OK, I hope people are still interested in the challenges. Here is the one for tomorrow, TUESDAY, 11/6:

/--------------------------------------------------

Eat your fruits and veggies for the day, and report back what you ate !!

/--------------------------------------------------

I am curious to see how people meet their VEGGIE requirements for the day because I ABSOLUTELY HATE THEM ! ICK !!!!!!!!

Thinks this will be easy since I made two huge trays of eggplant parmesana this weekend and DH and I will never be able to finish them by tomorrow! :)

Yup, this one will be a piece of cake (mmmmmm, cake...). I eat a TON of veggies and fruit. *said while eating an apple and some carrots for a snack* :D

Gross. I hate vegetables. I'd rather have some pumpkin-shaped Peeps...yummmmmmm....

Many of youse guys say to have a piece of fruit if you're craving something sweet. Yeah right. Or I could just have a cookie.... ;)

Needless to say tomorrow's challenge will certainly be a "challenge" for me.

p.s. What exactly should I consider to be "MY fruits and veggies for the day"? Because eating "MY" fruits and veggies would probably equal, um, eating none.....

Well, for me, getting in my veggies will mean having a salad as PART of my lunch, and maybe some broccoli (EEEWWWWWW!) for dinner. That it is for me...because if I can even do that, then a miracle has happened !!!!!!!!

I'll join ya! I'm goin' for salad-type meals and fruit for snacks in between. Just wish me luck at preschool today when some mom brings in something unclean!

Between this daily thing and the 10 pound meltdown challenge, I think I'm finally getting somewhere. I had 5-grain cereal for breakfast today, along with my banana, and I couldn't finish it. I was full! And tell me, why are grains not considered veggies or fruit? They are the reproductive part of a plant, right? Like a cherry, or an apple, or an asparagus stalk. So who gets to decide when a grain is a grain and not a fruit? I'd like to be the one in charge of food categories for a day or two.

Robin, I'm no botanist, but I think grains are considered grains because they are basically just the seeds of the plant, and that's all we eat. With fruits and veggies, we usually don't eat the seeds, or if we do, they are a very small part of what we eat. What we eat is the protective nutrients surrounding the seeds (ie - an apple or tomato), or the leaves of a plant (ie, lettuce or broccoli), or the roots (ie, carrots or potatoes).

So far today, the only fruit/veggie I've had is a banana. But I'm planning on having a huge salad for lunch, and I've got carrots and an orange for snacks. :)

I'm in!

PS thanks for the water challenge. It has renewed my goal to get that aqua in each day!!!

My menu is posted at the 10 pound melt down check in. Plenty of veggies are on it!

<Gross. I hate vegetables.>

This makes me smile because we keep hearing "eat more fruits and vegetables!" and I would, if I liked them. it's nice to hear someone echo the same sentiment.
A nice piece of cake is far better than fruit any day in my book. I comprised and found that plain applesauce, grapes, raisins, and pomegranates are tolerable. I do eat far more vegetables now but it doesn't mean I like them as well as say....a steak and a baked potato. Heck, my lunch today will actually be vegan. A bit of a shocker.....

Some vegetables can be delicious but they had a little extra help and thus are not squeaky clean. I've managed to change my tastes a bit and will actually crave and enjoy salad on occasion but for many of us, the texture or bitter taste of fruit and vegetables(at least to me) can be off putting.

My problem exactly. I can eat mountains of veggies...... as long as they're drowned in blue cheese dressing....not so "clean", huh? ;)

Allison

Well, I think if the dressing makes them palatable you are still getting the nutrients and fiber in your body, much better than hitting Burger King (blech!)

OK I have got to look at a calendar more often because I did this yesterday and I did really well. I'll try to do t again today. Oh and I got my water requirements in too:7 That was a challenge over the weekend:(

So far I've had a banana and an apple. Lunch will be a big salad and a pear with some steamed veggies, afternoon snack is berries and yogurt. Dinner, not sure yet.

This is my food today - and I am not straying from this! (If I do, someone come to my house and practice kickbox moves on me - I'm serious!)

B- Protein Shake, banana, 1 cup strawberries, flax
S- egg whites, chicken, 1 tbsp onion, 1/2 a tomato
L- Greek salad - 3 cups lettuce, 1/2 english cucumber, 1/2 tomato, feta cheese, kalamata olives, red wine vinegar
S- rice and bean burrito
D- whole wheat pizza w/ tomato sauce, tomatoes, basil, and fresh mozzarella, and a salad (mixed greens).
