4 Day Split- HELP!!!!

mrsprincess07

Cathlete
I have 4 Day Split, but not enough room in my home to do the Boot Camp Segment...What should I do? Is there another DVD to sub in for this one? Is there a way to modify all the moves to take up much less space, but still get in a great cardio blast?

Help!

I'm also stuck with a small workout space, but I just try to modify as much as possible. For instance, in some of the drills where you have to jump a certain distance, I just try to jump higher instead of farther. I try to concentrate on doing whatever I can to make the drill more intense if I can't cover the ground that Cathe covers.

Hope this helps a bit!:)

OOOh me too. I was worried when I fist pre ordered, and even more worried when I watched the video straight through for the first time. I even just put it aside and didn't bother to do it, but a month ago I took it out and decided to give it a whirl and you know what it can be done. The Boot Camp Segment kicks some major butt, even if you don't have a lot of space (and man I don't think anyone works out in a smaller space than I do--5' x 8' area rug. I just jump higher, and run in place harder. For the drills that require weights as markers I just use really bright post its notes and I jump higher and focus on form, trust me you will work. Most especially since there is very little recovery time between drills. I find that I need to modify even during some of the step DVD's just because of my space limitations but even with a modification you can still kick some butt. Trust me try it. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE 4 day split.

I love the Post-it Note Idea!!! No tripping over weights! Thanks for the idea! I will give it shot. It looks like a great workout so I shall modify all that I need to.

:D

Hi there. I have a lot of Cathe’s tapes and I love them. I am an advanced exerciser, but not an advanced stepper. I am finding the footwork in the 4-day split routines very complicated.

Can anyone recommend a series of Cathe's Step DVDs that would enable me to learn the fancier choreography, particularly such that involves moving around the bench?

Thanks!

Sure!

Low Max

Low Impact Curcuit

Basic Step

Body Max 2- (step only...the curcuits can be tricky!)

I was new to Cathe completely as of late Feb early March 08. I did her Basic Step for 2 weeks and was on to Low Max and LIC. To learn the moves a little easier at first, do the step only premixes. These are ranked as Intermediate DVDs so the moves still have a little break down to them. They also show you how to do the trickier combos and steps in the Advanced DVDs. I found that after doing these two, I may not get every combo on the first shot in all my other DVDs, but i can keep up and master then in 2-3 viewings.

Also preview all the DVDs on her website several times through...that helped me a lot to but a name to the moves. This helps as many of her moves have you turning away from the step. You can also remember somewhat what step comes next...it preps you!

I have never used the props in this bootcamp workout, well except the suicide drills. But with the others I do not feel like I need markers, I just hop and jump to the best of my ability, plus I hate messing around with silly equipment...

Sometimes, if you look at your space differently, you can get more out of it. The diagonal dimensions of a room are larger than the front-to-back or side-to-side dimensions: maybe you can do some of the 'long' drills on the diagonal.

Does the room you workout in link up to another room? Some people don't think about this, but you don't have to stay in the same room for the drills. You might end up running from one corner (diagonal space!) of the living room to one corner of the kitchen.

I agree with ditching the props. I don't use weights as markers: I just use my puzzle mats (that I have set up in a checkerboard pattern, alternating black and a color). Also, for the drill where you run from one side of the room to the other, picking up and putting down weights, you don't need as many weights as Cathe uses: 2 will be enough.

HTH!

I agree with Kathyrn. I sometimes set my room up so I'm able to go out into my foyer (for one of the segments in Cardio Kicks) and I often use the diagnol dimensions of my room as well. Also, I find that you really don't need to use all those weights as markers and can do many of the moves without them. You could sub high knee jogs, skipping in place, and do many of the moves in place, jumping higher, etc.

Good luck!
Angela:)

I have couple also that you might find easier.

Imax 2 is intense but the steps are not that tricky. Cardio and Weights I don't find as complex as some others. LIC is great.

You're right about complex footwork (and you really have to be mindful not to trip going over and back so much) in 4DS step. Cathe didn't cue much or give as much build-up steps in Higher Intensity Step either, so that makes it extra hard to learn. Learning from less complex workouts will help a bit, but you may have to spend 1/2 hour or so outside of your workout to watch what Cathe is doing in HIS or LIS slowly enough to get it to register for your mind and body. That's what I've had to do with the 3rd combo and blast in HIS.

Back to the space issue -- On the moves where you jump to the side 4x, you may just cut that in half to 2x and go back and forth more often. If you have a rebounder, you can do some rebounding through the slides or ups and backs that take a lot of space. Maybe even involve your step for jumps up and down (taking off the ground with both feet) to get yourself to jump higher and work that core.
