Where's all the 40 and Over crowd?

Hello everybody!!!!! I was afraid I'd be late checking in - but let's get this party started!!!:7

I'm 41, just finished P90X but still have alot around the middle I need to gain control of. I also would like to see if I can get rid of some cellulite in the back of my legs.

June 30 I plan on starting Cathe's April 07 Rotation. I really want to keep the definition in my arms and this has a great mixture of cardio and weights!!!

I'm doing really good eating "so far" today but my outlook and attitude is over the roof!!!

What about you all? Have you started the weekend off pretty good!?

Have a great Saturday, I'll check back in later!!!:)

Hi to all

I had been wondering where this check in was.

I enjoy reading the threads relating to the over 40 persons. It seems that all of us have EXACTLY the same issues and concerns. It'll be nice to check in with others who are going through similar things. And hopefully will get ideas onwhat to do to "fix" things.

My problem areas are the butt, hips and thunder thighs! Depresses the hell outta of me and I don't really know what to do about it at this stage. I'm still in the trial and error stage.

Its very hard to stay positive and focussed when you work your butt off exercising (clearly none of us have any issues with actually doing exercise. Well done. :)) for very little (if any) results.

Well, that was a cheerful introduction! LOL ;-)

Hope this check in continues, great idea.

Andrea

Hello Ladies,
I too had to find the forum! did not know this existed!

Thanks for starting the thread,Tina. I went to my golf club gym again today for a 20/20/20 workout. And it was great!

Have you read (in Jillian Michael's book) or heard that we should work out at 85-100% of max heart rate? For at least intervals?

I definately dont get my heart rate that high. Find it tough to get up to 150! Ha! So therefore I am going to take a class 2 times week (around work schedule and my 3 yr old son) and have someone else kick my butt in shape.

Have eaten clean past 2 days. I went to wedding last night and the cake was not the best. Thank God!! so 2 bites .. tiny tiny bites.. was enough.

Tina, I have P90X too. Which ones are you doing?

Hi Andrea! Hi Kathy!

I done the P90X Classic. I believe it is so true that we tend not to lift as heavy as we actually can. I didn't write my weights down I used but when I thought I was going to use a 10lb weight I'd try a 12....never failed....I could do it and then some!!!:D

I think one of my problems is that I get bored with the same workouts, (or working out sometimes) and turn to eating! I done so good with P90X until around week 10...that's when the eating went south again!x(

Yes Andrea - I agree, cellulite pretty much all around the deir-e-aire!!!! And like you said, we work so hard working out with not alot to show in our trouble areas it gets a little discouraging!

We can do this ladies! Once we figure it out...we'll get rich with our new book and diet!!!! :7

Hello Ladies! Glad you're out there. I need help w/ eating. I try to eat well, but can't resist the occasional chips, chocolate, ice cream, etc. Any help for snacks...that's where I fail... Thanks Kay

Hey Kay.

Me too! and it was worse since son was eating gold fish crackers! HA

I cant totally have it out of house due to son and hubby. I find I am NOT hungry during day. But if I do eat breakfast, then i am hungry hungry hungry at 10 am. so must be firing up the ol' metabolism. So once i eat dinner at 7 pm.. same thing happens. I get hungry at 10 pm!!

I find that night time is my bad food time.
I also cant eat a regular size portion of food at one sitting.
My plan? Put the correct amount on my dinner plate and eat what I can/ want.

THEN when the 10 pm munchies kick in.... I still have 1/2 a plate of healthy food to eat!!! will it work?? will let you know!!!

I also plan to start having more fruit around. I dont eat it. Doesnt really thrill me!
Maybe a few blueberries to picky picky at.. or an apple to crunch.
I also think if I eat some GOOD FAT then I am more satisfied.

I was eating cashew peanut butter and that was great. But my tummy does not like nuts so had to stop that. Perhaps some healthy natural peanut butter? on celery? would work for you?

Hi All,

I'm 53 and my biggest problems are my tummy, thighs and upper arms:-( It seems that I'm eating less and exercising more, but the results are a whole lot slower than they were twenty years ago!

