2 or 3 days of strength training?

I do the full Muscle Max routine twice a week, and will usually do a toning tape to give me a third day, on the weeks I come up to Glassboro, I use that as my toning day, do you think this is too much on my part, I really don't want to bulk up, but I would like to increase my upper body strength..I'm not overly thrilled with my push-up ability, which I use as a gauge for upper body strength.
