    Very OC - Pregnancy

If you love the idea of having children and being a mother, seriously give thought to adopting. There are so many children who end up in 'the system' because they don't have parents to care for them. A biological child is a fine thing (I have 3) but being a parent is so much more than being...

    MOMS> Your teenager is driving....

I'm w/ you, Bobbi. Got my permit at 16, but didn't get around to taking my road test until I was 18, the summer b4 college. (I hardly drove until I was 18). My husband didn't take his test until after his freshman yr. in college. 16 is young for some, not for others. I'm grateful my son has...

    MOMS> Your teenager is driving....

I feel your pain. My 16 yr. old son was determined to get his permit on his birthday. We got him driving lessons as a birthday gift. It really was a good idea, because he learned the basics w/ a teacher and my husband and I are there for him to practice w/. (Good thing, since I don't think...

    Grrrrr . . . Birth Order Theory

My husband is the eldest of 4 born in 4 yrs. Got his PhD in biophysical chemistry while his siblings got progressively less education, w/ the youngest only 3 semesters of college. All 4 are very bright, hard working and nice people. Sounds exactly like Pinky's brother (black sheep and proud of...

Do you love your job, and what is your purpose?

There's a wonderful book entitled, "Your Money or Your Life" by Joe Dominguez and Vicki Robin I'd encourage you to read. It really helps you re-frame your idea of working for fulfillment vs. money and how much money you really need to be happy. Whether you agree w/ all of it or not, it really...

Quickie! What can I bring my neighbor at the hospital?

I work in OB, hence, my name ;-), and can tell you that, after a c/s, your diet is drastically altered until you recover from the anesthesia. (Spinal, epidural, general, they all slow down your GI tract). So chocolates are something she might not be able to enjoy until it's time for her to go...

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! I'M 50 TODAY :}

When I turned 40 (5 yrs. ago) I felt that I should have been smarter, more settled etc. than I was. Looking ahead to 50, I'll just be amazed to be there. You look great and it really is just a number. Have a wonderful birthday. Valerie :-)

    I've been officially accepted!

Hi Janice If contact w/ people is something you're not wild about, nursing would not be a good move. Not only does a nurse need a solid science background, she needs to have good interpersonal skills. It's different people ever day you're caring for, along with their families and visitors...

    I've been officially accepted!

Congratulations! I'm an RN (23 yrs. and counting) via a BSN program. If time isn't crucial for you to start working and you can afford the extra 1/2 yr. of study, I'd encourage you to go for the BSN now. Many ADN nurses wind up going back to school for their BSN, so if you can get it now and...

    Two MORE Birthdays!!

Hey, thanks everyone! Took a yoga class tonight (with my husband and teen aged son and daughter), then out for a bite. I'm on call for work tomorrow (RN) and if I don't go in, I'll be in preview mode. So far, I like being 45 just fine. Valerie :)

How many cups of coffee do you drink per day??

I admit to having a serious fondness for coffee. I started sneaking sips of my mother's when I was in 8th grade and had a pretty good habit when I graduated high school. Working the night shift so many years as a nurse, I shudder to think how much coffee I guzzled to stay awake. Now, it's 2...

What are the best shoe inserts for hi/lo?

Superfeet inserts have made a world of difference in my ability to run longer than 30 minutes. No matter what shoes I used, or how well I was fitted, right about minute 26 my feet would be killing me. (I run for time, not distance). Now I swear by my superfeet inserts and new balance 833s...

Push Pull - just don't feel satisfied

I really like this work out when I'm short on time. Heavy up and it hits everything in 44 minutes. I don't do it often, but when I do, yowza! That 3lb. wt. under the heel really fries me! Valerie :-)
