    bloated

Trixoo is correct that you need to be alert for other signs of ovarian cancer (go to Ovarian Cancer: MedlinePlus or Ovarian Cancer: Common Questions About Symptoms and Screening). The problem with ovarian cancer is that the symptoms are so vague and often mistaken for many other conditions...

Looking for info on Sanibel Island, FL

Sanibel Island tends to be quiet but it can be a lot of fun for kids. Shelling and bicycling are two activities to maintain their interest. There's an extensive system of off-road bicycle paths on Sanibel Island and in the J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge (J.N. Ding Darling...

    Top 3 LIS picks

Afterburn CardioSupersets Athletic Training As a big fan of step, I like the creativity of Low Impact Challenge but once I learned the routine, I found it does not provide as much of a cardio challenge for me as Afterburn or CardioSupersets. There's a 21-minute bonus step challenge at the...

    Most loved exercise moves

This is a fun thread. I like many that have already been mentioned, but here are five more in no particular order: 1. Sumos (IMAX2 blast 8) 2. Puddle jumpers (on Intensity and CardioSuperSets) 3. Shuffle repeaters 4. Bunny hops (on IMAX as an easier, lower-impact alternative to two-footed...

Who still enjoys "old school" Cathe vids?

I like Step Jam (on the Classics Volume #1 DVD) because it has easy-to-follow step choreography, provides a good, long cardiovascular challenge (one segment is 19 minutes long), and the impact is not too high (no need to ice my knees afterwards).

    My first time with Imax3!!!

Way to go, mini-natty! You were definitely well conditioned if you've been doing the HiiT and Intensity programs. I've found that for me the step segments of IMAX3 are sort of a recovery from the blasts. The impact from some of those blasts is too much for my knees, so I have to make...

IMax original on 8in step today

I find the choreo in IMAX easier than IMAX2 but the intensity almost as high as IMAX2. IMAX2 has more of a fun factor for me due to the music. I modify both to reduce the impact so that I don't need to ice my knees afterwards.

    Robbed and feeling weird

Kathryn, my local water company has a policy to "forgive" an unusually high water bill due to a mechanical problem (e.g., running toilet) or in your case vandalism because these kinds of things can happen. If your bill is just a little higher than normal, you might want to save the opportunity...

    Dance Step

Step Moves has the most complex (and frustratingly difficult) choreography of all of the many (but not all) Cathe step videos that I've tried, including LIC. It does feel good to conquer Step Moves once you learn the steps. The cardiovascular challenge is only intermediate, not advanced IMHO...

buy LowMax even though I have LIS?

Low Max is one of my favorites. I definitely recommend purchasing it, even though you've already got the Low Impact Series. There are a few (but not many) elements in the Low Impact Series that remind me of Low Max but nothing formatted the same, with 7 alternating step intervals followed by...

What were your first workouts ever???

In 1992 or so, I bought the club step, and it came with a video called The Step Challenge featuring gymnast Nadia Comaneci, with step aerobics segments led by Tim Culwell, Gay Gasper, and others. I also bought Kathy Smith's Step Workout at the same time. I liked all of these programs and even...

ricochet's and long hop turns (help please!)

I just checked IMAX2. In interval 9 you do a long hop turn followed by a shuffle down the board. So if you stand toward the right end of the board, you put your right foot on the step and leap toward the left end landing on the floor on your left foot. Then turn, put your left foot on the...

ricochet's and long hop turns (help please!)

You're like me, Mini-natty, in that you're over thinking the moves. They're actually simpler than they seem when you're trying to learn them by watching a fast-moving DVD looking over your shoulder when you're turning (I don't mean to minimize the difficulty you're having, just encouraging you...

    Low Impact Challenge-Learning Curve?

Thanks for posting such a detailed list, Xenializ. I think it could be helpful to others who are still learning the program (I mastered the program only after doing it many times and memorizing the sequence of the steps).

    Low Impact Challenge-Learning Curve?

It seems that there is more than one way to do a 6-count mambo depending on the program. In LICh it involves dipping your foot down on the other side of the step, which is different from previous programs where you stay on the same side of the step the entire time. I discovererd this just...

Low Impact Challenge vs. Athletic Step

I think AS is easier to learn than LIC (although I can't quite get down the pattern in AS involving a shuffle on one end followed by skipping down the step to the other end and another shuffle and skipping back). AS probably provides a greater cardio challenge and calorie burn than LIC (I do...

Never tried an IMAX! Advice please!

I have all three IMAX programs (but not Hardcore Extreme so I can't say how they compare). I like IMAX2 the best largely because of the music. I like the sumos in blast #8 in that program, and I often do them in place of plie jacks and other high-impact moves in other programs because sumos...

    Cathe's 2010 Intensity Workout?

I need to modify certain high-impact moves in Intensity (e.g., I do sumos instead of plie jacks), and I do the low-impact HiiT but not the high-impact HiiT segment. I particularly like the Intensity Max section, which is about 9 minutes long. I often tack it onto the end of other programs...

    Why I don't like the new discs . . .

Perhaps picking the dirt up off of floors could be considered a secondary benefit of the disks (when used with the covers on hardwood or tile, not without the covers on carpets)? So when you do your workout you could view it as housekeeping as well!
