2 things I wanted to share

There are 2 things that I did today that I want to share. First, today I did Imax 2 which I haven't done in forever. I did it only in a pair of socks. I have been intriqued by all the posts about barefoot training so I decided to give it a go. My calf muscles seemed to have gotten more of a workout and I found that I was more coordinated barefoot as opposed to sneakers which is weird. I'm definately going to look into the vibram5 shoes.

Second, a while back I had posted a question about how to decrease the noise of my step since I don't want to wake my hubby up with all the pounding. Well it occured to me last night to try placing a beach towel between the topper of the step and the riser. That did the trick! It was super silent (it also helped that i wasn't wearing any sneakers to clank on top). So I wanted to share that with you all in case you were having similar problems.

Good for you! I love my Vibram shoes! It really is better for your entire skeletal system! We're attending a barefoot running clinic in Boston next Saturday! I'm so excited! We're going to have 3 speakers, including Christopher MacDougall, the author of Born to Run, then we head out to Boston Commons where we completely kick off our shoes for some real barefoot running instruction on technique!

You'll love the Vibrams! We're also starting to look into some other brands of minimal running shoes for longer distances!

Congrats too on your innovative solution to your noise reduction issue!

how is the sizing of the vibram five fingers compared to traditional running shoes. I'm normally a size 7. Any tips?

Maybe I should start another thread? Just a couple of questions....

This is an interesting concept to me...I've always had trouble with my feet feeling uncomfortable in shoes while exercising...I'm now wearing an arch support and my feet are so sore after working out that I dread working out.

What about people who have a LOT of weight to lose, do they need the support of a shoe? I pronate terribly and have 50+ lbs to lose. Just curious...

Hi Kariev,

You actually have to measure you feet (both R & L) in inches. They give you a size chart to translate the size of your foot to a Vibram shoe. I bought my first pair on-line, and had to exchange them due to the sizing. I actually calculated the length of my foot incorrectly; it was kind of hard to measure properly on my own. I wound up going to a store that carried the shoes. Even though they were sold out, they measured my foot properly and told me what size to order. I then found another carrier and tried them on in person to determine my appropriate size exchange. I like the 5 fingers. They do take some getting used to, but over time, they are great! I don't use mine as much as I thought I would, but I do like them.

I'm not sure what stores are in your area, but REI & Whole Earth Provision carry them in Texas. I'm sure they have plenty of other distributors now - http://www.vibramfivefingers.com/productsupport/store_locator.cfm. You can also buy them on-line (rei.com or vibramfivefingers.com). If at all possible, I would suggest getting to a store to try on a pair. Even if you find a killer deal on-line, find somewhere to try them on so you order the right size :)

Good luck!

City Sports has them also if you have access to one of those in your area.

Lawnerd - The VFFs will "teach" your feet to work properly. I had issues with plantar fascitis before getting mine. My VFFs completely resolved that and have strengthened my arches and calves. I have a bit of pronation, but you learn to run with a different stride which should also reduce the pronation.

You should check out the website - www.vibramfivefingers.com/

There's a great FAQ there!

I can't seem to find a price for these. Am I missing something?

First go to North America, then go to products, then click footwear which is right under the products button then click womens and select the style. The prices are based on the style selected. Hope this helps.

Oh, thank you. That was very helpful. Not sure why I couldn't find that on my own.:confused:
