10# challenge - RESTART - WEEK of Oct 19

Linda - Regarding Turbo Jam...I usually don't like real cutesy, "rah rah" kind of instructors, so I was skeptical that I'd like Turbo Jam...It really didn't look like anything I'd be interested in... but there's something about Chalene that's likeable and motivating, and she makes the workouts really fun and something I look forward to. Turbo Jam has lots of punches and kickboxing moves, combined with other dancey moves, but there's no real difficult choreography. The music is great and the time flies by. It's not extremely intense, but you do work up a sweat if you put your all into it. It may not be for everyone, but I'm having a blast!

Since I like Chalene in Turbo Jam, now I'm wondering if I'd like CLX... decisions, decisions....:)

Take care!

I have all the turbo jams and the turbo jam ball workouts. I also have all the CLX workouts. Yes, I like Chalene. :)

Her turbo jam weight workouts are not very hard (IMO), but I really like all the Turbo Jam cardio workouts. My favorite is probably Kick, Punch and Jam (or something like that). I also like Fat Blaster. I think her workouts are really good for the core too. I like both Ball workouts.

CLX is very different of course, but Chalene's personality is still there. I think she's motivating but I know some people don't like her. The CLX program by itself I think needs extra cardio but I did it when I was training for a half. The weight work was perfect for me and I liked that she worked legs with each workout, but not so hard that I couldn't run the next day.

I like a lot of different instructors though - so maybe I'm just easy. :)

I'm going to bed and dreaming of a good number on the scale in the morning. Rest day but I think I ate pretty well.

I have the first Turbo Jam (at least I think it was the first). It's 2 DVD's with 5 workouts: Learn and Burn, 20 Minute Workout, Turbo Sculpt, Ab Jam, and Cardio Party. I also got Cardio Party 3.

Thanks, Cindi! I was wondering how the other ones were. I guess I'll have to get those as well one of these days. :)

I was looking at clips of CLX on Youtube. I'm thinking of getting the basic program (to start with, anyway...) and doing it with Shock Cardio when it comes out. I was going to do Shock Cardio with another round of STS, but I think maybe I'll shake things up and try CLX instead. Maybe I'll buy it for myself and have DH give it to me for Christmas!

Hope the scale is nice to everyone in the morning!

Good morning,

Today I did push and pull. Only burned 155 cal., it's less than the WM:confused:

Linda, I am glad I am getting a high cal. on the TC, sure not getting them from the weight lifting!

Melissa, I love the TC, it burns twice as much calories as the TM does. You get 3 workout machine in 1 (Treadmill/stairmaster/elliptical). You burn calories twice as fast as the TM. The best part is low impact. I can’t do any high impact with my back, I have 3 had herniated discs. I highly recommend the TC. I use the one in the gym, once we get back to the states (we are stationed in Germany) I will get one. Love it! BTW, I do CC on the TC;)

Have a great day!

Cindi - Thanks for the info on Turbo Jam!

Denise - Hope the scale is nice to you as well!

Belinda - I know the calorie burns on Weights is frustrating, but just remember you are doing great things for your self!

I had another great day yesterday and went to bed hungry! WooHoo! I am really feeling like this time I can and will lose the weight! I keep telling DH that I am going to fit into my pants, hoping that will help keep me accountable!

I am doing Turbulance Training these days. Then I did 20 minutes of HIIT using Disc 35 Plyo Legs, using 8 rounds of the plyo exercises only with a minute rest. Workout was 55 minutes and I burned 453 calories.

Oh, I also like this quote that I received today:

“A year from now you will wish you had started today.” – Karen Lamb

Denise - that is a really good idea. I hadn't thought of Shock Cardio + CLX. For me STS+Shock Cardio would be too much.

Scale was holding steady today. I'm hoping to run 5 miles today and get some weight work in too.

edited because Linda and I posted at the same time.

Linda - great quote.

My 'issue' with weight training is that everyone says you burn more calories afterwards but how do you measure that so you know the TOTAL caloric effect of a weight workout vs. a cardio workout. For fat loss it is about calories ultimately and it's just really hard to guage the effect of a weight workout on your overall calorie burn during and after the workout. Does anyone use a GoWearFit or BodyBugg - are they pretty accurate? I wonder if they would show an uptick in calorie burn from weight lifting.

My scale held steady today too...but at least it didn't go up! Today was my off day, but I did do yoga in the am, and a bunch of hard core house cleaning with a lot of going up and downstairs, so that had to count for something.

Cindi - I was also wondering about that with the GWF or Bodybug. Hopefully someone who has one will let us know if they notice a spike in calories burned with lifting. Regarding the STS+Shock Cardio...the thought of doing them together was scaring me, because when I did the 6-month STS, I barely had the energy to do any extra cardio at all:) I'm hoping CLX will be a much better fit...

Linda - sounds like you're totally on track! Congrats!

Belinda - The Treadclimber sounds great. I sold my treadmill last year (biggest mistake EVER...) and have been toying with getting an elliptical some day, but maybe I need to check into the TC instead. Sounds like the best of both worlds!

Have a great weekend, everyone!
