1/2 Marathon and STS

Hi All - I've been doing Cathe's workouts for years and finally took the plunge and purchased STS. I haven't been doing much strength training lately as I've just completed my first 2 half marathons in the last year . I have another 1/2 marathon scheduled for the end of June and am just wondering if I'm adding to much to my workouts at once? Is it to much to start back strength training with STS and train for a 1/2 at the same time? BTW - I plan on starting STS next Monday if anyone would like to join me!

I think you'll be fine! Just pace yourself and make sure you get enough rest. I'm going into my 8th week of STS (I'm doing the 6 month rotation so I'm just finishing up Meso 1) and I'm also training for a 50k on April 18th. I've also added the Meso 3 plyo workouts to my rotation so I get two leg workouts a week.

So far my weekly rotation looks something like this - although I do flip days around as needed:
Mon: STS C/S/B + Abs
Tues: STS Meso 3 Plyo + run 2.5 mile sprints
Wed: Run 5-6 miles interval run
Thurs: STS Legs + 3 mile easy run
Fri: STS B/T + Abs
Sat: Rest
Sun: Long run (ranging from 10 miles to 23 miles)

HTH, just listen to your body and pull back when you feel like you might be over training.

A 50k? Amazing! Good luck! Thanks for your reply. I will listen to my body, I'm just a little nervous about STS, at the same time really excited to get going. I think I'll do a couple of Cathe's strength training workouts this week to get prepared. I'll start with MIS today (I'll go light) and see how I feel tomorrow on my 6 mile run.

WOW, Kathy! You go!

I'm also training for a half marathon (May) and a half marathon (September) and then a full marathon (January). I'm including STS in my half marathon training for now, but I will likely go into a more "maintenance mode" before I start training for the full. I am doing the 3 month rotation for now, which will take me into June, then I go on vacation the first week in July. Once I'm home from vacation, I will likely start another 3 month rotation and then stop once my marathon training runs get really long.

I do 2 weekday runs - 45 minutes each (length depends on hills and course), and then a long run on Saturday - anywhere from 6 to 17 miles. I take Friday completely off and then my STS workouts go on the days when I'm not running or off.