Afternoons and evenings I crave chocolate and salties but have been subbing fruit as of late.

Fairly new to Cathe, I'm trying to decide which workouts to include with my five days/week cardio.

Suggestions welcome!

Lucy

Hello everyone....so glad to see a checkin for us over 40s. My biggest prob areas are tummy and upper arms. I've only recently, in the past 6 mths, have gotten into exercising regularly again and have lost 30 lbs and want to lose another 10. The weight loss is slowing down now which is kind of a bummer since I just want it gone already so I can see more muscle.

I've recently added, I repeat added, cardio coach or iTreads to the end of my workouts at least 3 times a week and that started me seeing more results. So I am guessing that maybe more cardio works for me? I'd love to know what other's are doing.

Kathy and Lucy: I hear you!!!! After dinner is the worst time, the munchies hit then. I think it's partly due to boredom-winter is hardest when it gets dark so early. I think changing your eating habits is a life stye change-which I feelis hard for me to do w/ 3 kids and a hubby, and maybe deep down, I know i can't do it totally. I keep fruit, pretzles, granola bars, ect. around but if there is a bag of chips in the house...I'm done, no will power. Kay

Well I bought a heart rate monitor today. So going to see how high I actually get my rate. I know it is not more than 150 beats min. And not sure that is enough to do it.

The Jillian Michaels book talks about 85-100% of maximum. Is that the entire time? or intervals I hope!

Jillian's point is if you work HARDER burn more calories and at the end of the day.. that is what counts. How many in and how many out

Today cardio for 65 mins. I jogged/ speed walked/ flat out sprinted for 2 miles = 25 mins. Then biked for 20 mins with intervals. Then walked another mile really really fast!! HA

have a great sunday.

HI everybody! Went to church this morning and just fixed me and DH spaghetti. I didn't over eat so I'm ok with the carbs!!:9 But this evening is where I need to watch. Because of such a big "lunch" I'll be searching for something w/more protein and not so much of it! OR, maybe a salad! Breakfast today was a slice of 7 Sprouted Grain Bread w/tblsp of almond butter and just a little bit of honey and a peach.

Kathy G - your cardio/intervals looks awesome. In the past this type of workout has worked for me so I plan on doing these too! You done awesome!

Hi Lisa! Welcome aboard!! Losing 30 lbs is a great accomplishment...but don't you get discouraged, those 10lbs will come off. Are you lifting weights in addition to your cardio?

Kay - I don't have children but I can feel your pain about the chips!!! I love Tostito's with ConQueso Dip}( I try not to buy anything like that unless I have done so good that I feel it won't "hurt" to have a little - until I have the entire bag!!!:D

Hi Lucy! Glad to have you with us too! Sounds like we have many late night snackers here! Get one of the Dove bars and have "1" square of chocolate - I think they have dark chocolate if you like that!

Have a great evening ladies!

Hi all. Today (Sunday) is my rest day and boy am I resting up before Butts and Gutts on Monday.

Tina, I sure am lifting weights as well. And I'm patiently waiting for STS. I tried out FitnessFreaks Get ready for Summer rotation and I just didn't lose as much as I had previous months so that is what made me think I needed more cardio because previous months I really, really worked out hard with weights and cardio.

All you late night snakers, I hear ya. I always, or most always, try to just get my mind and body busy with something else and most of the time it helps. I may sew/quilt, surf the internet, read the forums or something to just get my mind off it. My one downfall is chocolate! I was so good just treating myself to 1 or 2 Dove chocolates a day, but now it is turning into more than that. I've got to curtail that little habit before it gets blown out of proportion. There, I've said it, now I have to be good rationing out the Dove's!

Have a great rest of the weekend all, I look forward to checking in and getting to know everyone.

Hi everyone. This is so perfect to have this check in. I am 47 and have gained some weight over the last few months. I have always been a consistent exerciser but due to time constraints have let my exercise slide. I am ready to get started exercising again and lose some of this weight, only now with perimenopause in full stride I anticipate it being harder than it use to be. I think it will be fun to help each other out through these 40 plus challenges. Laura
