1st Road Trip - Excited but Nervous

This is my first road trip, and I cannot wait. However, I am a little anxious about a couple of things.

Does everyone do all 4 workouts on Saturday? Should I be doing any special training before the trip or just continue doing my Cathe workouts?

Also, when I follow a new step workout, I sometimes have to stop and rewind to get some of the steps. Once I have done the workout a couple of times, I am fine. My concern is that I may be totally lost in a step routine or will most of the steps be similar moves to her videos?

thanks,
Lisa.

Lisa, try not to be nervous. Keep in mind that none of us ever do 4 workouts in a day! (At least I hope not! Ha!) Somehow, the adrenaline in the room pushes you thru it. Cathe always keeps in mind that not every one is the most coordinated stepper, so in the past, she has mainly used familiar moves that most of us know. If it is a new move, she shows us ahead of time. I am coming out of a knee injury so I have not been stepping as much lately & I feel very "rusty" right now. But, I know it will still be fun. No worries if we goof up or even want to sit out a bit and just watch. There is a variety of classes also on Saturday (Step Aerobics, Kickbox, Boot Camp, and Lower Body Blast. ) so you can do some of them lower level if that helps. I can't wait to meet you.

Last year she did throw some new choreography in from the 4DS step routines, and I did have some trouble with it. (And I was in the front row too!), but it was no big deal. I just made sure to stay out of the way of the people near me so I didn't trip them up.

Last years RTers have heard me tell this story a million times, but afterwards I mentioned to Cathe that at home I make good use of the rewind button on my remote to learn new choreography. She offered to help me with the new steps right then and there, and LIKE AN IDIOT I SAID NO!!! (I didn't want to bother her.) Later I was kicking myself...Cathe offered to give me personal "lessons" and I blew it!

I took lots of breaks during the kickboxing, which is not really my thing, and used the time to take pictures. So if you're feeling overwhelmed by the steps, that is always a fun option.

Anyway, all this is to say that you shouldn't worry...just do what you're comfortable with, take breaks as needed, and if Cathe offers to help you, SAY YES!!!

Lisa - There are only 4 classes total, 3 on Saturday and 1 on Sunday. I'm pretty sure that is how it was last year too. I don't think I could handle 4 in one day either!!! ;) Cathe gives us water breaks during the classes too and don't worry about knowing the steps. You can always go to a basic step if you get confused. No one cares. :)

You will have so much fun on the RT! Congrats for getting a spot!
I was always in the back and am very challenged with the step choreography. Then who happened to end up next to me during the step class, but our very own Brenda!! I tried to watch her because I knew she knew the routine. Well, somebody filmed it and you can see me going left when everyone else is moving to the right, etc. But, it was so much fun I really didn't care. There were several that would stop in the middle and take pictures, so you could always do that if you were tired.
I was so excited to be there that I really couldn't sleep much either Fiday or Saturday night, so I was running on pure adrenaline.

Cathe is such a sweetie to offer to give Jodi personal lessons. She is the best!

Don't be nervous, but enjoy it!
Gin:)

Hi Lisa,

It's my first road trip too, and I'm also nervous, but of course very excited, and it sounds like we will soon be at ease. Well, excited still, but maybe not so nervous. Are you going in July or August? I'm going in July -- will arrive Thursday evening.

Firts time for me also. So glad to hear that Cathe does give us water breaks during workouts. I was concerned since I wouldn't have my pause button - LOL. Like everyone else, excited & nervous. Cannot wait!!!

See everyone in July - 10 weeks & counting

As someone who has taken classes with Cathe, I can tell you that you always have your pause button handy, it comes in the form of Cathe herself...she is ALWAYS, and I mean ALWAYS telling us to work at our own pace during her classes and take breaks if needed. There hasn't been a class yet that I've taken where I haven't taken a break, and the next time Cathe gives me grief about it after class will be the first...there's no need to worry at all!

Thanks to all of you who replied! I feel less nervous, but more excited!! The RT cannot come soon enough! I'm glad to hear there will be other 1st timers there too!

I always felt guilty for pausing the DVD and taking a water break (I would mentally scold myself - how silly is that!!!! :p ) because I didn't see Cathe and crew taking water breaks. I am glad to hear there will be plenty of water breaks. - which leads me to more questions.

Should I bring my own water bottle? How many work out outfits should I bring? What else should I bring?

I will definitely bring my camera. I hope I can get my picture taken with Cathe and her crew!

