4 Day Split - Now that I've done all of it...

LIS - LOVE IT!!! I love the music so very much in this one!!! I caught on to the step no problem in this one (and I typically have two left feet). I ADORE the 'hip hop' move from the warm up and really, really hope Cathe will incorporate it into the cardio segment of a future step workout. I'd say my favorite part of the workout is the very last section where you do all 3 combos back to back with outer thighs around the world in between each combo. Genius! The shoulder workout was really nice. I liked the variety. I felt like every part of the delt was hit, and effectively. Since I do a lot of step, I never, ever get DOMS in my calves. But LIS's calf work gave me DOMS!! I think it's the toughest calf workout to date, even surpassing my old nemesis, GS Legs' calf segment. The abs section was super fun. Love the reverse bicycles and the sit-ups with the dumbbell. I felt well worked and all in about an hour. (Oh, and even though I look like an uber dork while doing the 'Madonna' arm pump thing from combo 3, I freakin' love that move. It made my husband laugh when he saw me doing it, but I didn't care!)

HIS - LOVE IT!!! It took me two tries to catch on to combo three but now that I have it, this workout flies by!! On a cardio only day, I did the Double Cardio premix and had a blast!!!! I love the blasts in this workout, particularly the music that is played during them. It just makes you wanna smile and work harder!! The choreography is tricky enough that it doesn't leave you bored, but it doesn't leave you tripping over the step and/or swearing at the screen. Back/Chest is my favorite weight work of the series. I LOVE the push ups variations and I really enjoyed doing pull overs on an incline. This is a workout to grow with and really push yourself. I may just need to invest in some 35#ers!!!

BC - My favorite!!! This cardio is sooooo fun!!! I had no idea working at that intensity could be so enjoyable!! The equipment changes were actually fun and interesting. Cathe is so freakin' cute during this entire series! My favorite quote is when she says, "Show off!" during the lateral skate interval. I don't even have a favorite interval to list as I enjoyed them all! As for the tris & bis segment, I was very, very pleased. It's tough to put a new twist on moves (especially when you've produced as many workouts as Cathe has), but she managed to do it!!! Love the dips on the high step/stability ball, and I loved the return of crazy 8's!! The band pull downs were crazy! In previewing, I thought they looked kind of easy. Hah!!! My arms were burnin'!!! The time just flew by during this workout.

KB - YEAH!!! I'm so glad Cathe made a kickboxing workout like this. The intensity is just great!!! I adore Cathe's kickboxing and her form gets better and better with each and every offering. Yes, I wish this workout was longer, but I'm glad she paired the shortest cardio segment with legs as my arms were pretty tired after that last amazing punching combo, plus the mix of kicks and leg work had my quads, hip flexors, and hams hurtin' (in a good way). My favorite move from the leg segment was the forward squats. I really felt 'em. I also enjoyed the low pulse lunges with the toe on just the high step topper. The ab work from this workout was fantastic. Love how the knees in and out move goes so perfectly with the music.

All in all, this is a killer series. Cathe is so energetic, perky, and happy. She manages to be no-nonsense and fun at the same time. I LOVE the new music and choreography. I've done the step segments from LIS & HIS each three times and I haven't even had these DVDs for a whole week yet!! The set, crew, lighting, sound - it's all perfect.

Woo hoo!!!
:) :) :)

Thanks for the review. I have finally previewed all the workouts. I'm going to start a 4-Day split rotation on Monday. I am super excited. I'm letting the anticipation build. :p Can't wait!

<<It's tough to put a new twist on moves (especially when you've produced as many workouts as Cathe has), but she managed to do it!!!>>

You got that right!

Great review. Thanks for posting.

I am loving this series too.

I've only done premixes so far:

LIS/HIS double cardio twice
the all upper body premix
and today I did bootcamp cardio followed by the chest, shoulders, tricep premix.

I'll do LIS cardio and legs tomorrow
and kickbox cardio and back and biceps Saturday.

I love the heavy lifting and the not keeping the beat thing did not really bother me.

I love the dancy cardio of HIS/LIS and I loved bootcamp. I have not done the kickbox cardio yet, but I'm sure I'll love that too.

I love the tremendous variety of premixes, and that's probably how I'll use the workouts mostly.

Jillybean--you said it all way better than me:)

The more Cathe gives, the more I want!!! It's an addiction. I'm satisfied and yet never satisfied.

Thanks for the review, Jillybean. I am intrigued by the Madonna arm pump thing ! :7 But I've still got to hang on until after Christmas before ordering these new w/outs ;(

Today I completed BC, it was my last of the four. So all I can say is "Ditto" everything Jillybean said including two tries on combo three in HIS! I am in total agreement with you on these workouts. I'm loving this series! :) :)

Thanks for the great review. I am new to this forum (although I have been doing Cathe for a few years) and I also, thanks to the great info from folks on the Open forum here found Kathey Staehle...are you the same 'bean?
Anyhow, I love 4 day split although I REALLY loved the last DVD's Cathe put out too. My only concern is whether there is enough cardio per day on teh 4 day split to keep me from expanding rapidly...I know over 40 you need lots of weight work and I love it but I feel guilty...like I am not working hard enough with only around 20 min. of cardio. I do run 5.2 miles on day 5 and try to work in another cardio routine on day 6....maybe I am just paranoid!

Holy cow! I am amazed you got the step routines so fast. I've done HIS about 5 times and still have to repeat some of the segments. The same goes for LIS. Kickbox and Bootcamp are not as bad thankfully. Like you, I'm enjoying all the programs. Great review, but I feel so slow in learning new routines!

Jillybean you should try a premix rotation of the series that's what I am doing, since i've done all the workout as is. Seeing awesome results with this series!!!!!

I know the origin of this thread is a little old but I wanted to chime in here and say that the more I do 4DS the more I like them! I wouldn't say it was instant love for me, but they have definitely grown on me. After 2 weeks of 4DS, I rec'd Amy's Challenge series and did about 3 weeks with those, now I'm back to 4DS and these two series really seem to compliment each other well. I feel like I'm working really, really hard yet not wiping myself out. I can see myself using Cath's 4DS and Amy's Challenge series a lot! I have always loved the idea of getting it all done in 4 days with the option for one or two days of other workouts or an extra rest day or two.
