Hey girls, getting the week started early. I won't be posting for over a week now because I won't have any internet access. I'm posting from Anchorage while I have some access and while I'm waiting for the transfer to the ship. We've hardly seen anything but already think we may have to come back again some day!
Talked to the hostess today at breakfast. They are very nice here, found out another place that is a must do that isn't on our list this time.....Seward.....Kenei Fjords. She said it's been raining non stop for the last month and this week is supposed to be sunny....maybe we will have good weather.
Landing at the airport was interesting....very short runway, pilot braked real hard and my purse moved about 10 inches forward during the landing. Hostess said that the landings here are hard and strong because of the short runways and that Juneau is worse, it's right between two mountain ranges, one little bit to the side and hello mountain. Also Kodiak Island (where she used to live, south of Anchorage) the only way on is by plane or boat and the plane is scary because you either stop or end up in the mountain or in the water.
She also told us about Beluga Point which we should see on the way to Whittier, if the salmon is in the whales will be feeding......said most times you only see a little of them (like 10-15)....that's a little?????? She said once there was so many there it looked like New York Central City parking lot. Can you imagine?
We had prime rib buffet last night for $18 each. the prime rib wasn't skimpy either! A good 1/2 inch thick, and Don got 2 pieces....Yummiest prime rib I've ever ate! Breakfast I had Eggs Benedict but with Sitka Sound dungeness crab with hollandaise sauce.....VERY sweet and good! Don tried reindeer sausage (poor Prancer and Rudolph), tasted like polska kielbasca, not gamey.
This will probably be last past for a while because I'm not paying for internet access on the boat! I hope to eat a lot more good food!!!! Oh boy will have have lots of exercise to do when I get home!
