still?
The clocks changed here at the weekend and I'm still trying to readjust. I'm really tired during the day and then wide awake when I go to bed.

Mary - my DD is an only child and wavers between wanting someone to play with and then thinking they'd fall out all the time ;)

Today was Back/Biceps premix from 4DS and then I did no-equipment abs from Ab Circuits.

See you all tomorrow.

Good morning! My day off -- I am soooo sore! And tired, too!

All this talk of siblings reminds me how much I, as the eldest of four, wanted to be an only child. Now I'm glad I'm not. My DD wishes we'd get rid of DS, but I think she'd be lonely without him.

Speaking of Cathe Road Trips: I believe she's planning to come to Atlanta, so you can come here to see her! I will go if she does, because it's probably the only chance I'll have to see her in person. And the weather is finally nice here -- in the 70s today; 80s tomorrow. That's what it's like here: 30 degrees one day, then 80 the next. We seem to skip Spring-like weather and jump right into summer.

Ronne, I think the taxes are done. I thought they were done last week, but the accountant came back with a long list of questions and more info that she needed. I won't know for sure that they're finished until I'm signing the return. And then there's the matter of writing the check to go with it.

Mary, I bought the Easter candy (my kids still get Easter baskets) yesterday. I usually wait until the last minute to avoid temptation. (Ditto for Halloween.) I'm having a hard enough time with my eating as it is. I'm just not motivated to crack down on my diet. But since it will be warm, maybe the sight of myself in shorts will give me the push I need. (If I can fit into them.) It's been a long winter......

It's great hearing from everybody. Have a great day!

Hello all. Today I'm resting. The derm went ok, but boy did my head hurt last night.....they took out both spots with one cut so have about a 2 inch cut all stitched up. Luckily I had some vicodin left over so took one last night since my head was throbbing. Worked great, slept good, but now I have a headache (I think from the weather as we have a storm moving in). I have a dental checkup today....I forgot that I'd have a head wound so later I hope to wash my hair enough to look presentable and then pin my hair back to cover up my gash.

Kathryn, if Cathe ever comes to Atlanta, I'll go with ya if you'll put me up :) That way I'd get to see your awesome home gym in person. :) It got to 80 yesterday, today will be another nice day but then rain --- that's better than snow! And speaking of fitting into your shorts, OMG, I can't! grrrrrrrr DH said "but you workout all the time, how could you have gained weight". I have GOT to crack down on my eating, now to get into the mindset. Thing is I didn't think I was eating THAT bad...sure have been dipping into the chocolate, but it could be worse! I wonder if the stress of Maddy over the last few months had anything to do with it.

Ronne, oooh, if Cathe had a European RT, could we all come stay with you? LOL Speaking of siblings, my boys seem to have a good relationship and I'm hoping when they are both at the same college next year they grow closer (they've missed each other since the oldest went away to college 3 yrs ago). I'm glad I had 2, but 1 would have been fine too. I'm sooooo glad I stopped at 2 though!

Mary, you're kids are on spring break, no wonder you've been busy! Bet you can't wait until they get back to school!

Murphy, you are MIA, how are you doing?

Forgot to report in on my 2nd shopping trip. Bought 5 more T-shirts in varying colors/designs and 2 jean shorts( med denim and dark denim). So saved another $30 or so. So I almost saved $100, but I had to spend $225 to save that. I also wore my new outfit yesterday and I really like the sketcher sandals, nice thing is I can slip them on and off without unbuckling them (i'm known for always slipping off my shoes, I hate my feet being confined....must be all the yrs I grew up in Florida).

Here I am. I have been out of commission with the stomach bug that has been going around. It was crazy. Alert, gross comment coming up - did you know that ginger ale is not only fizzy going down, but it is fizzy coming up too! It got so bad that I stopped dumping the garbage can and just left it there for the next go around. Wow! Okay, enough about that. I did not do anything today or yesterday but I did continue disc whatever with STS on Monday. I am not sure what I am going to do tomorrow. I think I will skip the cardio and just do weights. I may skip the next two cardio days and just go for the weights.

Murphy

Murphy, take it easy! I wonder if we had the same stomach bug. I thought I would die (thankfully nothing came up for me --- but then I downed a lot of Pepto Bismal). Also, I never knew that about ginger ale :)

Murphy

Murphy, I'll give you the advice that my pediatrician's nurse gave me: With stomach bugs, don't bother trying to drink anything until you've not vomited for an hour. And then just sip water, a little at a time, to see if you can keep it down. Also, drink your ginger ale flat, not fizzy (which, as you discovered, can upset your stomach more).

I feel for you -- ugh. I remember being so sick a few years ago that I couldn't even lift my head off the floor. I just had to put a towel under me and deal with it later. I had vomited all night long and by morning, just couldn't move.

I think I didn't go to work that day.

Hang in there, Murphy. Start working out slow because you're likely to be weak.
