I have a cheap-o Danskin barbell that holds a max of about 30 pounds, so I've been pondering ordering the Troylite bar and picking up plates when I find them on sale.
I went to Dick's Sporting Goods tonight and found a 100-lb. set (iron plates, not the concrete-filled, rubber-coated ones in the sets I found at Wal-Mart) --- 15 lb bar (which is about 4.5 or 5 feet long) + cuffs, 4 10-lb plates, 6 5-lb plates, and 2 2.5-lb plates. Nothing is coated, just good old fashioned iron
Only $78!!!
If you're really industrious, they also have a 300-lb set that includes a 7-foot, 40-lb bar. It's on sale for $150. The bar is not recommend for a standard weight bench because of its length (much to DH's chagrin).