I am so excited to meet all of you. I've never taken any trips by myself without knowing anyone (except for business trips) - so this will be a totally new experience for me.:7

thanks,
Lisa

Lisa,

There will be a packing list of what to bring as time gets closer.

Wouldn't hurt to bring your own water bottle, but if you don't, there'll be plenty around I'm sure

A camera is a requirement, picture taking with Cathe is a huge part of the weekend, I know this just from posts I've read, I've never actually been on a RT run by Cathe, either.

Lisa,
I agree with so many things that you've said! I also am a nervous first-timer, and I also have never taken a trip alone (other than business). There's lots of comfort in knowing others will be there in the same boat! Thank you for asking all these questions. Everyone on here is so supportive and helpful!

There's another thread on number of workout outfits:
http://69.0.137.118/dc/dcboard.php?...topic_id=2724&mesg_id=2724&page=&topic_page=1

It included this link to last year's packing list:

I know the coordinators will continue to provide us with tons of helpful info., but these will give you some answers now.

When are you getting there?
Can't wait to meet you! In the meantime, I will press on with trying to improve at step! LOL! :D

Kristi,

I am arriving on Friday afternoon (coming from Maryland). I'm looking forward to meeting you, it sounds like we have a lot in common.

When are you arriving?

Lisa.

If it's like last year, there will be lots of water available all weekend. If you prefer to drink from your own water bottle, for example if you don't like to use regular bottled water, then bring your own. Otherwise, you don't need to bring any.

I definitely know how you feel, because I went for the first time last year (by myself) and was terrified. It was wonderful, however. You do only 3 workouts on Saturday (the 4th is Sunday morning). The workouts are great and you will have no trouble whatsoever keeping up. Cathe's choreography is simple (but challenging), but if you're familiar with her workouts, you will have no problem. The first workout we did that Saturday morning was a kickbox workout. I was in the back and couldn't hear that well, but it worked out just fine. In the step workout that afternoon, I was able to get in the front with Jodi (see her post). That was really great because we could see Cathe so well and was able to do the routine without messing up TOO much!!!!

Overall -- it's wonderful. There were some exercises I don't do (pushups, tricep dips, etc.) and if those came up I either did something different or took pictures. No one cares -- we're all just there to have a great time.

Hope you're going in July (I'm going at that time), so I would love to meet you!!!

Julie

Hi Lisa,

I, too, am a first time Road Tripper. I am so excited that I got in. I am going in August and I live in PA close to the border of NJ. I have been waiting for an email to give me all the details. When it didn't come, I got concerned because I still haven't booked my hotel. I guess you need to come here for info. I couldn't remember my sign-in here so that was a challenge. lol

I have no idea what to bring, when to come, etc. I don't have a roommate since I'm bravely coming alone. I, too, have traveled alone on business but nothing like this so I am very excited and a bit nervous, not knowing what to expect. I've been stepping and puffing with Cathe for about five years now. I was an avid "Firm Believer" for over 20 years (yes, I'm no puppy, lol) until I discovered Cathe. She is so awesome. So this is such a thrill for me. I am hungry for information now.

Do people come on Friday night? Is it just a stretch class on Friday? And do we really workout on Sunday morning (sweating like pigs) and then have only 20 minutes to leave for breakfast and then home? If so, I guess it's a good thing I'm traveling alone, lol. I really work up a sweat when I work out; it's just my chemistry. Oh well.

If anybody can help me out with some of this, it would be great. Feel free to email me if you like: [email protected].

Thanks all! Can't wait to meet everyone. Guess I'll go try to get a room (or bring a refrigerator box).

:p

Bonnie

Bonnie - Friday night is just a "Meet & Greet". We all get our goodie bags with our badge etc... and have some refreshments etc... There was no "workout" on Friday night last year. The only thing we did was a little "relay" game for some prizes, but nothing that you would get all sweaty from. :) Go to the thread that says something like "Announcing 2 Road Trips" at the top of the Roadtrip subforum. It should have a breakdown of all the activities. You should also have received an e-mail today from Kathy S. If you didn't, I'd check with her ASAP.

Julie,

I will be there in July too! Is it hard to get a space up front in her class? How does it work for selecting a space in the room? 1st come 1st serve? Can you get in the class early and reserver your spot?

Lisa.

Hey, Lisa,
I just sent you a PM -- sorry it took a few days!
